If anyone's interested, the Live at Hollywood Bowl DVD that was supposed to come out in 2008 that Morrissey fought against coming out has leaked on torrent sites, proper menus and all.

I'm up to 80% now myself. It's around 7.5 GB.

They're re-releasing Viva Hate, omitting "The Ordinary Boys" and replacing it with "Treat Me Like A Human Being" and, for whatever silly reason, taking a chunk out of the amazing "Late Night, Maudlin Street". Morrissey's going mad...

Morrissey’s debut solo album Viva Hate is reissued next week. Producer and co-writer Stephen Street talks to us about the record and gives his verdict on the reissue.

Stephen Street may not be a household name, but within the music industry and to fans of The Smiths and Blur in particular, he is a highly regarded and respected record producer. He worked with Morrissey and Johnny Marr during the mid-eighties, engineering most of The Smiths output, and his importance to their sound was underlined by a co-production credit (shared with Morrissey and Marr) on the band’s swan song – 1987’s Strangeways, Here We Come.
Street would go on to have major success with Blur in the 1990s producing four of their albums, including Parklife and US-breakthrough Blur, while his work on The Cranberries’ No Need To Argue album in 1994, reached a massive audience with sales to date of over 15 million copies worldwide.
Such is the respect for the man and his work, that a new generation of bands have sought out his services. He produced the first two Kaiser Chiefs albums (2005, 2007) and also worked with the likes of Babyshambles, The Courteeners and Pete Doherty in the later part of the last decade.
Rewind back to the summer of 1987 – The Smiths had just split up, and Morrissey was looking to record a solo album. Stephen Street had sent him a tape of some tracks that he had been working on, and they impressed the now ex-Smiths singer so much, that he suggested they work together immediately.
The results of this collaboration would be Viva Hate, Morrissey’s first solo record, released by EMI in the spring of 1988. The album was a commercial and critical success, containing some of his best known songs outside The Smiths canon, including Everyday Is Like Sunday and Suedehead.
EMI are about to reissue Viva Hate (http://www.superdeluxeedition.com/news/morrissey-alters-viva-hate-for-impending-reissue/) as a special edition (due 2 April in the UK/Europe) and Street has carried out the remastering for this new release. We caught up with him recently to discuss the genesis of the record, the recording of the album and his rather short-lived partnership with Morrissey.
In a candid interview, he reflects on the challenges of “trying to keep Morrissey happy”, and reveals why he thinks the ex-Smiths frontman has “butchered” a song on the new reissue.

SuperDeluxeEdition: 1987 must have been a very strange and busy year for you, starting with The Smiths’ album Strangeways, Here We Come and ending with Morrissey’s Viva Hate. Were there any obvious tensions or signs that The Smiths might be heading for a split during the recording of Strangeways?
Stephen Street: It was a shock when it happened. While recording the album everything was going fine, they seemed to be in a pretty good frame of mind. There was a problem with the management situation where it was obvious in Morrissey’s mind that Ken Friedman wasn’t going to be around much longer, which meant that everything was going to fall back onto Johnny’s shoulders again, as far as day to day organising was concerned and I don’t think Johnny was greatly enamoured with that idea. That was something that was brewing in the background, but actually while we in the studio everything was fine.
SDE: So it was a bolt out of the blue when the split happened?
SS: Yes. When I first heard about it I just thought it was a bit of a tiff and a flexing of political muscles between Johnny and Morrissey, and that sooner or later it would get sorted out and they’d be back together again.
SDE: After the split there was a short period where Morrissey thought about continuing with The Smiths. Could you tell us about the session with Ivor Perry [guitarist who’d been in the band Easterhouse]?
It was quite obvious to all concerned that it wasn’t going to work with Ivor Perry.

SS: There was one session with Ivor Perry. Two days were booked at a studio in Wilesden [North London] and we did one day of that. The following day, which was a Sunday, I got a phone call from Andy Rourke saying that Morrissey had gone back to Manchester and that the session was cancelled. It was quite obvious to all concerned that it wasn’t going to work with Ivor Perry. There was a song recorded on that session called Bengali In Platforms, but it was nothing like the Bengali In Platforms that subsequently ended up on Viva Hate. In fact I don’t even remember Morrissey putting the vocal down in that session – it was just a title he had knocking around.
SDE:You have posted a hand-written letter from Morrissey on your website (http://www.stephenstreet.net/vivahate.html) in which he says that he would like Mike Rourke and Andy Joyce to be involved in the recording of Viva Hate. Why did that not happen in the end?
SS: He changed his mind. I guess he thought that for it to be truly regarded as a Morrissey solo record, he’d have to make a break from them. The next time I met with him after receiving that letter and discussed it further, he made it quite clear – and it was his choice not mine – that he wouldn’t work with Mike and Andy. I think he thought it would cloud the issue. Although he did go back on that idea, as we know, because they were invited back after we’d done the Viva Hate album and they worked with us on Last Of The International Playboys and Interesting Drug.
[B]SDE: With Viva Hate what were you trying to achieve from a production point of view? Was it just a natural progression from what you had achieved on Strangeways, Here We Come?
SS: The point about a natural progression from Strangeways is a good one. With that album there was a sense of the band trying different things, such as not including any guitars on A Rush And A Push And The Land Is Ours. Johnny [Marr] had been quite keen to do a track that didn’t have typical ‘Johnny of The Smiths’ guitar all over it. He wanted to do something where he had to push himself and be a keyboard player. When Morrissey wanted to do a solo record it meant that the horizons could be broadened slightly. For example, when I gave him the track that became Break Up The Family I was quite surprised he went for it, because the general idea for that was to have quite a soul-y, funky backing track. I was just submitting ideas like this to push the envelope and keep him interested.

SDE: You took on a lot with Viva Hate – production duties, co-writing, playing bass and rhythm guitar. Did you give any thought as to how stressful that might be?

Trying to keep Morrissey happy – as a lot of people have discovered over the years – is quite a difficult thing to do.
SS: I was swept away in a wave of enthusiasm, because obviously this was a marvellous opportunity. You’ve got to remember at this time that Morrissey must have been the most revered pop star in the country. I was very aware of this fact and I’m sure he was – he must have had a huge amount of nerves about it too. My worry was making a record that came out and got slated, and I’d be public enemy number one. So it was a nerve-wracking scenario. Trying to keep Morrissey happy – as a lot of people have discovered over the years – is quite a difficult thing to do. You’re walking on eggshells a lot of the time. It was draining. At the time I dropped everything else I was doing, production-wise, so I could focus purely on being his lieutenant – being his co-writer, producer and making the record. I actually did give myself a stomach ulcer by the end of the session because the pressure was pretty intense. When you consider that we didn’t actually start recording until the end of September/beginning of October and then we took a break and did some more writing, followed by more recording. To have the whole thing written and put together from September to Christmas is pretty good going really. I don’t think I’d ever have the strength to do it again, to be honest with you.
SDE: You get the feeling that Morrissey wanted to get the record out as soon as possible to underline the fact that The Smiths were over…
SS: The Smiths were always incredibly quick. Things would be recorded and Morrissey was always impatient to put it out. They’d finish a new single and it was out within the month or two. And in the case of Viva Hate EMI had been waiting a long time to put something out by The Smiths, and obviously it wasn’t The Smiths, but at least it was Morrissey, so they were very keen to put something out. What happened was that I finished the record, literally, the day before Christmas Eve that year [1987], and I didn’t really hear from Morrissey for two and a half months. It wasn’t until Suedehead [the first single] came out at the end of February – and got fantastic reviews across the board – that he got back in touch with me again. If Suedehead had come out and been a complete failure and hadn’t been a hit, I’d never have heard from him again! [laughs].
SDE: You had an almost Johnny Marr-type role with Viva Hate – co-writing, playing and producing, but since it was a Morrissey solo album you maybe didn’t have the level of ‘control’ in terms of what went on the album and what didn’t. Was that the case?
SS: Not really, because the songs we discarded from that session, we both agreed were not good enough. So everything that went on that album were songs that we both genuinely thought were the best work we had done. I wouldn’t say we were arguing about anything at all. The only thing that has happened recently with the remastering, is that Morrissey has made a few decisions that I don’t totally agree with. I wouldn’t say that we’ve argued about it, but we’ve just agreed to disagree.

SDE: Viva Hate has existed in a few incarnations – the original US release contained Hairdresser On Fire (a UK B-side) while the 1997 UK reissue had eight bonus tracks, most of which had nothing to do with Viva Hate. With the new reissue Morrissey has removed the song Ordinary Boys and replaced it with Treat Me Like A Human Being – Have you got any idea why he wanted to do this?

for some reason he’s decided to take Ordinary Boys off – which I don’t understand because I actually think it’s a fine song
SS: I haven’t. I wanted to leave the album purely as it was. I just wanted to remaster it so that the EQ of the album was better, and get it sounding as good as it could possibly sound. Treat Me Like A Human Being was a demo that sat in the can for a long time. It was a personal demo, literally, a four-track recording that I’d done in my home studio. So I found that, and I’d been in touch with Morrissey for the first time in ages, and my view was that we should put it on the reissue and perhaps put some of the B-sides from the singles on there, to show what happened in that six month period. But as you know, for some reason he’s decided to take Ordinary Boys off – which I don’t understand because I actually think it’s a fine song – one of the better songs on side two – and replace it with the demo. I think it [the demo] should have been added as an extra track, rather than replacing a track.

SDE: It’s curious and somewhat contrary to note that while most artists tend to expand their albums for special editions, Morrissey has chosen to remove a track from his.
SS: I think the word ‘contrary’ is the key word there! [laughs]
SDE: Treat Me Like A Human Being has already been out anyway, as the B-side to the 2011 UK re-release of Morrissey’s Glamorous Glue single.
SS: I don’t know why he did that. What happened was I hadn’t spoken to Morrissey for years and I got in touch with him again after a very long time, and I said to him, “Do you remember this track?” and he did, and so he said “Let’s use it”, and I said “Great”, thinking he was going to use it on this reissue of Viva Hate, because we were discussing it then. And then he used it on the B-side of the Glamorous Glue single, which had nothing to do with that period of time at all. I thought it was a wrong move personally, but then again he is a solo artist and he will do what he wants to do.

SDE: The B-sides and extra tracks from the Viva Hate period, although still available (notably on a three-disc Morrissey singles collection) are now somewhat lost, given that they do not form part of this special reissue.
SS: Yes, I think so. Personally, I think what should have been put on the reissue of the album is the demo and the B-sides of the period such as I Know Very Well How I Got My Name…
SDE: … And Hairdresser On Fire, which is a great track. For those in the US, this new reissue actually misses off TWO album tracks since Hairdresser was on the album over there…

he’s chopped off the front and the end of Late Night, Maudlin Street, which I think, again, is a wrong move.
SS: Yes, that should have gone on. And also, the other thing is that he’s chopped off the front and the end of Late Night, Maudlin Street, which I think, again, is a wrong move. I produced that track with an intro in mind and an outro in mind, and now both ends of it have been kind of butchered, really, in my estimation. So I’m not happy about that, either. But then again, what can I do? It’s not my album – it’s his.
http://www.superdeluxeedition.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/03/viva_chop-1024x861.jpg (http://www.superdeluxeedition.com/interview/stephen-street-talks-viva-hate-and-trying-to-keep-morrissey-happy/attachment/viva_chop/)US audiences see two tracks removed from the original Sire release

SDE: In 2010 you participated in the BBC Radio show “The Record Producers” and you were going to play some Viva Hate demos on that show – until Morrissey intervened…
SS: They were just demos, and I really wanted to show – in a complimentary way – how good the songs sounded, even as four-track demos. This was before I got back in touch with him again, so I was still a little bit of a ‘persona non grata’ at the time. I think I mentioned it on my website, and once he got word of it, we got a very strong legal letter from Morrissey’s solicitor saying how dare you do anything without the permission of Morrissey himself – you must hand over these recordings to us now. So I had to go back to Steve Levine who was producing those particular programmes and we decided that there was not much we could do about it, but he [Morrissey] had shot himself in the foot because he hadn’t won any friends at the BBC by doing that.
SDE: So I guess there was no question that those demos would have ever appeared on this new reissue?
SS: They are probably not good enough to put on the reissue of the album, but the reason why I wanted to play a little snippet of them on that radio programme – which was about me, not about him – was to show how an album grows from being a very tiny little demo idea, to a finished thing. The idea was only to play a little bit – a verse or a chorus from a demo. I had no intention of playing the whole thing. But it didn’t happen in the end.

SDE: For a lot of fans the ‘carrot’ to buy this reissue will be the remastering. Do you think Viva Hate needed remastering?
SS: It did need remastering. For some reason back in the late ‘80s when records were mastered they [mastering engineers] tended to filter out the bottom end, and they used to bring in the stereo picture a bit as well, so if things were extreme left and right they were pulled in to a more mono picture. So the width of recording and the depth of recording is not how I originally mixed it. When we went back to the tapes we had to ‘bake’ them, because they were getting to the age where they were beginning to shed slightly [on tapes of a certain age the glue that holds the oxide particles on the tape begins to break down] but it was amazing, because when you put on the original CD of Viva Hate and then you play the actual half-inch mixes, there was much more bottom end, it sounded better, warmer – a more analogue sound. And also now, the levels that records are cut at now are much louder, So if you’ve got an original Viva Hate track in iTunes, it will sound 4-5db lower than the modern record. So the idea was to get the tracks sounding better but without getting involved in the ‘loudness wars’.
SDE: I was going to ask you about that. Audiophiles are rightly vocal about their dislike for squashed dynamic range and remasters that are cranked up far too loud. I assume you didn’t go down that route?
SS: No. I briefly popped in on Johnny [Marr] when he was doing The Smiths back catalogue, and then same line of thought was applied then, which was to bring the volumes up, but not get them to the point where they are really, really loud and affecting the dynamics.
SDE: Your period with Morrissey was very successful, in terms of hit records. Why did the partnership not extend to a second album?

it tarnished his thoughts and feelings towards me, and I was out of the picture.

SS: I thought we were getting better. The quality of the B-sides that we put out on the Every Day Is Like Sunday single and then the subsequent singles we did later on that year, I thought were getting better and better. I was finding my feet more as a co-writer, but unfortunately what was still hanging over us – as there often has been in Morrissey’s career, unfortunately – was getting the paperwork tidied up. Basically, what happened was, for the producer’s royalty on the record, he initially wanted me to take the one point I got when I was working on The Smiths stuff. I pointed out that a producer worth his salt, working on a such a record would be getting three or four points, and it took months, and months and months to agree on me getting paid a royalty rate that was regarded as fair, and basically it tarnished his thoughts and feelings towards me, and I was out of the picture. It’s just one of those things unfortunately. Like the court case, money ruins everything.

SDE: Vini Reilly [guitarist on Viva Hate] came out and tried to claim credit for your work on this album. What was going on there?
SS: I don’t know. He also claimed Morrissey invited him to work on the record, when I invited him. I’d worked with Vini on a Duritti Column album the previous year. I just wanted a good guitar player, technically, who could come in and play the parts and expand on the parts that I wrote on the demo lines. So the idea was to get Vini in, a good drummer in Andrew Paresi, and I would then do the dogsbody stuff like the rhythm guitar and the bass and so on. Vini turned around and said to me “I’m not playing that song, it’s too bloody simple” – well that song was Everyday Is Like Sunday! He’s a musical snob in some respects – he’s incredibly frustrating. When he came out at the end of the record and said “those Street songs were crap, I had to rewrite them”, that was a complete load of bollocks. He also said that he wrote them in the first place, which is why I wanted to put the Viva Hate diaries on my website, to get the record straight.

Ryan
04-13-2012, 08:06 PM
SDE: Do you think Viva Hate is your best work?
SS: [Pause] It’s one of my favourite works in the sense that I know what effort was put into it, and how we worked against all the odds to come up with a record as good as that in such a short period of time. I think I’ve made better cohesive albums with The Smiths – I still think Strangeways is an incredible album. I know the fans generally think The Queen Is Dead is a better, I love that album too, don’t get me wrong, but personally, from a production point of view, I think my best work was on Strangeways. And also, I love some of the records I made with Blur, and there are other records that mean a lot to me like Pete Doherty and stuff like that. But I’m very proud of what we achieved with Viva Hate and I regard it as a very big milestone in my own career.
SDE: You mentioned that you’d been talking with Morrissey a little bit recently, does that mean you’re friends again?

I know he’s going to be upset over my comments about the reissue, but what can I do?
SS: I was lying in bed one night thinking, this is ridiculous, not being in touch with the guy that had such a big part in my career, and here we are in our fifties now, it would be nice to at least make contact again. So I wrote a letter to him and gave it to my manager and asked her to somehow get it to Morrissey. At first we had a communication back from his representative saying, “Is this a legal letter? Do we need to get a lawyer involved?” [laughs] No! It was a personal letter, just saying “Hi, how are you?” And then he did get the letter, and got in contact with me by email. We met up in London and we had that one-night meeting in a hotel bar and had a good chat. It was really good fun, it was really lovely to see the guy again. Since then, he’s been in touch with me intermittently, but at least we are in touch by email. I know he’s going to be upset over my comments about the reissue, but what can I do?I’m a grown man, and if I feel like I disagree with him on something, I’m going to say so. And I’m sure he’ll be upset by it, but I’m only expressing my personal view.
SDE: Stephen Street, thank you.

I've been into this dude's music since the '90s. I went through a trainspotter phase where I read every interview, heard every b-side and demo, knew the names of all the past and present band members, and speculated on the state of Morrissey's love life. Since around the time of theYears of Refusal tour, it's become so embarrassing to be his fan. The histrionic open letters, the turn for the radical that his animal rights activism has taken, the diva antics (such as barring David Tseng, operator of a Morrissey fansite, from all future Morrissey shows) and botched reissues, it's all too much. Oh, and his flirtation with Catholicism, which has become quite pronounced in the last five years. The body of work that he's left behind is incredible, and contains surprisingly few missteps for an artist so erratic, but I do hope he recedes from the public eye before he scares all his remaining fans off.

My thoughts exactly. He has mentioned that he wants to be retired by age 55, so maybe he'll bow out before things can get much worse. I'll always love his back catalog and the person he was in the past, but modern Morrissey is highly disappointing.

Nope. He says it's finished but can't find a good record deal. He could always just release it independently but he's too old-fashioned to do that.

This is the first time Morrissey has included "To Give" in the set. From Uncleskinny, "To Give" is a cover of a Frankie Valli song (YouTube video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hpLM20jtf0A#%21)). Covered also by Shirley Bassey (YouTube video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Rjy6I7v13w)).

So....what's the latest on a new record?

Sadly, I think the latest is "fat chance". Morrissey's claimed to the press that a record is done, and has been done for some time, and that some offers have been on the table from different labels but, from a business standpoint, they've been unworkable. That said, Morrissey says all manner of things to the press, and I'm unable to distinguish his truths from his obfuscations. Some times, I think Morrissey is as well. He's been touring constantly (or he has been right up until his mother fell ill) and has been playing new material. I have no evidence for this, but my gut tells me that this is how the last few years of Morrissey's pop career will look. Lots of gigging, the occasional new song played live and posted on Youtube, without the fuss of an album promotion cycle. Of course I'd like to see new music from him, but if this really is the beginning of the end, Years of Refusal is a fine way to exit. You may disagree, but I rate it only slightly second-best to Vauxhall and I among his solo catalogue.

Morrissey's rescheduled U.S. dates will be announced on November 12; dates in New Zealand and Australia remain firmly in place (http://true-to-you.net/morrissey_news_121103_01) - true-to-you.net

3 November 2012

The new run of Morrissey's rescheduled U.S. dates will be announced on November 12. The dates in New Zealand and Australia remain firmly in place, and the North American shows will continue from the beginning of January.

So....what's the latest on a new record?

Billboard: We're still awaiting the follow-up to 2009's 'Years of Refusal,' which you've said won't be released without label support. Are you holding fast to that, or have you started to consider alternate methods of distribution?

Morrissey: I've held fast, but I now accept that the newer songs - which actually aren't that new anymore - will only ever exist in the YouTube domain. Do I see myself receiving a grown-up recording offer from a label of stature and power? No. I have a better chance of being hit by lightning.

Message from Morrissey
The reports of my death have been greatly understated. Once admitted to the William Beaumont Hospital at Royal Oak in Michigan, I received treatment for concussion, a bleeding ulcer, and Barrett's esophagus. The positive from all of this is that there are now no known ailments left for me to try.
I am fully determined to resume the tour on February 9 at the Chelsea Ballroom in Las Vegas. If there's an audience of any kind in attendance, I just might die with a smile on my face, after all. If I am not there, I shall probably never again be anywhere.
Equally, I am determined to play Flint (Michigan) if it kills me (which, on the face of it, it almost has.)
Thank you to everyone present at both Brooklyn (New York) and Melbourne (Australia) during recent weeks for two of the best nights of what might charitably be termed my "career". My debt to you will outlive time itself.

Oh I know, I completely understand that...what I meant by that however was just I feel so bad that he's been so sick and I wish he would take it even more easier...perhaps just call off the tour for a bit and get your health back to 100%. It just seems he's been trying to get better again and then he has to cancel more dates due to his health. I wish him a speedy recovery of course.

Statement 16 February 2013 (http://true-to-you.net/morrissey_news_130216_01) - true-to-you.net

Statement:

I am terribly sorry that the next three shows have been moved back. The worst is for the best. I am certainly on the road to recovery, but caution and prevention demand further IV blood work lest I keel over and die before your very eyes. I apologize to an almost annoying degree for any trouble I've caused to anyone by way of travel plans and dog-sitters and ticket-outlay and re-molded hairstyles. I should be as fit as a ferret for San Diego. Please don't be too appalled if you see me out and about this week in the Hollywood area. Perversely, it's all in accordance with doctor's orders: to have myself re-integrated with the call of the greasepaint and the smell of the crowd; the flash of light and the full thrust of mosh-pit sound. Illness turns the body into a complete stranger, and I'll be testing the capabilities of my strides at the most unlikely music shows this week. The will to get on with it runs strong. Even death can be used as a springboard. For those scholars who are heatedly curious, my ulcer is now under reins, even if neither asleep nor dead, but the continued cause for concern is a slightly embarrassing absence of blood – most of which the bleeding ulcer relieved me of. Anemia sets its own terms with quite obvious biological conclusions, and I have spent these last weeks under expert medical care in Los Angeles with an almost erotic dependency on various IV drips. Sitting around reading indecent books is no substitute for continuing the tour, but my progress holds great promise and Flint shall not escape quite so lightly. We are all at the mercy of biological chance, and I once again beg for your liberal tolerance. If you bump into me this week at a heavy rock show, please understand that I'm lowering myself into the cut and thrust after weeks on ice - horizontal, with sockets empty of eyes. In the midst of the abyss, I'm saved by the news that tickets for the tour continue to sell very well, and my straightjacket twitches with excited gratitude. But the patient must be patient. Our goal, now, is San Diego, by which time my blood-work shall have finally taken its course and I shall be shot from a cannon and might even be equipped with an extra eye. We just never know, do we? Being on life's danger list, I've found, actually prevents you from thinking about how you are, and there's a bread-like warmth in giving in to whatever was meant for you and whatever wasn't. The only critical mistake might be to confuse your pre-med with creativity - which is certainly worth the confusion if it renders you not fully present in your own life. Finally, I gorge myself on thanks for the many and varied messages of support that I've received over these recent four weeks. They have yanked me out of prolonged mood dips and cured a crisis of spirits. I fully realize that the word 'cancellation' in every known dictionary is followed by my own name, but no morale drops as low as my own at the mere suggestion of re-jigging shows. I sincerely ask for your pardon and your understanding. As for those of you who claim to now be officially sick to death of me - if this is really true, then why exactly are you reading this? As a matter of fact, I am even prepared to humble myself to nothing before those who carp; you see, any hospital-stay leaves us in danger of becoming unnecessarily agreeable. Life will right itself.

Whatever happens, I love you.

Unless you're Carey Mulligan (who had bad taste in men), lame hipsters, or the music buying public with no taste. I told my dad that this is what is considered rock. He was insulted. Back to topic.

It was good seeing how Johnny Marr came up with those riffs for "Heaven Knows I'm Miserable Now". Man, he's such a great guitar player. He should be up there with the Hendrix, Clapton, and other rock guitarists. Hell, I think he's far more interesting than those guys.

From Morrissey's FB page just now:
Morrissey is thankful for being invited to perform on Jimmy Kimmel Live tomorrow, February 26. However, he cannot morally be on a television program where the cast members of Duck Dynasty will also be guests. Morrissey would be honored to play the show, if Duck Dynasty were removed.
He's gettin' pretty pasted in the comments...

Good on Moz I say. That rebuttal was an awesome read. I'm a meat addict myself but I've got a lot of respect for vegetarians/vegans (hoping one day I will have the strength/drive to kick the meat habit but it's unlikely). Great to see someone standing up for their beliefs and not backing down in the face of inane ridicule.

Anyway, I'd seriously question the value of a talk show that would prefer to have the "stars" of some lame reality show everyone will have forgotten about in three years over the frontman of one of the most important bands of the past 40 years...

MORRISSEY
Live in L.A.

One of music’s most enigmatic and intriguing figures returns to centre-stage. Morrissey’s prolific career as a solo recording artist, singer and lyricist has generated an array of hits and much critical acclaim, whilst he remains one of the most influential and iconic individuals in the industry. Being the first concert film from Morrissey in many years, this rare show captures the former Smiths frontman playing live at the Hollywood High School in Los Angeles to a legion of loyal fans

Set list for that evening was:

Alma Matters / Ouija Board, Ouija Board / Irish Blood, English Heart / You Have Killed Me / November Spawned A Monster / Maladjusted / You're The One For Me, Fatty / Still Ill / People Are The Same Everywhere / Speedway / That Joke Isn't Funny Anymore / Meat Is Murder / Please, Please, Please Let Me Get What I Want / To Give (The Reason I Live) / Everyday Is Like Sunday / I'm Throwing My Arms Around Paris / Action Is My Middle Name / Let Me Kiss You // The Boy With The Thorn In His Side

I prefer The Smiths to the Beatles. In the British rock chapel Morrissey/Marr own Lennon/Mcartney. I also think their first album is far better than The Queen is Dead. Much darker. But more beautiful.
I need to get Morrissey's autobiography probably one of the most anticipated books for a while.

He admits to being in a serious relationship for two years in the 90s with Jake Owen Waters his personal assistant.

Morrissey is the best interviewee of all time, its about time he released a book. Be interesting to see what else he has to say.

Whats everyone's Top 10 Smiths songs? Mine

1 - Hand that Rocks the Cradle
2 - Suffer Little Children
3 - You Got Everything Now
4 - Headmaster Ritual
5 - How Soon is Now
6 - Hand in Glove
7 - What Difference Does it Make
8 - Half A Person
9 - Shiela Take A Bow
10 - Stop Me if You Think that You Heard this One Before.

I had tickets to the Live in LA movie, but didn't go as I didn't have a date. I've also had the privilege to see Moz once two years ago and it was heaven.
I can't compile a top ten list but my favorite Smiths song is I Know Its Over. While I don't have Moz's entire discography, Ringleader of the Tormentors is probably my favorite Moz album.

I'll do a top 5:
1. The Draize Train
2. Hand in Glove
3. Barbarism Begins at Home
4. How Soon is Now?
5. Stop Me If You Think You've Heard This One Before

Autobiography covers Morrissey’s life from his birth until the present day.
Steven Patrick Morrissey was born in Manchester on May 22nd 1959. Singer-songwriter and co-founder of the Smiths (1982-1987), Morrissey has been a solo artist for twenty-six years, during which time he has had three number 1 albums in England in three different decades.
Achieving eleven Top 10 albums (plus nine with the Smiths), his songs have been recorded by David Bowie, Nancy Sinatra, Marianne Faithfull, Chrissie Hynde, Thelma Houston, My Chemical Romance and Christy Moore, amongst others.
An animal protectionist, in 2006 Morrissey was voted the second greatest living British icon by viewers of the BBC, losing out to Sir David Attenborough. In 2007 Morrissey was voted the greatest northern male, past or present, in a nationwide newspaper poll. In 2012, Morrissey was awarded the Keys to the City of Tel-Aviv.
It has been said ‘Most pop stars have to be dead before they reach the iconic status that Morrissey has reached in his lifetime.’

I'm not sure if its appropriate to post about it here, but Morrisey is the only reason why I follow Pitchfork on facebook - the comments on his many, many, many, many canceled -insert show, book, cd, tour, dinner, tv appearance etc here- articles are hysterical.

Sometimes "The Queen is Dead" and "Shoplifters..." are really close to the "number 1 spot", yet the Lyrics on "I know it's over" are too f'n powerful!

“Morrissey has two albums’ worth of songs ready,” says guitarist Jesse Tobias (http://www.uncut.co.uk/morrissey/morrissey-has-two-albums-worth-of-songs-ready-says-guitarist-jesse-tobias-news#QJTCv7gqrEEP5Q2Y.99) - uncut.co.uk

Morrissey has two albums of songs prepared, his guitarist Jesse Tobias reveals in the new issue of Uncut, out on Thursday (November 28).

Tobias explains that the singer, whose last full-length release was 2009’s Years Of Refusal, has a huge wealth of material ready to record and release.

“We’re long overdue for the studio,” he says. “There are two albums’ worth of songs ready.

“I’ve heard almost everything and feel it’s some of the strongest material to date. Musically diverse. Anthemic. Even in their infant stages the songs excite me.”

Morrissey’s friends and bandmates chart the singer’s turbulent year in the new Uncut, taking in illness, hospital stays, meat-free arenas and cancelled tours, as well as the huge success of his Autobiography.

The new issue of Uncut, dated January 2014, is out on Thursday (November 28).

David Morrissey, the "Walking Dead" actor who will be doing the audio version of Autobiography, was interviewed by the AV Club and was asked about the experience of recording the audio book. He gave what I think is a nice, intelligent answer.

The Walking Dead’s David Morrissey on keeping secrets and surviving as the Governor (http://www.avclub.com/article/the-walking-deads-david-morrissey-on-keeping-secre-106033) - The A.V. Club

Excerpt:

AVC: You recently recorded the audiobook version of Autobiography, by singer-songwriter and former Smiths frontman Morrissey. As a longtime fan of his, what were you most surprised to learn while reading the book?

DM: He’s always had that tag of “miserable Morrissey,” and he certainly can indulge that side of himself. But his humor is unbelievable. I had to stop reading many times because I was laughing so much. His cutting wit is second to none. Not that that surprised me—the consistency of it is amazing. There’s something Wildean about his writing—his putdowns are genius. It was just constantly jumping out at me. He’s somebody who’s in a place now where he’s very secure in his life and his music and I think that security and that belief in himself comes through in the book. He challenges many things in the book, many aspects of his past. There’s a lot of anger toward the music press, but in such a witty way. I hope I’ve done it justice, because it’s such a wonderful book.

Morrissey has answered a sixth series of questions submitted by Questions And Answers participants. These questions and Morrissey's answers are as follows.

Excerpts:

Who inspired you to sing?
KARICACSARY, Fontana.
Bobby Hatfield. He was the smaller of the two Righteous Brothers, and his falsetto swoop made me jump backwards over the settee. You should You Tube their You've lost that lovin' feelin', and you'll see what I mean. When I made the record Ringleader of the tormentors, the producer (Tony Visconti), who is a very close friend of David Bowie, tried to get both Bowie and I together to do our version of You've lost that lovin' feelin', with David doing the deep Bill Medley parts, and me doing the Bobby Hatfield shrieks. I loved this idea, but David wouldn't budge. I know I've criticized David in the past, but it's all been snotnosed junior high ribbing on my part. I think he knows that.

I was lucky enough to see you in Istanbul in July 2012. It was an amazing night, very intense, and it was a dream come true. How was it to be in Istanbul, and what do you think about the audience and the concert?
MELIS, Istanbul.
Well, we are about to record our new album, and one of the tracks is called Istanbul. It is second to Rome as my most favorite city in the world...

You are one of the few personalities in modern times who have really influenced my thinking about art and life. Have you ever thought about writing a novel?
HANNA, Germany.
In 2013 I published my Autobiography and it has been more successful than any record I have ever released, so, yes, I am mid-way through my novel. I have my hopes...

I wonder if Action is My Middle Name will be one of them.

I dunno, but it sure deserves it.

All of the songs (including their length) listed for "World Peace Is None Of Your Business" seem so... non-single-like, apart from "Istanbul," which makes me wonder if we will get non-album singles like back in the old day.

Action Is My Middle Name would be a welcome one, with "Art-Hounds" as the b-side. That song is so awesome and only ever popped up once live.

...then again, Action, The Kid's A Looker, Scandinavia and People Are The Same Everywhere were all released as In-Session extras on 25Live, so it's hard to tell.

21/05 - Istanbul
04/06 - Earth Is The Loneliest Planet

No word on formats or b-sides yet.

Very surprised at this - I'd resigned myself to thinking that the singles would be AIMMN, TKAL and PATSE.

Unusual strategy too, staggering the releases like this.

Very exciting though!

It sounds a little "light" and the songs aren't of the best quality, though there are some great ones on there like Our Frank, Driving Your Girlfriend Home, Tony The Pony (just my opinion; I love that one), There's A Place In Hell For Me And My Friends (the live version from "At KROQ" is much better; full band and much faster/rockier, (I'm) The End Of The Family Line...

I think it's more just the stinkers like Asian Rut, Found Found Found and King Leer that people find off-putting. It still has its great moments though.

I love that title: Tour cancelled? lol

Moz plays Santa Ana tonight. Too bad I'm in class and it was sold out.

Morrissey allegedly refuses to perform in Santa Ana unless venue cancels other show - Consequence of Sound (http://www.morrissey-solo.com/content/1760-Morrissey-allegedly-refuses-to-perform-in-Santa-Ana-unless-venue-cancels-other-show-Consequence-of-Sound)

Morrissey (http://consequenceofsound.net/artist/morrissey/)’s previous North American tours were derailed (http://consequenceofsound.net/2013/03/morrissey-cancels-remainder-of-u-s-tour-due-to-ongoing-health-issues/) due to an array of health issues. Now, just two days into his latest jaunt (http://consequenceofsound.net/2014/02/morrissey-announces-2014-us-tour-dates-no-really/), he’s found himself facing an entirely different obstacle: other bands.
Moz is due to play The Observatory in Santa Ana, CA this evening. Inside the venue is a second music space, dubbed The Constellation Room, where We Are Scientists and PAWS are scheduled to perform. According to PAWS’ Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=733959379960908), Morrissey made an attempt to have their show canceled, “because he is playing in another room in the same venue and wishes for their to be no other artists performing in his vicinity.”
Update: PAWS has removed their Facebook post. According to the band’s publicist, the band will, in fact, perform tonight as originally planned.
Meanwhile, We Are Scientists said (https://twitter.com/wearescientists/status/464556068572762112) they’ve changed their set times to accommodate Morrissey’s “bedtime.” They expanded on the day’s events in an issued statement:

Chris from W.A.S. here. Happy to confirm that PAWS’ are back on. When it became apparent that Morrissey’s set was going to overlap with the WAS/PAWS bill, everybody really did agree that couldn’t work — even though the two venues are separated by a reasonably thick wall, Moz fans wouldn’t have been able to hear a lick of what they’d paid to see. Both bands on our bill play at nuclear volume, triumphant volume, and it goes right through walls. Putting on the two shows simultaneously would be like screening a mumblecore film and a Michael Bay movie in theaters divided by a cotton bed sheet. So we’ve moved the WAS/PAWS show a little later, which will probably come as a nice surprise to our fans, many of whom have had to set their alarms especially early this afternoon in order to make the show.
Read the entirety of PAWS’ original posting below:

Morrissey is currently trying to have our slot at tonights show in Santa Ana, California cancelled because he is playing in another room in the same venue and wishes for their to be no other artists performing in his vicinity.
This is an unbelievable act of complete and utter selfishness that should not be tolerated. This rich, has-been, ego maniac acting like a baby throwing toys from a pram. To satisfy his little power hungry brain. A complete disregard for others and a baffling lack of support/respect for young, hard working musicians.
People like this, with attitudes like this displays a classic example of why the music industry is still awash with disgusting garbage that should by now have been snuffed out. Pedestals, self righteous entitlement, disrespect and “competition”. Geez. It’s not like we’ve come all the way from Scotland to play for nothin’…
I’m just going to leave this photo and sentiment with you and we’ll report back with developments. We won’t go out without a fight!
What do you all think?

World Peace Is None Of Your Business

World peace is none of your business
You must not tamper with arrangements
Work hard and sweetly pay your taxes
Never asking what for

Oh oh, you poor little fool
Oh oh, you fool

World peace is none of your business
Police will stun you with their stun guns
Or they’ll disable you with tasers
That’s what governments for

Oh oh, you poor little fool
Oh oh, you fool

World peace is none of your business
So would you kindly keep your nose out
The rich must profit and get richer
And the poor must stay poor

Oh oh, you poor little fool
Oh oh, you fool

Each time you vote you support the process
Each time you vote you support the process
Each time you vote you support the process
Brazil, Bahrain
Oh, Egypt, Ukraine
So many people in pain

No more you poor little fool
No more you fool

Earth Is The Loneliest Planet

Earth is the loneliest planet of all
Earth is the loneliest planet of all

Day after day you say “one day, one day”
Day after day you say “one day, one day”
But you’re in the wrong place and you’ve got the wrong face
And humans are not really very humane
And Earth is the loneliest planet of all

Earth is the loneliest planet of all
Live with a lowness that no one else knows
Time after time you say “next time, next time”
Time after time you say “next time, next time”
But you fail as a woman and you lose as a man; we do what we can
And Earth is the cruelest place you will never understand

But you're in the wrong skin
But the skin that you're in is safer
Let it begin
And Earth is the loneliest planet of all

Earth is the loneliest planet of all
Earth is the loneliest planet of all

Day after day you say “one day, one day”
Day after day you say “one day, one day”
And there's always a reason why you're refused
They always blame "you, you, you"

I agree, but I think the venue has to admit some wrongdoing on their end as well. While We Are Scientists were playing in a smaller room, the venue had to have known some primadonna shit was going to happen, whether it be from Moz or his own camp. At this point it's not surprising, what's more surprising is that We Are Scientists are still around.

I'm seeing him in two weeks again in Austin, does he still have the same backing band from two years ago? That drummer was incredible.

Is it weird that after stumbling upon the Smiths casually im put off by the aggressive commercialism I find in this thrwad in regards to Morrissey? Im still unfamiliar with his solo work, but there seems like a whole shit load of ego there.

Morrissey Is Now Tweeting, Everybody - Pitchfork
Today, history is made

Excerpt:

Although Morrissey's Twitter page indicates that he joined the social network in June of 2009, today, May 14, 2014, is a historic day (for some of us): Morrissey has posted his first Tweet.
And here it is:

A rep has confirmed that this is indeed Morrissey Tweeting. Over on Morrissey's Facebook page, it says "https://twitter.com/itsmorrissey Feel free to reach out."

Girl Least Likely To was played in El Paso last night (first time since 1992!).

Apparently the security got really violent with the stage runners so Moz cut it short during One Day Goodbye Will Be Farewell again, shaking the hand of a fan and saying sorry about the security.

The Archers - true-to-you.net
14 May 2014

Morrissey has been invited to appear in The Archers, which is the world's longest-running radio soap opera. The Archers has on average 5 million listeners per week, and first began in 1950. With six episodes per week, The Archers is the most popular show on Radio 4, and is considered to be a British institution.
Morrissey is said to be "fascinated" by the offer.

And then I thought that maybe Morrissey's classic one-liners would actually make a Twitter account entertaining or logical, for once.

I'm following in hopes that he'll give us routine gripes. I can't wait for that!!!!

World Peace Is None of Your Business is on an endless loop tonight. Really digging it.

How much is that box set? Also, it comes with the book, right? The U.S version or the UK version?

The version of Jack The Ripper from Beethoven Was Deaf is one of the best things Morrissey has ever done, Smiths or solo.

Especially when you consider it was initially a b-side that really wasn't that powerful at all (and included that additional line of "Nobody knows me..." which isn't sung live),
then it just turned into this huge juggernaut live.

Lyrics to Istanbul:

When he first cried
His mother died
I had tried to be his guide
When he was born I was too young
The father searches for the son

In Istanbul
Give him back to me
Oh, Istanbul
Give me back my brown-eyed son

Moonlight jumping through the trees
Sunken eyes avoiding me
From dawn to dusk the hunt is on
The father searches for the son

In Istanbul
Give him back to me
In Istanbul
Give me back my brown-eyed son

On secret streets in disbelief
Little shadow shows the lead
Prostitutes; stylish and glum
In amongst them you are one
Oh, what have I done?

Rolling breathless off the tongue
The vicious street gang slang
I lean into a box of pine
Identify the kid as mine

Morrissey Soundtracks New PETA Video, to Be Presented on His Upcoming Tour (http://pitchfork.com/news/55256-morrissey-soundtracks-new-peta-video-to-be-presented-on-his-upcoming-tour/) - Pitchfork
Video collaboration corresponds with Morrissey's 55th birthday

Also, and excerpt from the PETA press release:

Notoriously picky about licensing his music—even when big bucks are offered—Morrissey granted rights to his darkly emotional song "I Know It's Gonna Happen Someday" to PETA for free to use as the score for the new video, which tells the story of Nugget, a baby chick who is separated from his mother and spends his life dreaming of escaping a cruel factory farm and reuniting with her. At the video's end, Nugget finds a happy ending—but back at the factory farm, another baby chick is born, only to experience the same fate as the more than 7 billion chickens who are slaughtered in the U.S. every year.

"PETA's 'Someday' video shows us what happens every day in the meat industry: Animals are torn away from their mothers, are caged, and eventually have their throats slit," says PETA Senior Vice President Lisa Lange. "The best way for anyone to celebrate Morrissey's birthday is to go vegan—not 'someday,' but today."

The Cartoon That Broke Morrissey’s Heart (http://www.peta.org/features/morrissey-opening-act/) - PETA.org

PETA’s new video “Someday,” brought to life by Los Angeles animator Anna Saunders, was created in honor of Morrissey’s 55th birthday. The video, which is scheduled to be featured on the rock icon’s new nationwide tour, takes viewers on a harrowing journey as they witness—through the eyes of one terrified bird—the typical experience of chickens raised for meat. Will our young chick survive what 8 billion chickens (http://www.peta.org/issues/animals-used-for-food/factory-farming/chickens/) each year cannot? Watch to find out:

Kick the bride down the aisle
And make no mistake
It's the best you can do for everyone's sake

Kick the bride down the aisle
And treasure the day
I know so much more than I'm willing to say

She just wants a slave
??? to the living wage
So that she can laze and graze
For the rest of her days
Write down every word I say

Kick the bride down the aisle
In a mudslide of gloom
She'll order you to tidy your room

Kick the bride down the aisle
Look at that cow
In the field
It knows more than your bride knows now

She just wants a slave
???? to the living wage
So that she can laze and graze
For the rest of her days
Write down every word I say

That the tide doesn't reach
No reason, no meaning

Morrissey statement on tour cancellation - true-to-you.net
Published on June 11, 2014 12:19 AM

Morrissey announces the close down of the present U.S. tour with "unimaginable sorrow".
On Saturday, June 7th, following the show at Boston Opera House, Morrissey collapsed and was rushed to Massachusetts General Hospital where doctors treated Morrissey for "acute fever". Difficulties had arisen on May 31st following Kristeen Young's opening set at the Miami Knight Concert Hall, after which Kristeen confessed to "a horrendous cold", the symptoms of which were passed on to Morrissey resulting in the cancellation of the next show in Atlanta.
For the good of all, Kristeen was asked to step down from the immediate upcoming shows, but instead she decided to leave the tour entirely. Morrissey and the band wish her well and hope she is now in good health.
Morrissey received medical attention in Miami, and once again in Boston, but it was not enough to shake off the virus, the recovery time for which is too lengthy to meet the final 9 shows of the tour.
Morrissey and the band are otherwise delighted and very grateful for their experiences on the U.S. tour, some shows of which they considered to be their best-ever, most notably:

1 BOSTON Opera House
2 LOS ANGELES Sports Arena
3 BEAUMONT Julie Rogers Theater
4 NASHVILLE Ryman Auditorium
5 MEMPHIS Orpheum Theater

>>

Kristeen Young responds to Morrissey's tour cancellation TTY statement
>>

Posted by Kristeen Young on Facebook shortly after the TTY statement:

Ok. Regarding the recent True-to-you statement from Morrissey: I did not "confess to a horrendous cold". On Monday, June 2nd, I had an allergy attack that was over within 16 hours. I went to a doctor (on Monday, June 2nd), an allergy specialist, who gave me drugs for allergies...and they worked. I explained this (early on Tuesday, June 3rd) and offered this doctor's phone number to Morrissey personally, via email, and the tour manager, Donnie Knutson (for proof....since they seemed to doubt me). But, they NEVER followed up with me or said doctor. Also....it is incorrect that I "decided to leave the tour completely". I was asked to leave. Was called (in the presence of my band as witnesses) by Morrissey's booking agent, Dave Tamaroff, and told that there would be a new support band in Boston. I am very sorry that Morrissey is not feeling well. But I will not tolerate these lies....particularly about my health. This is really too much and bizarre.

Further in the comments, Kristeen also writes:

Jerry. Believe me....I am fine. I am not whiling away my days weeping about this. But I HAVE to correct lies about my health, behaviour, etc. I DON"T WANT BACK! Quite the opposite. I WANT TO BE LEFT ALONE AND NOT LIED ABOUT. It seems like I'm not the one who can't get over it

UPDATE 8:05PM:
more comments by KY in the Facebook thread:

...EVERYTHING comes from HIM. He controls all aspects of his tour. Do you really think he would let other people talk for him?

...Anyway....I really don't want to talk about it. I didn't want to talk about it....and I HADN'T fucking talked about it because I am beyond over it and on to the rest of my life.....but, you know....I had to respond to the lies. Ok. Good night all.

...Um.....I will say again. I had moved on. I was happy to move on. It looks like someone else hadn't moved on and decided to bring it up. I have every right to address false public statements made about my health. I can actually do both at the same time! Move on AND correct false statements. IMAGINE.

...Also......stop trying to stifle people from expressing themselves.

...I've about had it with people trying to scare other people.

...Please don't say offensive things about morrissey either. This is not the point.

Jesse Tobias statement (http://true-to-you.net/morrissey_news_140613_01) - true-to-you.net

13 June 2014

It's been quite Disheartening to see the "Facebook" Hatred thrown about by Our Former Friends/ Working Partners Kristeen Young and Tony Visconti.
I do feel that Someone needs to Speak Up for Moz in this situation as it is unbearable to watch people you once trusted , Attack and Pick Away at your Friend.
In my experience ANYONE associated with the Morrissey Camp know they are solely there because of Morrissey himself.
He chooses to tour/ work with certain people.
For Kristeen and Tony Visconti to go on about Her being better off now, without considering Morrissey's 9 years of help and promotion is Very Disappointing.
Only speaking from my experience, with the crew and Moz falling ill in Miami, for Kristeen to deny she was truly sick seems disingenuous.
I was told after the show in Miami by Crew and Security that there was some concern because Kristeen was obviously unwell.
Our crew then tried to keep her at a reasonable distance but being in such close quarters for months these things sometimes happen.
I am Upset that in this situation Kristeen could not take the tour as a whole into consideration and just comply with the postponement announcement.
One could only assume it was necessary for her to justify herself and ultimately receive some promotion out of the matter.
This combined with Tony Visconti's Parrot Like affirmation on "Facebook" that "she is better off, is Morrissey Capable of being handled?" is Repulsive.
This is a MAN who worked closely with us on a record and several sessions that Suddenly flips into Schoolgirl mode with "yeah you tell em" Chatter...??

Good Riddance to False Friends.

This is strange:

Directly from Universalmusic.it -

http://www.universalmusic.it/pop/artista/discografia/?ccidp=31055024424

So basically a 10" is being released - side A with WPINOYB and Istanbul, side B with Earth Is The Loneliest Planet and The Bullfighter Dies... even though The Bullfighter Dies isn't a single. Yet, it has a spoken word video!

Make sense of this, Moz!

Boz Boorer statement (http://true-to-you.net/morrissey_news_140619_01) - true-to-you.net

19 June 2014

I have just returned from 5 days in the mountains of Portugal where I am cut off from the internet. It appears I have missed an awful lot. Search as I have I can only find snippets of Tony Visconti's postings and I am very shocked and disappointed at what I have read and can only wonder why he immediately withdrew the postings with no explanation. Kristeen has been a constant companion on the road for so long and I am also bewildered by her actions also immediately withdrawn from view. I hate to throw wood on an already blazing fire but I am afraid I cannot sit back and watch this slander.

Just received the new (August) issue of Mojo - 'World Peace...' is this month's featured album with an effusive full page 4-star review by Keith Cameron, accompanied by a rather odd illustration by one Dan Craig. Sample quotes: "the most subtle and decorous Morrissey album for many years, possibly since the hallowed Vauxhall And I" "so good you want to stand and cheer".

The feature is also trailed on the front cover with the tag "his best album in 20 years!"

Posted by Detritus:

@Boyafraid1 on Twitter posted a scan (https://twitter.com/boyafraid1/status/480017462948528129) of the review.

"The uncouth chug-rock that has been the post-Vauxhall era's default is absent" is all I needed to read. Bring on this album.

Remember how Tom Jones and Cliff Richard were opening acts for two shows?

Tom Jones did his, but Cliff Richard didn't get to do his since Morrissey got sick. In any case, Cliff held a free gig. At the gig, apparently he said Morrissey is still in hospital.

Now there are rumors over at Morrissey-Solo that he's very ill, and now there is a "prayers for Morrissey" thread.

Great way for things to go right before the record comes out, eh...

Maybe the Queen got really pissed off with that backdrop he used of her at his last gig and she had someone poison him. It's a Royal Conspiracy.

Someone anonymously just posted the lyrics to the new song "Mountjoy" -

>>

The joy brings many things it cannot bring you joy
Sons of mothers huddle here men and boys

1850 swung the doors and human sewage swept
inside where victims speaking wise
and where the hardened cried

I was sent here by a 3 foot half-wit in a wig
I took his insults on the chin, and never did I flinch

A swagger hides the fear in here
by this rude reprieve
and there is no one on this earth
who I’d feel sad to leave

You see we all lose
We all lose

What those in power do to you
reminds us at a glance
How humans hate each others’s guts
And show it given a chance

We never say aloud the things
That we say in our prayers
Cause no one cares

Many executed here
By the awful lawfully good
But the only thing that makes me cry
Is when I see the sky

Brendan Behan laughter rings
for what he had or hadn’t done
because he knew then as I know now
That for each and every one of us
We all lose, rich or poor we all lose”

The album is pretty great, definitely better than Years of Refusal, which is one of my least favorite Moz albums. I may even like it better than Ringleader but I'll have to spend some more time with it before I can decide. I've seen several people say it's his best since Vauxhall, but I don't know how that would be possible when You Are The Quarry is one of his best albums IMO. If you take out YATQ, that statement may be true though.

Yes, I believe so.

The problem with it is two things. The original image was this:

http://www.consequenceofsound.files.wordpress.com/2014/03/morrissey-dog.jpg

Then they photoshopped it to look like that with the motorbike and wall and "spray paint" on it, for whatever reason.

To make things worse, if you look closely (at the photoshopped album cover) to Morrissey's left, the green shrubs are replicas of themselves, a photoshop error. They fixed this up on a magazine ad, but not sure if they've fixed it for the final cover.

Also, the back of the Argentinean one says "Morrisey" on the bottom at the back in fine print, with one "s". All a bit embarrassing really.

After a few listens my favorite track is "Smiler With Knife" at the moment.

I listened to it again today. It's hard to tell if it's packing the same punch that Years of Refusal had when I was REALLY into that record in 2009 but I can tell that it's a solid Moz record. I think "Staircase at the University" and "Kiss Me Alot" are my two personal favorites at the moment.

Mine is One Of Our Own -

Standing at the stone
Of one of our own
He died saving my life
He took the lead
Aimed for my head
Such love shown I'd never known

Give me the gun
I love you
A job half done
Isn't done

Standing at the stone
Of one of our own
He took the plug
And he hit the rug
Such love shown I've never known
Now I don't want to know tomorrow

So, give me the gun
I love you
A job half done
Isn't done

Kneeling at the stone
Of one of our own
He took a round
And he hit the ground
He took the blast
His very last
I have no use for tomorrow

No use for tomorrow
No use for tomorrow
No use for tomorrow
No use for tomorrow
No use for...
No use for...
No use for tomorrow
No use for tomorrow
No...

Bradley Steyn

I cannot admit to actually "knowing" Bradley Steyn. Yes, I am aware that he is South African and that he lives in Los Angeles, and that he has "walked off" three Morrissey tours - which really is his own business, not mine. My personal involvement with him has been zero, and he has certainly never been Head Of Security on any Morrissey tour.
I am aware of the false story he has placed on various news sites wherein he claims I asked him to "hurt" (kill?) David Tseng. Although Steyn's story lends itself to its own ridicule, I feel I must say to those who have not yet worked it out, that the story is a vexatious lie.
It is common knowledge that I dislike the SoLow site, and I am aware that all of the opinions posted on the site are controlled or written by David Tseng, and that David Tseng will give maximum and inexhaustive publicity to anything said in the negative about me. This is a general truth that most people accept about SoLow. It is nothing new, and I have long since learned to accept it.
The very idea that I would ask a complete stranger (Bradley Steyn) to physically attack David Tseng surely cannot register with any sane person as being likely. As mildly irritating as David Tseng may be, he is not someone who troubles me enough to even bother with.
The shabby truth of this drama is that Bradley Steyn has been trying to extract money from what he terms "the Morrissey tour", and he has failed. He is now desperate, and this story is his latest escapade to gain someone's attention. What he is telling the world is that, as a music venue security officer, anyone who works with him in the future should expect the same harassment and persecution as he is now - mysteriously - wielding my way. It is beyond belief, and it is shocking that someone who makes claims of professionalism would lower himself to this level.
Please note that Bradley Steyn's statement is now in the hands of the Los Angeles Police Department, and is subject to both criminal and civil action.

From http://true-to-you.net/

Morrissey statementI am indebted to three sources that have placed their own well-crafted videos on You Tube for the song World peace is none of your business. The three individual sources are named as Sharon Jheeta, Héctor González and wpeace123456. These videos fully understand the intent of the song, and I am relieved that these films exist. Yes, a similar document ought to have been harvested by the record label, but please understand that the pop or rock industry can be as dedicated to perpetuating public deception as the world of politics itself. God bless social media!
Liberty, equality and fraternity are the essence of the song; no monarchic rule, no political hierarchies, no bought-and-paid-for government thugs, security forces no longer beyond prosecution, and an end to megalomania, repression and corruption. Meat consumption is climate change, and if ever there were a self-evident lost cause it is the British so-called "royal family". Societies have never been so nervous; Pan Am Flight 103 differs not a jot from Malaysian Flight 17. The United Nations failure to imprison Tony Blair and George W. Bush for war crimes against Iraq has told us all that there can never be enough bloodshed, and the world is suffering its worst nervous breakdown. Do not feel powerless!
Many apparently powerless causes have succeeded in shifting political stupidity and greed. You are intellectual sanity. It ispossible for nonviolent change; there are more people than there are aging despots; there are more people than there are world leaders. In truth, the world is leaderless. Please stop watching Fox News; anti-monarchial Britain has given up on the BBC – we know that every slot is paid for. We know that the number 1 position on the pop charts is "bought"; this is not 1955.
Thank you to all of my friends in Israel, Chile, Sweden, Poland, Argentina, Hungary, Romania, Finland and Italy who boughtWorld peace is none of your business. It is 30 years on since The Smiths album entered the UK chart at number 2 with zero airplay and zero promotion, and the struggle for the airwaves remains difficult. Yet, I am writing this to you now, and you are reading it.
In answer to many people who have asked, I should like to finally make it clear that I have not received any television invitations – worldwide! – to either discuss World peace is none of your business, or even to sing any songs from the album.
Thank you for reading this. We have our first World peace is none of your business concert booked in Lisbon (Portugal) on October 6th.
All we have is each other.
