Yeah, I’m wondering what that’s about too. The most recent thing they did was for the Bloody Kisses 2018 RSD release (interview with Kenny below). Man, as much as I dig Kenny’s vocals, I just found Seventh Void (and now this upcoming Silvertomb project) just nowhere as good musically as what Sal is doing with APHND. “Last Walk In The Light” by Seventh Void was truly incredible, though (the last track on Heaven Is Gone).

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AW-HZWH_fCw

Don’t get me wrong, though. The one proper song Silvertomb have put out so far, “Insomnia,” is incredible!

Should we make a thread just for APHND?

The new title track is amazing.

Some news about touring which really excites me. TON never toured Austalia. @elevenism (https://www.echoingthesound.org/community/member.php?u=2475) - to have Johnny and Sal here will make a childhood dream almost come true!

From FB: “APHND is proud to join Artery Global Booking Agency Family for Europe, UK, Asia & Australia.”

Erneuert - drip, drip, drip - The new Pale horse record has finally graced the surface of the internet.
I have it downloaded, but no time to listen to it tonight. Will be giving it a spin on my way to work tomorrow.

I’m giving it my first spin now. The intro track is amazingly haunting.

I love how every song is listed as explicit, haha:

Just starting “Fell In My Hole” now and I can already tell this is going to be an instant classic record.

Holy shit, “The Woods”’ is like the even more evil cousin of “Fay Wray Come Out And Play” from Bloody Kisses!

Erneuert

“Dreams Of The End” and “Closure” both totally just kicked my ass. The former is extremely TON-sounding. Also very fond of “Lay With The Wicked”.

My only complaint is that the vocals are very buried in a couple of the songs like “Vultures” and “Splinters”.

”Succumbing To The Event Horizon” is a really eerie interlude that reminds me a lot of Gary Numan’s recent instrumentals.

”Closure” is the audio from a real funeral according to Sal.

Yeah, from Bloody Kisses on I loved looking forward to that next Type O album and I was never disappointed. When I was on their message board back in the day, Josh said there's nothing in the vault left to be released, but I hope he was lying.

Yeah, from Bloody Kisses on I loved looking forward to that next Type O album and I was never disappointed. When I was on their message board back in the day, Josh said there's nothing in the vault left to be released, but I hope he was lying.

The thing that makes me think there is more is from this YouTube comment he made, namely the part where he says he will take such and such to the grave. It’s from the October Rust prerelease mixes video:

Josh NotSilver (https://m.youtube.com/channel/UCAm-NW_0oU-G5iNVv9Kc3vg)
I have not commented on a Youtube video in years, to the point where I forgot my old username and even the email address I used. That said, I signed up once again in order to clarify a couple of things about this video and the music thereof. These are things that have been stated as fact for a matter of record before, but the details-- minor to some, important to me-- have gotten lost somewhere along the line, either by design or by accident.

Here, once again, are the facts about this music and the original source recording:
These October Rust songs are NOT a Promo Version as stated in the title. They are simply pre-master, pre-release mixes that Peter had recordings of in his collection. Obviously, different mix levels were used for various tracks, and it is a great mix to listen to that is a nice change from the album.

These tracks were recorded onto a Maxell Studio MS-60 cassette tape by Peter in his home in Brooklyn. The tape was made not for Elizabeth as stated somewhere here as a response to a question, but for me to give as a Christmas present to my dying wife. She and I were friends of Peter's, and we thanked (and blamed) him, and the band, for our marriage. This tape (and some other rarities which shall with me to my grave), was made to try and bring a bit of peace and happiness to her sad heart in the Christmas season of 1997, as both Peter and I knew it would certainly be her last. This is the same reason he had provided me with the pre-production un-edited VHS tape (and artwork) of the material which would end up being After Dark. Those videos are available for viewing here on Youtube as well now.

The "banter" between Peter and Elizabeth takes place in the confines of the short distance between the kitchen and the "living room"/den area as Peter tried to figure out how to dub the tape. As Andy Witmyer has pointed out here in a reply, there is a sad irony to the prophetic "Sorry" said by Elizabeth. I stated the exact thing, word for word, elsewhere years ago, and if I recall correctly, it was in my Ebay listing for the cassette tape. I'm certainly not going to sue for plagiarism, much like the fact I didn't sue Peter, despite his spiraling drug-fueled paranoias and conspiracies as time went on, for "It's Never Enough" when it was finally released on Least Worst after being cut from World Coming Down due to time limitations. I am not out to make money or to claim any fame, as I am truly to old to care anymore. I would, perhaps, like the courtesy of acknowledgement as to the fact about certain things on the tape...

Pictures Of Matchstick Men was made for Peter's own amusement, nothing more. There was spare time paid for at the studio in Brooklyn after completing the music bed for the song, which was later mailed to L.A. for Ozzy to lay his vocal tracks on. Peter had the studio record his vocs because he liked the original song as done by the band Status Quo. As a matter of note, the cassette tape for this Youtube recording was listed on one side as "Status Quo Type O" on one side, "Type O Diff MIx" on the other, written by Peter. Nothing indicated a "promo version."
Peter made several copies at the time of P.O.M.M. with his vocs, one of which was destroyed later by Elizabeth, one of which went to one of his sisters, and a couple which went to friends.

I'm pleased to see that over 20,000 (holy SHIT!) people have had the chance to enjoy these rarities and variations. It's shocking, in a way, to look back and realize that I used to leave the original cassette in my tape player of the MR2 I had back then (that Peter would never fit in) on hot summer days after Shela died, or pass it around from friend to friend to friends of friends to listen to, sometimes not knowing who had it, for weeks at a time. Thankfully, I got this one back and tucked it away for years in safekeeping in a box of Type O memories before deciding to sell it.
Those of you who hear it now are the lucky ones.

For some of us, luck has run out, and the meaningful parts of life have run their courses.
But memories will remain for as long as the brain allows, though diminishing daily with the cells that wither.............

With sadness, and respect and love to Peter Steele.
I'm glad the music is still here.

Just finished And Hell Will Follow. "Die Alone" is that incredible payoff at the end of the album for those wanting that Type O Negative vibe. The first half is mediocre (I enjoyed "Cracks In The Walls"), but the second half is straight excellent. I enjoyed "Pill Head" through "Die Alone".

Something that struck me, parts of this remind me of Melvins and Monster Magnet (the drug references). You only linked 1 song from the first album, so I'm anxious to dive in further.

If something ain't broken, don't fix it. Sometimes It's best just to honor your fellow musicians by doing the song the way it was intended. I find more often, when a band puts their "own spin" on a cover song, it usually ends in a dumpster fire. So, I'm OK with a like for like version rather than royally fucking it up.

A lot of those NIN cover songs belong in the dumpster... Buckcherry's "Head Like a hole" anyone?

Woah yeah that's a great cover. I wonder what this is for?

Maybe we can hope there's a TON cover album coming out? That would be awesome.
But I have a feeling it was just one of their fav. bands and they're just honoring the late Peter Steele is some way or another.

I remember back in 2003, not long after Life Is Killing Me came out, people were analysing the song’s lyrics, particularly the “fourteen yellow, six are blue” part. Then an interview came out and Peter was like, “that’s one of the easiest songs I’ve written. There’s no special meaning to the lyrics, I wrote them while doing a crap and they rhymed well” or something to that effect, lol.

God I wish footage existed of every video shoot so they could’ve compiled Making Ofs like Rammstein has done for each music video. Especially in the case of I Don’t Wanna Be Me. I can only imagine how much funny B-T-S shit could’ve been (or maybe has been?) recorded from that period. We live in hope.

Does anyone know why the full Christian Woman video is called (Naildriver Version)? Is it referring to Pete being done up like JC in the third act of the song?

Random question: are there any TON fans who listened to a track or two by Carnivore but didn’t give them a proper chance because it was too aggressive or whatever? Been grooving to Dead Again like crazy now that summer is finally over, I hope. What a way to go out. Tripping a Blind Man, She Burned Me Down and especially These Three Things are fucking epic..

I recently (finally) got my hands on this scarce as fuck 2-CD TON bootleg called Brighton Beach Dismemoirs that rounds up all of their rare, alternate and remixed tracks taken directly from the original WAV files, that weren't on albums proper. It's 100% comprehensive (as far as I can tell) and is great to finally have all of their rarity tracks in one place. Sweet note in the artwork from the guy who put the whole thing together for fans, too..

What a way to go out indeed; especially the final lyrics to the record: “All hail and farewell to Britain, all hail and farewell to Thee. All hail and farewell to England, all hail and farewell to me.”

I remember posting on the official TON board right after the album came out and putting crap on the “every time I see her start a fire, I get higher” lyric. I thought it was lame and simple back then. In hindsight, what a heartbreaking fucking song that must have been to pen for him:

Blood - though thicker than water - is harder to clean up
You'll get it in the end, boy, if the weapon of choice is love
Expecting it from a stranger or maybe an acquaintance
Never from family or friends, though
A simple mistake and expense

Would if I could, but I unfortunately don't have a disc drive to rip the files to my computer. Who knew laptops would eschew these kinds of things in 2019..

Alas, there is another copy up for sale on eBay, if one is so inclined. Worth the asking price, I can vouch..

That’s pretty cool but still missing a lot of stuff, like Summer Girl, the extended depression mix of Cinnamon Girl, the recently discovered BK demos and OR early pre-mixes, the Peter vocal version of Pictures Of Matchstick Men, Loud And Queer from the LIKM promo CD, Peter’s solo performance of Go To Sleep, and that’s just off the top of my head, lol. Tons of live cover songs too.

The BK demos can be had on a seperate package (which I also have and can attest to): https://www.ebay.com/itm/TYPE-O-NEGATIVE-Bloody-Kisses-The-Unreleased-Demos-CARNIVORE-DANZIG-SABBATH/113912235513?hash=item1a85b2c5f9:g:MFEAAOSw-0xYNXps

I think the guy who compiled this was going for officially released rarities and extras that could be found on CD singles, comps, etc., which may explain why POMM with Peter on vocals, Go To Sleep and the live covers are absent. Loud and Queer should defo be on there though if it was on a LIKM promo CD. But then, one can never have too many copies of LIKM, because that album fucking bangs..

I have a backup YouTube channel that I upload my own rips to. The auto algorithms really do not like joke bands. I also received a "hate speech" message for "Fuck The Middle East" by Stormtroopers of Doom. Not sure what the deal is; no problem finding Burzum tracks from literal white power compilations. I suppose you can make a hate song but title it "Fluffy Cat" and sneak in under the radar.

Anywho, I have the 2001 reissues. What is the "Race War" demo from?

Incidentally, every now and then my mind is cast back to a thread on the old TON.net message board (god, this brings back memories) (http://web.archive.org/web/20020317223618/http://typeonegative.net/cgi-bin/Ultraboard/UltraBoard.pl?Action=ShowBoard&Board=band01&Idle=&Sort=&Order=&Session=), that posted an image of Peter's handwritten lyrics for "The Subhuman" by Carnivore. I've been trying to find said image for years, but to no avail. I have a feeling that it, or items similar, were featured at the 2017 "Carnivore A.D." shows mentioned here, that I only just found out about now. Had no idea these shows actually happened! -

https://www.blabbermouth.net/news/carnivore-reforms-as-carnivore-a-d/

The show will include an after party with a VIP meet-and-greet available ($40), and feature Kayne spinning danceable heavy tracks by the likes of NINE INCH NAILS, ROB ZOMBIE, THE CULT, RAMMSTEIN, MINISTRY and more. A "Carnivorous Halloween Costume Contest" will take place, with meaty prizes like real live blood from each band member. Rare photographs and "Carnivorous artifacts" (such as Peter Steele's original handwritten CARNIVORE lyrics) will be displayed.

Anyhow, the closest I've been able to find (apart from the handwritten lyrics to "Seven Stars" - a supposed unreleased song intended for the next TON album that never happened - an image of which can be found in the Soul On Fire biography for Pete (https://ibb.co/yQDLJqz)) are these early handwritten lyrics for IYDKMIGTHTKY (Gimme That):

Abso-fuckin’-lutely! Hell, let them both open for Danzig since Johnny drums for all three bands, haha.

Edge Of Existence came out today. I have to say, Kenny really looked at the flaws he had with the Seventh Void record and has released a really excellent album. His vocals definitely have more range now, and nothing sounds overly samey like with Heaven Is Gone (save for Last Walk In The Light, I adore that song).

So True / Not Your Saviour / One Of You are excellent.

”I refuse to believe it’s the end of the line” from Eulogy / Requiem... probably aimed towards Peter’s passing?

Sleeping On Nails And Wine is like a lullaby campfire song lol.

One thing with music and myself is that I never go off and dismiss it. When people listen to stuff, If it connects right away , great. If not, I won’t force it upon myself and let it find me one day.

Another tune, short but sweet, yet no less intriguing, is “Sleeping On Nails And Wine”, which is no less than an Indie Rock type song. Can’t really say that it was a surprise, as with this album it is expect the unexpected. What there is to it with this song? What did it try to reflect?

This is the one song that is directly about Peter. I wanted to capture some part of him-he was too complex a person to capture I any 3-minute song so I just tried to define some of the things he seemed to do over and over again-especially when it came to women and wine. Peter was brilliant but he also tortured himself, hence “sleeping on nails” and then he would attempt to kill the pain with wine.

What do you guys think of this cover band? They don’t have many views and I actually really think they knock these songs off amazingly well. I’m posting them in the order I viewed them. Just watched Christian Woman and LYTD today. Watched Anesthesia a month or two ago.

I’m particularly impressed by the lyrical accuracy and Peter’s little nuances incorporated throughout, while not coming across as cheesy or arrogant (IMO). Their band cover name is World Coming Down. Definitely deserve more recognition, or, at least, views:

It's no where near as as deep and soothing as Peter's voice but they're talented and as passable as a cover band allows you to be. I am not a super big fan of cover bands because it lacks originality because nothing is new, fresh and its all an homage or appearance of an established act.

Musically it was pretty spot on. I'd rather just have Type O Negative be a thing. As always, it's a shame Peter is gone. I wonder what the 2010's decade would've brought for TON music.

If I had to choose between listening to a recording of these guys, or the actual TON versions, I'd pop on the actual versions any day of the week.

"Anesthesia" is a top 10 for me, so that's a high bar... and, the cover is pretty good! As you pointed out, the vocal nuances seem tasteful and within the singer's range. The instrumentation is great, my only "complaint" being it needs more distortion... never enough distortion live.

I would like to see how the vocalist would handle something such as the beginning of "Nettie" or the deep chanting.

Does anyone else kind of have this weird mental idea of LIKM as being the last TON album, despite Dead Again being the final album proper?

For me, I first started following the band when The Least Worst Of came out and was being promoted.

I think the mental notion of LIKM being the last comes down to several factors. The first being the album initially tentatively titled “The Dream Is Dead”. Then there is the final album title of “Life Is Killing Me”. Both titles of finality. Then came the album booklet imagery of the toe tags of each band member, and Pete hilariously writing “sorry to the person who will soon be covering my grave with dirt, I won’t take it personally,” or something to that effect. Then the live 2003 outfits in the green scrubs all the band members wore. Then the fake 2005 death hoax posted on TON.net symbolising the band getting away from Roadrunner Records.

IMO, “Anesthesia” should have been the final track on LIKM.

I actually have my own haunting story to share regarding it. The day before Peter actually passed away, the night before, the final song I listened to before going to bed was “Anesthesia” for no real reason at all. Right before going to sleep I recall turning the volume right up at the end to hear that piano coda clearly and the very faint “I don’t feel... anything... anything... anything. Anything.” I wake up the next morning and he literally doesn’t feel anything; I see Juliya’s tweet about his passing.

It was like my Elvis or Lennon dying that day. Very strange how I listened to that at that time.

I wish thy had more affordable pressings of their albums. I'd love to own them. I only ever managed to find Bloody Kisses in person. I was $35.00 at FYE. I regret not grabbing it when I seen it.

I regret not grabbing it when I seen it.I have an extra copy of Bloody Kisses (3LP RSD version) and World Coming Down. Let me know if you’re interested. On another note, I just ordered a sealed copy of Bloody Kisses 1993 2LP pressing, shipping from Belgium. Don’t ask how much I paid. I just felt this was a chance to own a real piece of history from one of the greatest albums / bands of my generation. Now the wait begins...
Or not...just got an order cancellation request from seller, wrong item listed, repress not original. Bummer.

Type O wrote this theme for the WWE's Kane in 2002. And Vince McMahon chose to go with a fucking Finger Eleven song instead of this, to coincide with the character's booking into oblivion as a comedy act. Imagine Kane as a monster heel, coming out to this theme... Hell, you don't need to imagine it. It's perfect, whereas I think the Finger Eleven song gradually helped to ruin the gimmick.

It’s so good to see TON.net back up... and that merch! Peter always put a lot of thought into those shirts and whatnot (amazing puns, themes and phrases). Hell, TON merch can even be considered an artform of its own compared to most bands. I wonder who came up with some of these seemingly new ones?

What is this promo mix of which you speak?

This one: https://www.discogs.com/Type-O-Negative-Life-Is-Killing-Me/release/1316362

Different track listing.

Every song is audio watermarked but we edited it so that it flows uninterrupted.

Differences I can think of off the top of my head (click view more images on the discogs page; the alternate track listing was even printed on the promo CD)

- First track had the title “Uncle Freddy Died?”
- “Drunk In Paris” was called “Loud And Queer” and sounded extremely different
- The “snot and cum, piss and shit” part of Less Than Zero had a vocal effect put over it making it sound different... and better IMO
- Different intro on “(We Were) Electrocute”
- Different mix of “The Dream Is Dead” - this is the version Josh posted online in unmastered form in response to the album leaking and being pissed off about it
- No extended ending on “I Don’t Wanna Be Me”

and there are more I can’t think of.

Q: How do you all listen to Bloody Kisses? Original version straight through, with or without interludes, Digipak version?

I prefer it sans interludes, which may be blasphemous, but to me they break up too many amazing songs. I had shuffled things around like so and used the orignal Summer Girl and the alt, much-better-IMO mix of Blood & Fire:

Christian Woman
Black No. 1
Kill All The White People
Summer Girl (promo version)
Set Me On Fire
We Hate Everyone
Bloody Kisses (A Death In The Family)
Too Late: Frozen
Blood & Fire (Out of the Ashes mix)
Suspended In Dusk
Can't Lose You

In response to the leak, the band has decided to post one of the leaked tracks - better from us than somewhere illegal. Also included is Josh's response to all of this.
the dream is dead (https://web.archive.org/web/20031218181009/http://typeonegative.net/likm/dream.html)

...edit: I wonder what “I Need Love” was?

Song Titles - The Dream Is Dead posted 1.28.03
Our continous poking and prodding produced some final-esque song titles (not in sequence) from Josh:
A Dish Better Served Cold (formerly Truth Decay)
NettieElectro-cute
I Like Girls
Valentine's Day (source of album title)I Don't Want to Be MeAnesthesia
Angry Inch (cover from Hedwig and the Angry Inch)
Above All Things
Life is Killing Me
Two demo songs (I Need Love and Why Won't You Love Me) will be included, just don't have official titles yet. Look to have one more track added to the final sequence for a total of...13. As always, remember this is Type O and things could change...

To consider that, I re-listened to them today, and I don't think so due to the general audio quality and it being obvious in spots they're works in progress. They're great to listen to but quite a few are very, very rough and they'd feel very tacked on. And being honest, at just over 10 minutes I find that Scream (Because I Can’t) kinda drags. Suspended In Dusk was juuuuust enough. :)

The ? promo (still need that plz help) version of Summer Girl though is pretty well a finished work; they were done until Seals & Crofts objected to the subject matter and so Pete just re-did the vocals if I remember right.

Something that's always bothered me, but, obviously there's the alternate version of Summer Breeze (Summer Girl). However, back in the day, I had the soundtrack to I Know What You Did Last Summer, which I got from a friend, because I noticed the version of Summer Breeze on that album was different from the BK version. There's no effect on Pete's vocals. They're just raw. Was this just an unfinished mix, and was it ever available anywhere else?

That's it. I never got any of the BK re-releases, aside from the digipack, so I'd never heard the Rick Rubin Mix. Technically, I had, but you know what I mean.

As for how I listen to BK, I usually just listen to the album as originally released, interludes and all. Though, I usually skip Machine Screw. SID gets tacked onto the end. Blood & Fire (Out of the Ashes Mix) usually get a spin when I want to listen to the song outside of an album listen. I like both versions, but AotA Mix probably takes a slight edge over the original.

I was a casual listener of Type O up until getting October Rust for Christmas in '96. My favourite band has always been NIN, with a few artists sorta switching around for the remaining slots in my top five. Around that time, Type O was holding pretty firm to the number two spot. I remember walking into K-Mart, of all places, on September 21, 1999, and walking out with The Fragile, World Coming Down and To Venus and Back. That was a good day for music.

I actually think I'd have gotten into Type O waaay sooner had it not been for TF coming out. At that point I knew them from the Mortal Kombat and Private parts soundtracks, but 1996-roughly 2001 was straight up NIN, Manson, KMFDM and Pumpkins on constant rotation for me.

A friend of mine gave me a burned World Coming Down CD-R shortly after release because he was apeshit over them, but it wasn't until maybe 2004 or so I started giving it serious listens, and not until maybe 2007 when I made the whole plunge into the discography. Like SP, I appreciate them way more now than I did during the heyday, sadly.

Hello friends, I need some advice. I remember listening to Bloody Kisses and October Rust way back in the day when they came out but I never kept up with the band. Streamed them both last night and absolutely loved them.

I'm looking to purchase the discography and want to get the most bang for my buck. I see there's a Roadrunner collection on iTunes that has everything but Dead Again, which doesn't appear to be on iTunes at all. Should I just buy that and then find Dead Again elsewhere? It looks like the Roadrunner thing doesn't have any remastered versions or bonus tracks. Just looking to be pointed in the right direction so I can inject as much of this band as possible directly into my veins.

Edit: Dug into it some more and answered my own question I guess, not gonna do the Roadrunner collection. Just gotta find Dead Again somewhere.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vuPQ0tk70n0 (https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=vuPQ0tk70n0)

I’m then randomly watching this clip. Skip to the 00:25 mark:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aAijaMl-aqY (https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=aAijaMl-aqY)

Someone in the comments then linked it to this:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q4V2BbspeXc (https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=q4V2BbspeXc)

So, after all these years wondering what the hell that was in that song made by 4 guys from Brooklyn, it ends up being chanting from Aboriginals from my own country.

How. Fucking. Ironic. Can. You. Get.

Can anyone make out the words being said under all those layers a bit later on?

edit: some insight from someone on another video for 3.0.I.F.:

I always interpreted this one like a person going out motorcycle riding ( 00:00 ) and then an accident is bound to happen. But then the person's sixth sense (or whatever) kicks in and he/she is - kinda - warned that he/she shouldn't go on ( 00:13 ). But the person is like "fuck that shit" and just hits the gas ( 01:20 ). So, that thing where the person sees his/her life flashing before his/her eyes happen ( 01:23 ). Finally, we get back to the person ( 01:50 ) and the accident happens. I've had this interpretation since I was a teenager and this thing always freaked me out to the point of keeping me up at night.

Isn't the song supposed to reference the whole "Paul from the Beatles is Dead" story? at least the title.
But supposedly the real McCartney "died" in a car accident, so i guess the Motorcycle is a reference to Pete "dying" in a fake crash.

Just the way i always interpreted that song/skit

Yeah, you’re absolutely right. You can also hear Peter say “I am Jesus Christ” at one point. But I’m referring to the people speaking almost in whispers right after the aboriginal chanting. Does anyone have an ear to transcribe anything that’s being said? It sounds like both male and female voices/whispers. Then eventually you hear “negative, negative, negative” being repeated, perhaps by paramedics? Josh really must have been on some drugs when he made this soundscape.

HAHAHA

It’s made me feel uneasy since I was a 13. Kind of the same way “Cesaro Summability” by Tool makes me uncomfortable, but this one is the worse of the two.

It makes me wish those soundscapes that Josh made and had on his MySpace page got saved/archived somewhere. Remember that one he had up (not used on any album) related to 9/11? It starts off with Muslim chanting, then the whole panic and plane crash thing. That one was truly disturbing as well.

wow, that sounds sick/cool!

"3.0.I.F." mostly trips me up badly, if i'm in a bad day it could fuck me up, lol

I never had an issue with any TOOL tracks (well, "Disgustipated" annoys me, but that's it...), but i used to piss myself with Marylin Manson's "Track 99" (Empty Sounds of Hate), now it's cute and all...

Sigh, this thread hits hard.
Peter had to leave this world way too soon and I will always wonder what we would've gotten from him if he was still around. More nudes? Brilliant music? Sharp tongued interviews that would have made me smile? Or would the music and everything have changed completely with his change of faith, sobriety etc.?
At least I made it to some live shows. I hate it when they go too soon.

At least I made it to some live shows. I hate it when they go too soon.

I’ve detailed my story many times but I’ll say it again because I still find it so disturbing.

In April 2010 I was still doing shift work at my university library. It was the night before a usual shift the next day, and that evening, right before I went to bed, the last song I listened to on my PC, for whatever reason, was Anesthesia. Again, for some unknown reason, I decided to turn it up full blast right at the end when you can hear the faint piano outro and Peter whispering “I don’t feel… anything. Anything. Anything. Any-thing.” A premonition? This was the band that “got me into” music with the song Wolf Moon when I was around 12 years old. The next morning I do my usual morning routine and read Juliya’s tweet about Peter’s passing. It was like my John Lennon dying. I couldn’t focus at all that following day.

But seriously, what are the odds of me coincidentally choosing that song as the last thing I listen to before sleeping, especially pumping up those final words at the ending? I can’t remember if I was feeling especially depressed to do it or what, but it happened. It was almost like he was telling me what was about to happen. I still look back at it in awe to this day.

Being in Australia, they didn’t ever tour here, so I never had the privilege of a live show. Peter’s personality and interests so mirrored my own that I am eternally saddened that I know our brains will never get the chance to cross.

Oh well, maybe I’ll meet Till one day.

Yeah, it is creepy. Not a believer in fate, though. I think things like these and life in general are usally a twisted, fucked up series of coincidences and if you take all the Type O fans around the world blasting their music on any random night, someone must end up listening to this specific song at this specific given time, which sadly happened to be right before Peter's passing. In this case it was you. If it cheers you up: congratulations on being the statistical confidence?
It's just like our brain is wired the way that negative emotions enhance our memory more than positive emotions. Ask a person what they were doing on 9/11, on the day their parents died or whatever, and ask them what they were doing on the day of their Xth birtday or their child's day of birth. You'll surely get interesting answers in terms of details.

Since that album was all basically Carnivore leftovers, I’ll add:

The pain, it only gets worse
The pain, it only get worse
Give up, 'cause there is no hope
Life is hell when you can't cope

Somebody, somebody kill me
Somebody put me out of my misery

Inner conflict

I think I'm losing my fucking mind

Large two-inch maggots decorate my vomit
Infected eyes oozing pus
Acknowledge the stench of human excrement
Swamps of mucus prevalent
Every hole in my body drips blood

TON never made an album that was anything less than great, but Dead Again is my favorite. There's something about that album..its sound, its subject matter, its mesmerizing artwork, the amazing riffs they came up with..that sets that album apart from the others for me..

That one song on there that's like 15 minutes long..These Three Things

Of a land, land that shuns the son
So alien call it area 5-1
Should there be failure to convert Zion?
What came as a lamb returning as a lion

Not a nation, but a self-proclaimed state
Since the year of our lord 1-9-4-8
The road to redemption leads to through deserts
Rocky though the trip through is well worth it

I am the duel of the fisherman Simon
He brought alpha, omega, yes I'm the one
The twins fell beginning Armageddon
So the whore too who dwelleth in Babylon

Amazing..

This is why I don't collect..
I listen to music all digital these days anyways and let's face it, people don't unwrap these items and put them on a record player - they are for storing away. Display at best. I mean, these guys on discogs drive me insane. Is it mint? Is it really? I think I might see a 3 micrometer hairline fracture at the right upper corner of the sleeve! I need more pictures!

These kind of records were great when people still listened to them like they were supposed to. No skipping songs, no constant rewind or fast forward. Listen to a piece of art like you were supposed to, like intended. In underground metal they are heavily going back to shitty tapes which is also fun.
Today it's all iTunes singles bullshit. Do people into mainstream music even buy a complete album, or just the 3 songs they heard on the radio?

Prettybrokenspiral
06-28-2021, 10:29 AM
Not everyone just stores and displays their vinyl. I have over a thousand records (and counting) and I listen to each and every one of them, or at least intend to as time permits. It's all about the multimedia aspect of it, for me: the physicality, poring over the artwork, having a substantial physical product for my money, paying strict attention to the music that is playing in the moment. I was doing all of this long before Trent's vinyl mission statement. That's why it's never bothered me..

While the record store aspect is pretty much dead and gone, I still love scouring the vinyl pre-order pages on Amazon, SRC Vinyl and others to see what's coming out, and hunting down original pressings of albums online, at record fairs, etc.

Anyway..I already have October Rust on vinyl by way of the None More Negative boxset Run Out Groove released a few years back. That was a glorious day. I remembering putting away at least two bottles of red wine while I played those albums in succession. No skipping songs, no tuning out, no bullshit. The way music is meant to be experienced..

shade
06-28-2021, 11:09 PM
I don't even know TR's vinyl statement. But I can assume where that headed.

But then you're doing it like supposed, that's what I meant - play it, no skipping etc. Check out cover and booklets, and just discover a record. I like it when I still notice new things like 10 years after I had that record in my hands for the first time.
The internet has unfortunately ruined record stores. And hidden treasures in any thrift store, that's rare these days. Thanks to the WWW everyone knows what they have.
I'm just sick of the discogs collector crowd wailing on everything.

I'm just sick of the discogs collector crowd wailing on everything.

lol you and me both. Every release is a new (but ultimately same) bitchfest over there. I remember when the Run Out Groove Bloody Kisses RSD vinyl came out in November 2019 and there was a huge fight in the comments about whether it sounded better than that abysmal Music On Vinyl BK that had appeared months earlier. Names were called. Penises were measured. Tempers were flared. Like, really? Who has the time..?

shade
06-29-2021, 01:00 PM
Yeah, okay, I read the statement and am not surprised. Same here though, and I think for most underground music you don't need such a statement. Like said it's also funny how the tape market is exploding again. But those are too dirty, rough and primitive for two picky, obsessed detail-oriented sound engineers like AR/TR. They'll stick to vinyl :)

Vinyl trading has become a huge trend again. But I think most people don't really listen to those records, it's really just the collection thing. And Discogs has become epicenter for nerds, crybabies and also scammers.

Anyway, I digress. Kenny put out “Heaven Is Gone” with his own band Seventh Void in 2007, then he jumped ship and started another new band called Silvertomb (with Johnny on drums for both bands).

The second last song on the record, “Sleeping On Nails And Wine,” was written about Peter if anyone is interested/hasn’t heard it. In fact all of the album “Edge Of Existence” seems to reference Peter in one way or another:

Going back to our 3.0.I.F. discussion, some interesting notes here including who some of the voices are (one being Bonnie Weiss, Kenny’s eventual wife):

https://typeonegative.fandom.com/wiki/3.0.I.F.

Apparently Sal did the creepy “BLEH” voice on Glass Walls of Limbo (Dance Mix) as well.

"3.0.I.F." is a song by Type O Negative (https://typeonegative.fandom.com/wiki/Type_O_Negative), included on the third album Bloody Kisses (https://typeonegative.fandom.com/wiki/Bloody_Kisses), released in 1993. The interlude begins with a motorcycle accelerating to high speed then gives way to womanly choirs over the slow percussion rhythm, then a motorcycle crash, followed by a low-pitch electric humming sound of catastrophe with people talking on top with emergency caller, and ends with an oncoming vehicle, a truck horn and followup crash.
The track title means "30 if", referring that Peter Steele (https://typeonegative.fandom.com/wiki/Peter_Steele) would've been 30 if he hadn't died in the motorcycle accident (in reality he didn't die in that crash and he lived till 48). The title and the sound of motorcycle in it was inspired from a license plate on the car on the album cover of
Abbey Road (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abbey_Road)by
the Beatles (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/the_Beatles)which reads "28IF".

@Jon (https://www.echoingthesound.org/community/member.php?u=457) - you’re my last hope. I still, STILL, after all these years cannot locate the creepy 9/11 soundscape Josh created and had available to listen to on his MySpace page. Do you have that archived anywhere? It starts off with the Islamic prayer and then all the catastrophe and panic of the attack playing out. Maybe someone on a FB group has it?

I'm digging for ya. You're talking about "Untitled 1A" from JoshSilver.com?

Is it my bad memory or did he do another one as well as that?

Love these old vintage clips:

There were 2 tracks, "Untitled 1A" which was first shared on his official website in 2003, as confirmed by this article:

http://www.knac.com/article.asp?ArticleID=2410

Original, non-working: http://www.joshsilver.com/mp3/Untitled 1A.mp3

There was also "Jewdayica", which was only ever shared on MySpace:

https://myspace.com/joshsilver/music/songs

From what I understand, all of the old music from MySpace got destroyed when they switched over to HTML5. If you try to download either of the tracks now you'll notice you can't, but you'll also notice they're m4a instead of mp3. This is looking like a holy grail, hoss. I've been on eMule, SoulSeek, SoulSeekQT, and started to look through DC++, all to no avail.

Well fuck me! What did the Jewdayica one sound like?

Hmm… probably the only way is to contact Johnny directly through Facebook (or possibly even Sal?) and ask them to ask Josh for the files.

Any results if you look them up on SoulSeek?

I've tried "Josh Silver", "joshsilver", "Type O Negative", "TON", and "Jew" (as is labeled on myspace) everywhere I've checked.

Tried "soundscape", "unreleased", "misc", "miscellaneous", "myspace", "rare", "untitled", "untitled 1a", "1a".

Basically I've tried every combination of things from the first and second list.

EDIT: I've also briefly glanced through search results from yandex, duckduckgo, and yahoo.

Looks like we need to reach out to official sources. I thought someone would have had it archived! Both of them. Interesting that he had actually intended on having that soundscape on LIKM.

Is this comment accurate or is he pulling it out of his ass? I don’t remember it?

Joseph Kennedyawesome job! one of my favorite tracks from Type O. There is a 12 minute version of it before it was cut for the album that I have lost which is incredible too. Great job thank you for sharing.

Not sure, but i would love to listen the 12 minute version, it's one of my favorite Type O tracks!

Nice, i tried to listen to the wispers but ...nothing!

As a side note: I'll say that "Dark Side of the Womb" is someone having sex with a pregnant woman. (not hard to guess...)

Ok, Jon I emailed Sal and his previous graphic designer Sam Shearon about the soundscapes. Let’s see what happens.

When you reverse the audio, you get someone with a French accent that says, "You like to play your albums backwards". The next part sounds reversed (so, proper), and I can't make it out when the audio is played normally, but it's probably "You like to play your albums forwards".

Sure thing, after everyone goes to bed. I already roughly clipped the "quiet section" in full (with extra on the beginning and end), so here's that for now on MEGA:
