Not gonna lie, I usually try to stay away from buying vinyl from Hot Topic, but I may have to cave and get that. That red looks great. Will look good next to my original pressing of Mechanical Animals.

Antichrist Superstar has received the vinyl repress from Hot Topic once again. It's rumored to be limited to 1500 copies and comes pressed on red wax. I just picked I two copies up and HT is doing a buy one, get one 50% off sale on everything in their store. Go get'em while you still can!

lol, id pick one up too, thats actually pretty nice.

I used to work at one, back in high school. Snagged my Into the Void import single back when that would have been new, straight out of a box of stock for the store. Well, i paid for it of course, but it never hit the shelf, and still to this day is unopended :)

sorry for the hijack, memories though ya kno?

Just a heads up that not EVERY Hot Topic store gets their exclusive titles. It's always a random select few. Especially for such a limited release as this one. Your best bet will be to just buy it on HotTopic.com when they put it on the site.

Did they charge your card yet... or did they put it as a bill when shipped status? It sounds like HT is having cart troubles or something... A couple of people on my other forum said that they ordered one around 7:30 tonight and they got an email a couple hours later saying it wasnt available anymore. I ordered mine right before I posted that link and it checked me out and said everything was good... so far no cancellation email yet. Hopefully it starts working for you.

BTW, I used paypal checkout... not sure if that would have responded different for you. I wouldnt think they would have sold out already.

No... because they suck in general for a LOT of reasons. Also, fuck them for being a megachain that can't update their servers in time to remove sold out merch from their website before you enter in your info.

I can think of a few reasons why I'd rather not have given my credit card and email to Hot Topic.

frankie teardrop
02-22-2013, 03:43 PM
even with an artist of this caliber, 1500 is a lot of copies to move in such a short period of time. and yes, if they let people check all the way out through the process and collected credit card numbers only then to cancel their orders, fuck them indeed for poorly managing their affairs.

however, buying more than one copy of a limited release to gouge it on ebay later is the worst offense, already happening on ebay. there will likely be copies to be found in stores so anyone buying into that ebay hype is also ridiculous.

 They're not pissed it was sold out. They're pissed that they actually placed on order, only to get an e-mail later saying, "You know that thing you ordered? We didn't actually have any."

EXACTLY.

Although, to progress this irritation even further, here's what this guy named Travis who works for Hot Topic distrobution said on the Vinyl Collective forums:

t's not sold out yet. I don't think a single copy has actually been sold on HT.com yet. When it goes up before its supposed to any orders placed get canceled because the systems sees it as having no stock yet. Sorry for the inconvenience, these should be up for real soon. No need to freak out or go to ebay, there's still a ton of these left. If they sell out really quick, we'll get more pressed.

SO it's good that it's NOT sold out, but yeah, there's the official confirmation that Hot Topic released it for purchase without actually physically having any copies, and having all of my information on hand for like 5 hours before saying "oops, sorry". It's just careless and irresponsible. So yes, TIMP, fuck Hot Topic.

I got the version of portrait with the green discs from one of hottopics "reissues", and it reeked of cheapness. it came with an ok tshirt, just the cover of the album. but there wasnt much else, no lyrics or nothing, just the pictures of the band from the booklet, on the back. it was made under license to bravado merchandising, and this was back in 2009. the picture of manson on the record was even from the eat me drink me era (fail!). id post pix, but my cameras flash is messed up and im not taking it outside in this snowcrap thats going on right now. (if i ever get around to it, ill snap some pix of my Mechanical Animals, the one with the trans blue/white discs. i had no idea how limited it was when i bought it new in 98 or 99, so of course i opened it right away. regardless, that was a vinyl done right! alternate tracklisting, creative insert sheets. i just cant bring myself to ever play it, but i bet it sounds optimal!)

anyways, hopefuly this ACSS reissue is manufactured to a higher standard!

I quit buying this guys junk after GAOG, but I would still be decent enough to dish out the cash to see him live when he came around.

Hey sweet, this album has its own thread now.

Antichrist is one of my favorite albums of all time. Id have to say 2nd 3rd, right up there with Psalm 69 and Aenema.

Anyways, Now that were talking bout just this album, id be intrested to see if anybody had the series of pictures from the booklet where Wormboy is coming out of his coccoon and emerging with his wings. Their just so small in the booklet, it would be cool to see em in a larger and more detailed format.

Also, has anybody figured out the lyrics to the Beautiful People demos chorus? Their different, but hard to make out as well.

I just don't think we should be giving this guy anymore of our hard earned money until he gets his shit together.

While I completely agree, and would eagerly discourage anyone from spending money to see this guy live at this point, I also feel the need to say that the Antichrist Superstar vinyl doesn't sound THAT bad. I mean, it's not a good pressing, but it's probably a collector's item right? The CD sounds about a billion times better, but that's not the point I guess.

Also, if the Hot Topic press of his 15 year old album sucks (which it pretty much does), I wouldn't say it's necessarily his fault. It probably sounds better than the original picture disc.

ManBurning

Conan The Barbarian

I bought this vinyl because this album was the album that was in my CD player all the time back in those days.

When our parents were young, they had sabbath and Alice. When we were kids we had Marilyn Manson.

1996-97 was a fun time being 15 when you got nothing but stares and dumbass comments pertaining to Marilyn Manson.

This album will always have a top spot in my heart as one the most important albums. This album gave me the influence to be a musician, even though better bands influenced me to play the guitar.

Fuck hangovers.

That's fucked. Do you have a confirmation email? Or a copy of a bank statement showing their charge?

Sutekh
03-07-2013, 04:20 AM
If you've got the bank statements showing they took the money, and you never signed for a package, then you can get your bank to have a word with them/shake them down (no delivery signature = proof they didn't despatch it, and seeing as they charged you but now deny it, the bank's fraud investigation department can get involved). Call hot topic again and tell them this is what you're going to do, and watch them spring into action

it all comes down to

a) they charged you, and your bank has a record. Their denial is pointless if you have a bank statement
b) there is no record of the product being sent.

but really if they're denying they got an order from you at all, only a) is relevant, as they have effectively admitted they never despatched the product by claiming you never placed an order

if you have an email from one of their twerps saying they never charged you, even better - that is lying or incompetence. If they have any sense they will refund you. Tbh you could probably angle for a bit more if you really emphasise how fucked up this is and how pissed off you are that their staff lied to you

Conan The Barbarian

That confirmation number is what counts. If their fulfillment system is worth anything at all, they will be able to track what happened based on that confirmation number. Something generated it. (I do ecommerce for a living.)

They should be able to tie that confirmation number to an order number, maybe an account number, a payment record, and, had it shipped, a shipment record. If you don't get a record, you absolutely get a refund, or you can tell them you're alerting the attorney general in their jurisdiction about them having fraudulently deducted money from your account.

My "panties aren't in a wad." You're just a fucking dork, and you're the Hot Topic fan of the month.

I'm reasonably certain I've seen some silliness around these boards about about infractions being dished out for insulting other members. Which is of course ridiculous in most cases and I'm not even certain I can remember very many threads where someone here at ets DIDN'T directly insult another member in the course of conversation.

But fair's fair and any policy deserves evenhanded and unbiased application.

I'm sure that means that EVERYONE who's done so has received their infractions, right?

And as I've already stated, these boards are absolutely rife with examples of such infraction-worthy behavior. I don't mean to single out Jinsai here, these two comments just leapt right off the screen as I started catching up with threads tonight.

Just sayin'.

Jinsai
03-08-2013, 01:04 AM
Those comments were banter in response to the guy admittedly trolling people in the thread. Do I even need to point out that the "my panties aren't in a wad" comment was in response to the implication that my panties were, in fact, in a wad. Context matters. Besides, I don't think he lost any sleep over me saying "fuck you for trolling."

Hazekiah
03-08-2013, 01:26 AM
No, you don't need to explain the whole wadded-panties back-and-forth...it's pretty straightforward and I in no way indicated any lack of understanding on that point whatsoever.

The point was that SOME people are receiving infractions for insulting members here and SOME people apparently aren't.

It's either a rule or it isn't and if it's being treated like some kind of popularity contest instead then that's pretty shameful moderating.

Jinsai
03-08-2013, 01:49 AM
I've gotten infractions in the past. I think the moderation on the board is pretty fantastic actually.

I don't even know what the story is here, and I honestly don't really care. Have you been reprimanded or something? Honestly man, I think the mods are trying to keep the board from turning into the meanspirited playground it used to be... and even though I might sometimes miss that, it's probably a good move.

You're still able to post. What's the problem?

EDIT: to be fair here, I only followed back into this thread via the notice that I was being quoted. I may sound like I'm being condescending up there, but I really honestly just have no fucking idea why you're bringing this up or what's going on here.

Yeah, I got an infraction and I wasn't even insulting anyone. I was just asking Hazekiah how he was able to afford taking a month off to travel for all the Manson shows as I wanted to do the same for the upoming NIN tour and it was apparently off topic.

Hazekiah
03-08-2013, 03:22 AM
^ Yeah, that doesn't seem right either.

We're talking about a thread concerning Manson's latest album and tour on a Nine Inch Nails message board but somehow inquiring therein about the mechanics of chasing Manson on tour for the sake of doing the same with NIN is deemed "off topic" and worth an infraction???

WTF.

I may sound like I'm being condescending up there, but I really honestly just have no fucking idea why you're bringing this up or what's going on here.

I'm bringing it up here because you've directly insulted a member twice within this thread. If they're handing out infractions for that now then we all need to get what's coming to us. That seems fair, right?

I mean, I'm quite sure the moderation here DOES seem "pretty fantastic" to those who AREN'T receiving the infractions they deserve.

However, that doesn't mean it actually is.

Also, Antichrist Superstar is an absolutely amazing album.

You're new here? So you're NOT the user formerly known as Hands of Sutekh or whatever from the past few years?

Anyway, no one mentioned anything about the duration of anyone's membership here in any case, so it's beside the point.

Good to hear yet more evidence of shoddy, uneven moderating, though.

Keep 'em coming.

I'm not sure, but it sounds like you guys got reprimanded for drifting. I will not be contributing to this conversation further.

Get over it. This topic should be specifically dedicated to discussing Antichrist Superstar, as opposed to the two other Manson threads dedicated to talking about some other Manson thing. There's a dedicated subforum at the bottom for complaining about moderation etc.

I suppose I'll thank you now as I appreciate how it's simply Marilyn Manson. Aside from that, I supposed that I've actually liked Born Villain a little bit more than both Eat Me, Drink Me and The High End of Low. I'd also hope to eventually see Marilyn Manson live if given the chance, but there aren't any tour dates around my way yet.

I second this. I used to have the Pleisroscene tracks on my computer like waaaay back in 2002-2003, but have since gone through a couple computers since then and the tracks have been lost due to crashing hard-drives. If anyone has these laying around, people let me know! I beleive one of the tracks was called Who Will Save Us now. There was another, but I can't remember the name for the life of me, those were good tracks!

Who was it that was asking how the MA repress sounds with the alt track listing?

I listened to it today and I didn't notice any harsh cuts/endings between songs so maybe this repressing is slightly different than the original blue/white?

I was, in the Vinyl Collectors thread. It was so long ago that I had the original pressing, but I distinctly remember some abrupt endings and transitions to some songs with the re-sequencing of songs, as that was the reason I ended up selling it. If the new version isn't like that, then perhaps I'll open it up to listen, otherwise I'll keep it sealed for collectors value later on.

I'm not too familiar with his non-Manson stuff either. Heard a bit here and there and saw The Pop Culture Suicides once a couple years ago, that's pretty much it for me.

But it just occurred to me that if it's older stuff in those .rars then there might be some material from his old pre-Manson band, L.S.D./Love Sex Death. Some of that was floating around for a while, at least.

You are VERY LUCKY to have seen TPCS live! This is one of the best bands of this generation, and am extremely sad that nothing came of it further than what he has done.
An official release was floating around in limbo for near a decade, and then he just gave up on it. Someone here wrote (in the old Manson thread) he just opened up a Hamburger joint inthe Chicago area instead of persuing the music. That makes me really sad. This stuff was way before it's time. Had very futuristic elements to it, maybe that's why it never caught on? But part of me thinks he just lost interest in music. I would have killed to see them live, or get an official release out of them. But these demos will have to suffice.

The .RARs include as suspected, all his pop culture suicides (22 tracks) and Pleistoscene stuff (10 tracks) amung a folder simply labelled "Zim Zum" with assorted works and demos that could or could be from the other band you named that I have never heard of.

Some of the tracklistings from the "Zim Zum" titles stuff include:
How To Kill A Rockstar
I Stranger
I'm on my way back home
Just A little bit more than I want to kill you
Pupp3t 4U
someone like me
and a few unknown tracks.
And something labelled "fundementally loathsome guitar solo" that sounds identical to the album version on Mechanical Animals, just starts midway through the song where the guitar solo part starts.

Haha, that was actually me.

And his bar & grill was actually out in the 'burbs until it closed down, I'm not sure where they're planning on re-opening or whether or not they already have, for that matter. But it had a stage and hosted concerts from local bands so it's not like he gave up on music completely. Location aside, it was probably actually pretty cool. Never made it there myself but here's the site if you're interested:

http://www.zimzum.net/blackhearts.htm

As for The Pop Culture Suicides live...meh, it was pretty underwhelming. I was as excited to see them as anyone, it just kinda fell flat. But since you brought it back up I went ahead and uploaded my bootleg of it yesterday so you can check it out if you like. I never really bothered to before because the show's not-so-great and because it's not exactly my finest work in terms of filming quality but whatever. With all the pits I take them into I go through camcorders pretty quickly (seven in the past six years, lol) and at the time of the show the one I was using was pretty much on its last legs. So the audio's kinda shoddy since its Mic In port was broken and I had to use the crappy built-ins instead. And for some unknown reason it wasn't recording for the first half of the show even though I thought it was, and I have no idea why it split the recording into separate segments.

There were also issues with the band's associates. Zim kept flipping off some jackass semipro flash photographer who kept butting in front of my camcorder and then NOT taking pix. I was just trying to very discreetly film from an out-of-the-way corner of the venue but someone affiliated with the band kept coming up and telling me to stop because they were confused about which of us was annoying Zim even though it was obviously flash-guy. Someone ELSE from the band kept intervening and telling them it was cool to film but the other one kept being a dick about it so I wasn't sure wtf to do and just kept rolling, lol. I think you can kinda hear some of the debate, actually.

So it is what it is but here you go anyway! Hope you dig it.

A long, long time ago (talking early or mid 90s), I had a very short clip of Manson and Gary Numan performing Down in the Park. Gary Numan With Marilyn Manson
Live at the Palace, Los Angeles - May 19, 1998

MARILYN MANSON JOINS GARY NUMAN ON STAGE IN LOS ANGELES

On his return to Los Angeles for the first time in sixteen years, influential synth-pop icon Gary Numan was joined on stage at the Palace by Marilyn Manson during the performance of Down In The Park. Manson covered the classic Numan tune as a b-side on the band's 1995 EP, Lunchbox.

Also appearing on stage with Numan was long time friend Wayne Hussey of The Mission U.K. Hussey accompanied Numan's band on guitar during the songs, Metal and Dead Heaven. The Palace show was the latest in what has proven to be an almost completely sold-out tour.

"Lucky for us we were recording the show," said Cleopatra Records GM Brian McNelis. In honor of Numan's return to Los Angeles the label had arranged to record the performance. "We really wanted to do it right for Gary," says McNelis. "We had been shooting all of Gary's events in town to edit something of a scrapbook for him. We're absolutely his biggest fans."

Numan's return to Los Angeles during his current tour in support of his new release Exile was met with enthusiasm from fans and the music industry alike. Numan made an on-air guest DJ appearance on KCRW's highly respected morning show Morning Becomes Eclectic with Nic Harcourt. Numan also phoned in an on-air interview with Richard Blade during his Flashback Sunday show on influential commercial alternative station KROQ. Blade had the honor of introducing Numan at his L.A. performance.

Even with his busy schedule, Gary held a signing session at Tower Records on Sunset Blvd the day prior to the show. Over 300 fans attended the brief appearance for Numan to sign memorabilia and releases that have spanned his career.

Cleopatra has already contacted Marilyn Manson's management regarding the recording of the performance of Down In The Park. "Marilyn's manager is willing to explore options on how to possibly release the performance, but right now Manson is completing work on his forthcoming album, and that is their focus." Manson, who took time out from studio chores to attend the performance, is due for a single in July and a full-length new release in August.

Upon returning to England, Numan is slated to meet with Prodigy's Liam Howlett, who contacted Numan the day he was leaving for his American tour. "It's very exciting isn't it," says Numan, who's also been approached to collaborate on a project with Tricky.

In addition to Gary Numan, Cleopatra Records has also completed deals with other influential pop acts such as Bow Wow Wow, Dead Or Alive, The Mission U.K., Gene Loves Jezebel and is currently negotiating with other artists. "These are great artists who have influenced a lot of pop music. We're very excited to be in a position to work with such talented and respected bands."

My mom's pretty much eternally annoyed by my undying and perhaps slightly excessive interest in all things Marilyn Manson, but then she can generally be a pretty combative and bitchy person about most things anyway so I basically brush that off and pay it no mind.

That said, she drove me to and sat next to me for my VERY FIRST Manson show -- even writing it up for the school paper at her college, lol -- waaaay back when Manson was opening for NIN in '94.

Portrait of an american family, indeed!

Then, fifteen years later and by sheer coincidence, she happened to be driving my grandma to a hospital appointment two hours from home at the same time Greyhound was making me late for Mayhem Fest in the same city on the same day so she helped me out with a ride the rest of the way and ended up buying a ticket and tagging along for the show itself.

Yes, my mom wound up going to my first AND my sixtieth Marilyn Manson shows with me!

LOLWUT

And it was fucking goddamned hilarious. She got a pretty good seat and was texting me the whole time I was filming it. I've got 'em all saved on my old phone and they're a goddamned riot.

Something to the effect of:

"Damn, this band is LOUD!"

"Yeah, mom...that's Slayer, ffs."

And after I started getting ready to film and couldn't respond anymore I still got a bunch more like:

"When's Manson finally going to start?"

"Tell them to hurry up! I want to see Twiggy's big dick!"

*one hour later*

"That's it? It's over already?"

Hahaha. Gotta love it.

And one day back in high school, where the principal was constantly out to get me and a complete asshole and my mom knew it, I ended up getting busted by him for about the hundredth time for wearing offensive t-shirts. Most of which were completely banal, of course. He was just a small town, small-minded bastard. She was annoyed by it too and felt like he was even constantly wasting HER time, so when I finally got a suspension and he called her in for a meeting about it she asked me if she could borrow one of my shirts and my mom actually showed up to talk to my principal about my suspension while she herself was wearing my KILL GOD, KILL YOUR MOM AND DAD, KILL YOURSELF t-shirt so she could MAKE him read between the lines, lol.

Which, of course, was the first Manson shirt I ever got. Way back at my first Manson show...with my mom.

Circle of Life, right?

And speaking of that article she wrote...

Dunno, he does go on about it a lot, but then to be fair... I am interested in listening to him dish dirt on manson, and they were mates for a long time, had a bitter falling out, money and careers and lawsuits involved etc. it's not like he's going on and on about someone who nicked his lunch money at school. But yes it does show him up to be very bitter, and he does behave genuinely strangely sometimes (really touchy about people posting videos on his wall)

I finally opened up my new Back In Black pressing of Mechanical Animals. The transitions aren't bad, not what I remember from the original pressing, so maybe I am not remembering it right. On this pressing, if the songs that did transition into another song are just faded out at the end, so it works. I would have been nice for them to create transitions into the tracks for this version of the album, but I guess we're not talking about TR or someone who would pay attention to the finer details. I'm guessing the band wasn't involved with this or were too coked out at the time to care. This pressing isn't as quiet as I'd like, there are definitely pops between songs and some during quiet parts. I did use my Record Washer before playing too, as they seemed dirty from the factory.

Having last seen him during the Rape of the World Tour in 2008, I'll finally be going to Manson in a week when he kicks off his summer tour. I was super enthusiastic when I found out he was playing in my area, however, after watching his dreadful liquored-up 'presentation' at the 2013 Golden God Awards, I'm shuddering in anticipation of a wretched on-stage performance. It's sad to see a once inspiring person lose his dignity due to alcoholism. We'll see in a week if my hypothesis is true!

Manson's new tour starts later today in San Diego, CA. Bumping the thread to remind anyone attending to give a full blown review of the show to see how it has progressed since the Winter leg. Any new songs? New theatrics on stage? Would like to hear a full report from anyone attending the next few days. I'm sure we'll start to see the youtube videos trickle in over the next few days... Curious this see how this leg goes. For some reason, the threads always get exciting to read when a new Manson tour starts up. Looking forward to hearing about how his outing with Cooper is gonna pan out. Will they have any on tour "disputes" like Rob and him had on Twins of Evil? Was that all a publicity stunt? Hmm, only time will tell with how this tour goes!

Yeah, but unlike Rob, Alice Cooper will probably continue to use it to his advantage to make him look like the classier musician. And no, saying "fuck you" is not a publicity stunt. I'm pretty sure Zombie was just irritated with Manson's crazy bullshit, and his follow-up explanation makes perfect sense. If that was a publicity stunt, it was designed with the intention of making Marilyn Manson look like a drug addled brat.

It'd be nice if he pulled it together and kicked ass on this tour, and I want him to, because everyone likes a comeback story, but...

...But I wrote a song last night and finished it that has Prince sort of feel to it, but I did a bunch of other songs that had sort of a Revolting Cocks [feel]. My friend Roger Avary and I have been hanging out a lot and he asked me about my Phantasmagoria script about Lewis Carroll losing his mind. I sort of lost my mind when I was writing it, and that's why the movie had never been made yet. He encouraged me to go in and do it and I did it, and it was very liberating because I afraid and I just kind of put it away. And that let me start putting together and releasing my Holywood novel, and turning it into a mini-series, and getting ready for the Alice Cooper tour...

Those clips definatly seem alot better than some of his performances on his last tour, not bad. But it is the start of the tour after all, he usually starts off pretty good as he's been well rested. He gets pretty fatigued easy as the tour goes on.

Watched a "Dope Show" clip from the same show, and had to turn it off. Singing was awful. Maybe he's just sick of singing certain songs and doesn't try anymore. Scabbed Wings and New Shit haven't been played in a while, so he seems to be doing well with those.

Curious what the bottom means. Coma White / Devour / Man That you Mean (alternate) does he choose between one of the 3 songs as a closing song, or is it a medly of all 3 mixed together kinda like how comab white/black was. If it's alternating them as a closing song, Devour is an odd song to choose to end with. Great opening song, just an odd song to end with. It's odd that the song cuts out abruptly as it is on record. I like the extended version of the song though.

Guess we'll see what happens tonight. I'd still like to see new Born Villain songs premier live, but I guess there is still time for that.

EDIT: Pistol Whipped replaced Little Horn tonight in Tempe, AZ and "Hey, cruel world" was cut altogether, giving the setlist 1 song shorter than San Diego.

Maybe I've just outgrown his music. for me there are very few bands who really look good on you tube quality fan shot videos, with that in mind, he seems "fine" in most of the vids i've seen, imho there is a vast difference between seeing a band play live, and watching an uploaded video.

yes he probably could use a real henry rollins style workout / work ethic prior to going on tour, but for a 40 something rockstar (with his past) he seems to be doing well.

Or, he could simply just start drinking less. Energy-wise, when he's having a good day, he seems fine. The thing that really irks me from the videos and so on, is when he's obviously trashed and slurs the words. If he didn't drink as much, he'd probably do a whole lot better. He wouldn't be the only guy to get winded on stage. And imo, that's the least of his problems.

Where do I begin to describe the horror that unfolded last night?

First and foremost, Manson was so incoherently drunk that his words slurred into meaningless grunts and mumbles...He couldn't even remember his own goddamn lyrics, so he would just scream into the microphone to cover up his mistakes. I mean, the dude just yelled during "Great Big White World", a beautiful song that contains soft melancholy tones. It was like nails on a chalkboard. Additionally, some roadie kept going on stage, directing Manson on what he was to be doing next. It was pathetic.

The technical sequence was mundane and repetitive: spotlight on Manson for each song introduction, flashing red lights that lasted the length of the song, then back to spotlight. I was hoping for a change up of set material during 'Irresponsible Hate Anthem' but the band decided to stick with the old "I'm going to hang all over this podium and scream" thing. It was too rehearsed and soulless to possess any meaning whatsoever.

The icing on the cake for me was during 'The Beautiful People' when Manson broke the drum kit, smashed a guitar, and left the stage. The lights went up about 15 minutes later. Show's over.

No encore.

They only played for one hour. ONE HOUR. Imagine boning down with a person who cums after 2 minutes....My experience with Manson just that; premature and dissatisfying.

To me it seemed as if the band lacked gratitude and appreciation for the audience who spent quality time and money to support them. Granted, I wasn't expecting a personal 'thank you, let me wipe your ass after I've shat on you' sort of thing, but I sure as hell expected a better performance than what I was given. This is only day two of the tour, mind you. If they were weary due to being on the road for months, I could understand the lethargy, but, seriously? Either shape up or retire from the live music scene, because your fans are dropping like flies.

I've lost all respect for the man who, long ago, redefined music lyrically, intellectually, and sincerely. I feel betrayed.

I only like to drink beer because it's white trash and tough having it in your hand, when you want to look masculine around a bunch of other men with beards on a Mayhem type tour.
Wow, you don't get beer at ALL. Beer is delicious if done right, not just something to "make you look like a dude".

A beer bottle is always better, because you can use it in a fight-type situation--which is not really good, because that's what happened with the guy I only got to make a minor acquaintance with, Gucci Mane. He wanted me to do a video for a song, so I almost did get shot at in a drive-by last night when we were recording in this particular studio. I'm here, I made it and I like to live on the edge.
Are you fucking kidding me? Are you 13? This is the equivalent of being in grade 8 and telling someone you have a black belt. "I drink beer from a bottle, because I never know if someone's gonna JUMP me, and I can use it as a weapon!"

That's as far as I got into the article, the man's a complete joke these days.

Went into LA show with low expectations, was better than I thought it was going to be. He always had lung capacity/heart problems (oxygen footage), i think that paired with his blown out voice is what you're seeing. He's not aging particularly gracefully, and it shows in his set. So much of the vocal was on backing tracks. Though for full disclosure I hadn't seen him since 2001. 4th overall Manson show. Alice Cooper was fantastic though. What video where you watching? Is this one from 1997 any better? I swear there's just no pleasing people when it comes to Manson.

Yes, the video from Bizarre is MUCH, MUCH better. Well, the mix is absolute shit, but that's the fault of the festival engineer who was running the desk - that's not Manson's problem. But in that video, he's much more intelligible, seems to have much more control of his tone (versus the words seeming to just kind of stumble out in whatever sort of sound comes first in the newer video), and let's face it...time does take a toll, and his voice was just better suited to the music 15+ years ago than it is now.

I would have loved to have seen him in the mid-late 90s. Sadly, my only show was in 2000, and it was a bit of a let down. I went in expecting this commanding presence that would make you think "damn...that's Marilyn Manson". Instead, it just felt like I was watching some skinny white guy who was much better suited to studios than arenas.

fun fact: Alice Cooper is a born again far-right republican.

Even more fun: a few years ago at another of his shows in Buffalo, an old religious activist was protesting - and put videos of his picketing on Youtube. I commented on one, with a link to an interview with Alice where he very explicitly discusses his religious beliefs.

The video was deleted and reposted with comments disabled.

So my girl May Gunn in the pic above was kind enough to demonstrate the utility of Vine to me the other day after we met dr. pepper (supercool guy, it's always fun to bond in the real world with people over what a shower of cunts and douchebags this place can be, lol) so I took the opportunity to work up some quick samples of my footage while I'm still on the road. Here we see the band and their new keyboardist, a favorite bit of choreography from "Coma White," and a kickass bit from "This is the New Shit." Enjoy! MUCH more to come.

I never knew this song was played live before (only 4 times apparently). I totally forgot this song existed 'til now! I love this song.
Damn, watching this makes me realize how downhill this guy is now. He used to be on the top of his game.

I don't know if that's right. Words are meaningless without context -- they're just vessels. Gay people reclaiming "gay" or "fag", or african americans reclaiming "nigga" doesn't bother me at all, because of the context. Manson's use in "Irresponsible Hate Anthem," e.g., was provocative and shocking and that was sort of the point. I think its distasteful, but it makes a point that relies on the history associated with that word. Compare that to, e.g., the completely (pardon the pun) irresponsible display of the confederate flag by some people, and I find the latter way more offensive, because it wantonly ignores historical context.

Sutekh
07-02-2013, 11:22 AM
Yes exactly - it's about context. It's not a question of only black people being "allowed" to say nigger. When people say that's the case it's an admission they don't understand ( = "why can they say it and not us?" = "I don't understand")

Common courtesy only requires us to observe subtleties and appreciate the context... declaring bullshit on a standard just because it doesn't give you broad, black and white options is daft ("either we can, we can't or MY HEAD EXPLODES FROM THE PLURALITY OF IT ALL"?)

Manson or Patti Smith's use of the word are good examples of how there isn't a ban on the use of the term by white people, and the offensive value is dictated by context. Anyone who can't figure out the difference probably can't be taught

I think we're agreeing on the general principle, so don't take this the wrong way, but I think you're slightly strawman-ing people who see things differently. I understand the logic of the earlier poster that if we're going to have equality, we need to have common values, and words are an expression of those values. I don't think his/head exploded. I just disagree on the best way to do that. Hopefully by each of us talking through our thoughts, we can enhance our understanding -- I certainly don't think I (a white, relatively privileged, relatively straight, male) should have the last say on any of these things, or have all of the answers.

Sutekh
07-02-2013, 12:31 PM
I am making an assumption, but let's be honest it is rather limited and not that tenuous - ultimately the criticism seems to be "this standard is nuanced, and that proves it is flawed" - as if judging things case by case and applying tact and common sense is so much to ask

Wolfkiller

EDIT: Wow didn't see the whole other page where this discussion had already taken off before replying!

I would take that a step further and say that words are meaningless without intention. The "nigga" version of the word is part of popular culture thanks to hip hop and shows like The Boondocks. There is a world of difference between how that is used compared to some rebel flag wearing, vein popping nutjob yelling "GET OFF MY LAWN, NIGGER!"
So back to my point, I think it is silly to imply Dragoro is a mouth breathing ignorant redneck for the simple fact that he/she doesn't understand why it shouldn't be okay for a white person to say nigga with the same intention as some black people do. I think the feigned ignorance of not being able to understand why it shouldn't always be offensive is the worse position to hold. Don't throw away your rationality in the name of being PC.

That being said, obviously not every single black person uses that word or condones ANYONE using it (same goes for homosexuals and the word "fag") so I'm not saying anyone should freely use those words if you are in fact worried about offending others. My girlfriend knows I'm not racist or homophobic, so I could probably get away with telling her "Nigga, you gay!" without offending her. The general public doesn't know me, so I wouldn't go spouting anything like that in public lest I unintentionally offend anyone.

I can't imagine I can post another Manson vid to keep this on topic, so we should probably move this into another thread if you want to continue this discussion before the mods come cracking down!

I find this really hard to justify with your original post that sparked my response. Maybe I am really misunderstanding you.

If my intent in calling something gay is to rely on a stereotype that gay things are bad or otherwise undesirable, I don't think it matters that my girlfriend, etc., knows that I don't "mean it." The effect is the same in that I am perpetuating the stereotype.

My original point still stands... you just misunderstood that I am offended by such words. Words do not offend me, malicious intentions do. My advice was for people who claim to be offended by words without taking into account the context or intention. I'm not perpetuating stereotypes when I tell my girlfriend she is being a total faggot for not making out with her horny female friends, I've completely separated the word from having anything to do with homosexuality being negative. Would anyone outside of my personal life know this without me explaining? Nope! Hence why I don't use the word faggot in public or even on the internet (minus our discussion here, of course).
