I've moved the other thread out of the way so we can start with a clean slate.

I found something on The Pirate Bay (http://thepiratebay.se/user/yourfutureenemy/) today.

P.S. If you paypalled me something within the last week or two, and your paypal address is not the email address you regularly check, please email me at leviathant@gmail.com with what your paypal email address is, and what email address I should contact you at, regarding... stuff.

I just want to thank everyone involved in bringing us this release.

In some countries, piratebay is blocked by their isp. For users in the UK, go to https://tpb.pirateparty.org.uk/ and type in 'Nine Inch Nails Uncoiled' in the search box.

Thanks again.

really enjoying these- thanks to everyone for organizing and executing this!

the most interesting part of these mixes is hearing the bits they actually kept for the official releases- little sounds and synth noises that appeared on fixed/further down the spiral, while the rest of the mix is vastly different. kind of blowing my mind a little bit!

Now that ive had a chance to listen to these, it gives me goosebumps hearing these alternate takes on remixes ive been listening to for 15+ years.

Soooo... about those .txt documents....

On the old phantom songs list, Im assuming this Eraser (a version with worms), is the Eraser (Reduction) mix? The Reduction mix is really cool, by the way.

Whats this about a 3rd Oglive mix of Reptile? Is that true its a hidden track on the JPN FDTS?

I wonder whats the story behind The Downward Spiral (fullblown) mix. Was it supposed to be some longer edit? Or maybe one with the alleged "Just Do It" track worked into it.

As an older fan, its been ages since ive heard the mention of "Lovegun," that i compleatly forgot about it. That brings back some "back in the day" memories, like of dial up internet, Doom II, and old school 486 processors :)

a few things:
1. want to pile my gratitude on for all involved with bringing these to the community.
2. I feel like this info may have been in the previous thread, but I wasn't clear on it. are these as they were when originally created, or were they somehow manipulated/edited/reworked by danny hyde or someone else recently?
3. do we think tr has listened/is listening to these? wonder if he's as excited about them as we are, or maybe he's indifferent and doesn't even feel like listening since he's wrapped up in new projects.

haha, maan, I haven't had a stupid grin on my face like this for something NIN since YZ. Much less, just remixes of songs I've heard hundreds of times going 8+ years back. This is honestly the best version of Closer I've heard (including the original :x).

A million thanks to everyone who was involved in putting this together. MAD, that is some siiick artwork, thanks.

@fortheloveofgod, i'd have to disagree with you that they are better than anything on Fixed or FDTS, but I would say that they would fit real nicely as additional tracks on those releases.

nothing beats ruiner (version) on FDTS v2 and self-destruction (final) for me.

So whats the backstory of this? I mean, how legit is it?

I can tell you that the back story %100 lines up. I was pretty active on alt.music.nin at the time but my real love was for coil so as the years went by and I found out more and more tidbits about the band or stories swapped at nincons with friends this story often came up. I
I haven't thought about it in years so it is pretty cool to see it pop up. To all you people that worked on getting this together thanks, its a great listen to!

The NIN FAQ is like the great-great-great grandfather of the NIN Hotline.

O.K. Well we (Sean and Chris) came to the conclusion that it would be much better to stay independent (this way we don't have to take shit from anyone <grin>). So anyway, nothing records, formula public relations and the band members do contribute information to the faq, but it is not an official product of nine inch nails. It is, as Sean put it, 'the official source of un-official information about nine inch nails' and that is just how it will stay. The authors are in no way affiliated with Nothing records other than we are always bugging them for information <bigger grin>. What will the future hold? We have no idea.

Paragraphs like this obviously took pretty deep rooting in my 16 year old head, and the spirit of NIN fans on Usenet aggregating information is 100% responsible for the OCD I developed that resulted in the release of these remixes we're all listening to this week.

Thank you thank you thank you thank you.

Back in the napster / pre-fragile days when I was absolutely ravenous for more nin material, I'd spend hours going over discographies and search results and soundtrack lists to find every last NIN song and remix that existed. Back in the day it wasn't so easy to keep track of an artist's releases there were not comprehensive lists of everything and search results were not all that reliable. But I did eventually realize that I had hit the wall regarding available material, and that I'd have to wait for a new release. But that did not stop me from dreaming. Literally dreaming, more than once, that I had found some unreleased remix or b-sides album from around the fixed/tds era. I'd wake up half-confused 'Hey, I should put on that new NIN I found . . . fuck . . . that was a dream.'

So I had to wait around 15 years, but it looks like it arrived. And I'll be fucked if the artwork isn't in the ballpark of what I had dreamed of.

Some days are just fucking good days.

Thank you a thousand times.

edit: downloaded and about to listen. I have a ton of endorphins rushing through my body right now.

do you mean "compatible with iTunes" because no FLAC is going to be compatible with iTunes. however, there are plenty of programs that will allow you to convert FLACs to WAVs or any other kind of file you desire, for free.

So the more I listen to these songs the more I think about how they are the initial mixes of the remixes on Fixed that Peter and Jon did. It sounds like they were playing with different versions of the songs and figuring out what works with what parts and what parts don’t. I picture Peter and Jon sitting back while listening to these mixes, and playing them for friends, and figuring out what works and what doesn’t work. I have strong feelings for Fixed and I absolutely love these songs. It’s like being there when they were coming up with the mixes that they would ultimately release.

That said I don’t think these were ever supposed to be considered songs, like when you see the mix titles being “Full mix”, “Full mix+” and “more perc” you get the feeling that these songs were put down in order to listen to, and get a feel for, how parts of the songs sounded with different mixes. These are the demos for Fixed and Further Down the Spiral and they are awesome.

Think my worst nightmare is to take acid and to listen to that remix of Eraser. Its really terrifying, brilliant but fucking mind bending, Coil were the only group who made me fear for my sanity, they were beautiful but could really scare the living shit out of me, really powerful sounds that totally warp you. Try listening to their music in a dark room, urgh!!! Its serious asylum music. These remixes just highlight how dark and powerful what they did was, Can hear a sample of a female screaming, this sample was later used again by Throbbing Gristle on their 2004 tour with the track Persuasion.

These are all brilliant, i prefer the ending to Closer on this new remix, it all sounds incredible for 1994 its great to hear new recordings from Johnn and Sleazy. Always loved it when Trent being in his position would champion them.

I haven't heard of this movie but I am gonna have to hunt it down. Are you saying that there are Coil remixes of Broken (the mixes on this Recoiled torrent) that were in this movie? If so that would be really interesting in that according to IMDB this movie came out in 1993.

So did this movie come out later, were these mixes made earlier or did something else happen to make your statement correct. I would be interested in learning the truth in any case.

These are early mixes of songs on Fixed and FDTS done by Coil. Based on what I know about Coil and what they stood for, they would have no problems with a bunch of rabid fans finding this and posting it. Fixed is what made me find Coil and when I found them I fell for them hard. I know there are many others out there like me who became devoted fans of Coil that were introduced to them by Fixed and nothing records. As far as the NIN legal side of it I'll say that I could not imagine them being upset about this at all. "Oh no, the world is reminded about how great we are".

Oh I doubt it, I was just a kid back then and the whole thing was isolated from the internet at large, I just updated things manually, and the only users were other kids from my high school.

you should be able to get ffmpeg and a GUI for free on osx. You can use ffmpeg to convert FLAC to mp3 or WAV

Sorry - wasn't clear.

I'm after a FLAC version to download that I can open on my Mac. The torrent files (.exe) on Pirate Bay don't work with OS X, so I'm looking for a FLAC download (torrent or otherwise)for my Mac I can then convert to ALAC (I use XLD to convert).
lol torrent fail. you are clicking on the ads and downloading virooses

ok so download, install, and open uTorrent for mac: http://www.utorrent.com/downloads/mac
THEN, go to http://thepiratebay.se/user/yourfutureenemy/ and click on the torrent you want, then click on the "get this torrent" link that looks like this: http://dc.moose.cc/temp/gettorrent-20121106-120535.jpg

I'll be happy to give you a direct download link to a zip of all the goodness if you PM me and request one. This goes for everyone reading this. DON'T download it from NewAlbumReleases or those other places (they stripped out a bunch of the content :( )

This is really cool. I'm not usually into remixes all that much but I figured based on the great work Coil did on FDTS that this would be worth checking out. The mix of Eraser on this is even more chilling than what appeared on FDTS. I love all this great stuff surfacing from the TDS era.

this makes me wonder if anyone has access to whatever Peter was working on for Trent which was mentioned in an interview on the Quietus back in 2010 link (http://thequietus.com/articles/04504-sleazy-interview-coil-throbbing-gristle)

I see Trent Reznor has borrowed the title of Coil’s first official release for the name of his new band, How To Destroy Angels. How did that come about and is it true you’re going to be doing something with them in the near future?
S: Always the perfect gentleman, Trent asked if I minded before going public and I told him I would be delighted. I am working on some things using his raw tracks but I don't know if he will ever want to use them because the music I am enjoying working on now sounds like what you might hear if you were coming out of a K-Hole in a Phnom Penh gay brothel where they were playing a very scratched copy of Coil's Time Machines album on vinyl, probably at the wrong speed!

Did you click on one of the big green or black "Download" buttons instead of "Get this torrent"? If you did, that wasn't the torrent... that was an ad, and you likely downloaded a piece of software.

Thank you - problem solved. Silly me in thinking the download button was for the download (it's been a while since I've used Pirate Bay).

Here is my list of essential FLAC tools for Mac users. Use any or all of them:

If you want to convert your FLAC files to something more Mac-native, use XLD or Max, and convert them to Apple Lossless (ALAC). I prefer Max, but XLD is equally good:

http://tmkk.pv.land.to/xld/index_e.html
http://sbooth.org/Max/

For playback of FLAC files natively:
Cog is a very lightweight, quick FLAC player. I prefer to use it to play FLAC files.
http://mamburu.net/cog/

You can also add FLACs to iTunes natively, using Fluke (imports FLACs into iTunes as QuickTime movies):
http://code.google.com/p/flukeformac (http://code.google.com/p/flukeformac/)

For OS X feature integration with FLAC:
Install FLAC Spotlight Importer (into /Library/Spotlight), and it'll make any FLAC tag metadata available to Spotlight (just like ID3 tags for MP3's):
http://sbooth.org/importers/

Install XiphQT, and then install FLAC Import 0.5b1_p0.1 (into /Library/QuickTime):
http://www.xiph.org/quicktime
http://people.xiph.org/~arek/flac_import (http://people.xiph.org/~arek/flac_import/)
This will give QuickTime native FLAC capabilities. Any QuickTime capable application can now read FLAC, including QuickLook in the Finder.

Edit: I forgot a couple more tools.

Tag is great for creating/editing FLAC tagging metadata:
http://sbooth.org/Tag/

Honorable mention for xACT. Most of its FLAC functions (encoding/decoding/tagging) are done better by the above tools, but it has a few useful unique features, like generating/verifying checksums/fingerprints and fixing SBE, and its non-FLAC functions.

Is there any way that we can get the first post in this thread updated with the final link as to where to download this from? There's quite a few different (updated) links in this thread and it makes it a little confusing as to which ones people are supposed to download.

Also, I took the liberty of uploading the MP3 version for people to check out. I'm using the same service that @Camille (http://www.echoingthesound.org/community/member.php?u=2030) is, so hopefully you guys won't have any issues with it. I'm too lazy to open up a Pirate Bay account to upload a torrent (ISP is also anal with bandwidth limitations for me). Here's the link:

Nine Inch Nails - Uncoiled Extended (MP3 320) (http://we.tl/oIqHF8ls6f)

The link expires on Jan 26th, if someone has an account on Pirate Bay and can upload a torrent there, that would be great.

Also, here's a snippet from the email that was sent out to the donors on the bonus tracks that were added.

The extended edition contains tracks that were not included on the original Uncoiled release. Those tracks are as follows:

01 - This is the opening commentary from Danny Hyde.
02 - This is the original version of Gave Up (open my eyes) as Danny intended it to sound. On the initial release of Uncoiled, we incorrectly adjusted the sample rate. This caused the song to play faster than Danny intended.
06 - Closer (demo) with commentary
07 - Additional commentary from Danny Hyde on the following Gave Up remixes

enjoy!

Huh, I just got an email from Cold Spring about a commercial edition related to this, that they're calling "Recoiled" - http://coldspring.co.uk/discography/csr193cd/

“Recoiled” is a rambunctious alchemy, of magikal Coil sensibilities and hi-tech home circa 90’s mixing technique, all fused in the cave-like early studios of Danny Hyde / Peter Christopherson. These were the unrestrained PRE- BIG studio- mix downs, of four songs which long time Coil admirer / collaborator Trent Reznor requested Coil to remix. Reznor sent over the original multi-tracks and DATs to Hyde / Christopherson, who independently mixed versions and then met to synch both creations, molding them into these master versions. ”Recoiled” includes a fuller, more opulent version of the track ‘Closer’, which eventually made it onto the opening credits to the movie “SE7EN”. These 5 lengthy compositions are pre-Ableton / laptop generation type priest song creations, with the use of baby alarms and numerous wires to create bespoke effects. These legendary tracks were always rumoured to exist and, only the due diligence of a dedicated NIN forum who hunted them down, are released/unleashed for your listening pleasure. 4 of the tracks were released on the download-only “Uncoiled”. A bonus, previously unheard track from the same sessions closes the album. Jhonn Balance is also manifest on this gilded constellation. Beautifully remastered for CD / vinyl. CD in digipak.

Did anyone on here get to be a part of this? Nice to get a mention as "a dedicated NIN forum" on there...

Something smells bad about that whole thing.

I had been talking to Danny about doing a short run of digipaks earlier this year, using a copy of the album that he'd had a friend do proper mastering on. Unfortunately I had just way too much stuff going on, and honestly, didn't want to really have to deal with that myself. Product fulfillment sucks. Last month he let me know that he was approached by a company who wanted to release the tracks, and that they liked the artwork on the fan release. Last week, Cold Spring contacted me, I looped MAD in on the email as he had taken the original photography, and today, Recoiled was announced - as a digipak and vinyl release.

Cold Spring is working directly with Danny, and if you look at their catalog, I think it's as good a home as any. As far as rights go, I'm not 100% sure how they've cleared what are effectively samples with Universal, and I hope this just flies under the UMG radar, because it'd be sweet to get this on vinyl.
