I'm killing time before 2.5 hours of meetings with my various advisors and thought I'd see who else is subjecting themselves to the joys of academia.

I'm a little over two years into a PhD in computational neuroscience. Before that I did a master's in Bioinformatics, in which I managed to feature Year Zero related imagery in my thesis. In general, I try to sneak NIN-related materials into my presentations/papers when possible ;)

Hahaha. Well this is the thread for me: just finished a PhD in Comparative Literature - graduated in September after 8 years. Now doing a one-year teaching postdoc at the same institution and currently on the academic "job market." I taught a class on music and literature last summer, and have been doing scholarly writing on music-related subjects: I recently completed a journal article on industrial black metal, and a book chapter on Rammstein and Laibach - both out soon.

I graduated already but for people who are still in graduate school I recommend PHD Comics for some good time wasting.
Here are some of my favorites:

Nice! Critical academic analyses of contemporary music are usually fun. My brother-in-law did a study looking at Eminem and masculinity.

I've enjoyed PhD Comics for a long time. The frequency of updates and adherence to story arcs have really fallen off as he's been branching out into more things it seems.
