i like it other than the percussion in the first 1/3 of the song. it's irritating and distracting, and doesn't fit the aesthetic of the track at all. the percussion that comes in later, however, is great.

If you bought both the CD and the vinyl in the same order, then that's most likely why. You get a digital download with each physical copy, even if they're in the same order.

While I accept the critique and some good points are made, the author appears to have a preconceived idea of what should be on the album and appears disappointed when the album splays in various directions. Also, the apparent TR complex is embedded throughout (e.g., the first 2 paragraphs are dedicated to TR's doings over the past number of years). I would love to see what half these reviews would say given that TR wasn't attached by name. I bet we would see some change, both good and bad.

it seems that grayson was listening to a different album than we were. i couldn't disagree with him more. is it deserving of a 10, maybe not, but IMO, it should be damn close. Comparing it to An Omen EP_ shows little comprehension as to the bigger picture of what Welcome Oblivion_ is. as some were saying on the boards, as stand alone songs, An Omen EP_ probably didn't deliver as maybe HTDA would have hoped, but in the context of Welcome Oblivion_, those same "re-used" songs as he pointed out, work very well and add to the overall feel and them of the world HTDA are painting.

musically, it's the best album I've heard in the past year, sans the new tweaker album and front line assembly's air mech instrumental album. Q's voice, for those who had any doubt, really rises to the occasion on this album and powerfully delivers the message.

and if this guy really new the reason why NIN was announced a few days short of Welcome Oblivion_ being released, he may have a different opinion as to trent using HTDA to relaunch a NIN tour and possible new album.

That's fucking HARSH. And HTDA isn't trip-hop. They don't really fit in with Tricky and Portishead now, do they? All this HTDA animosity is starting to get on my nerves. I've been listening to NIN for 21 years. And i'm not bitching and whining because the man who made all that music that i've so loved for DECADES wanted to, god forbid, do a side project. i find all of this very confusing.

So what's the real story? Is it simply that the venue, timing, or space needed for other bands couldn't accommodate all the light screens and visuals? But then there's an issue at both shows. Some challenge in pulling off both shows, maybe the Sam crew or production team does both bands?

That is why a lot of ecommerce companies have moved to a "All free shipping all the time" model. The more egregious shipping profits are masked in ambiguously higher prices. When it's laid out in front of you like that, it's admittedly off-putting in the way Ticketmaster "convenience fees" are. But as any longtime NIN fan knows, good fulfillment companies are hard to find. If you go with one that has really low shipping, you probably have to pay them higher percentages of sales, and give up control over how your products are merchandised - goodbye custom store, goodbye exclusivity. For better or for worse.

yeah 2017 is gonna turn out to be an incredible year if whats being said actually happens.
also, did not know where to ask/comment on this but in the discography section of nin.com, the first HTDA record shows Rob Sheridan as a member of the band.
now given how hes not involved with NIN for at least the EP (maybe more?), i wonder if he will be part of HTDA for future stuff.

maybe one has nothing to do with the other and i am just reading way too much into Rob not being involved with NIN this time around...there were a few people here who were happy to see someone else working with TR so theres that.

I spotted something interesting on the Bunkerstudios website:

Since then, he indeed was credited in the last NIN EPs. But he also has a HTDA Live Show "mixing" to be determined.

(this also means we could have had a proof of new NIN as soon as July 2016, if any of us had seen this website back then).

And TBD could just mean that the work was done, but there's no set time for it to see the light of day. Trent could have said "we'll get back to this at some point" and just left it at that without giving a yes or no answer on it. Yes, Alessandro has been working with Fendi for a few years. They're an Italian fashion house. The first time was right before COVID hit, and he did what I gather was a DJ set or something based on existing music. For their last two runway shows, he's composed music for it. This last one, Mariqueen contributed some vocals to it, though it's just atmospheric really.
