Glen made an ass of himself during Fun Fun Fun Fest in Austin. Here's a post from the founder of the festival on his childish behavior:

Hi. I book the fest. Those that are hating could NOT be more wrong. Yes, someone has your money and ripped you off. His name is Glenn. Stop by his house in LA with some kitty litter in trade for your refund, but we still had to pay him and he didn't deserve it after what he pulled. Here is how it went down...check the timeline:
-glenn flies in this morning and says he has a cold and doesn't want feel like playing the show. he demands french onion soup and vitamins brought to his hotel suite. he wants to soup now and wants it hot. we get it.
-glenn says it's freezing in austin and he can't go on. says it's going to be 28 degrees tonight and he won't perform (keep in mind, it's currently 71 and sunny with a night forecast of maybe 50+). he says we have to move the show/festival inside if we want him to play (obviously, that's not possible).
-we rent stage heaters (no other bands, public enemy, mcd, passion pit, etc need or want heaters on stage...it's warm up there and not cold out) for glenn per demand, as well as bring in an onsite doctor to make him happy and be there if his cold doesn't go away.
-agents and managers assure us he's going to play now.
-glenn's band/crew arrive before him in the afternoon and load gear. they said it all works, they get up the danzig banner, check lights, are happy.
-glenn arrives at 7:45 (half hour before showtime, they go on at 8:15 exactly and have a 90 min set...park curfew by the city/police is 10pm sharp)...when he arrives, he says he's not going to play. says he doesn't like how the banners are hung on stage and doesn't like the lighting or stage size (all this was advanced in email and phone well in advance and the band/crew loaded in mid day and were happy with it and said it would work...stage wasn't small at all). he wouldn't leave his trailer to go look at the stage, though, so the lighting company drew up specs for him to look at of the stage lighting 50 feet from his trailer and brought it to him to look over and prove him wrong.
-in the meantime, glenn's bodyguard gets pushy (literally) with murder city devils manager and tells them they can't have their friends watch MCD from stage and wants them to cut their set. kicks them off stage and gets physical with the band and stafff....oh, also danzig says he's just as big as slayer and slayer is playing a bigger stage on sunday and that's bullshit and wants to play the same stage slayer is playing...or won't play. makes him look bad.
-it's now 8:15 and time for them to go on. the band is ready, corpse make ups done, guitars tunes. glenn says he's not playing and that it's too cold outside. he said big stages should have windscreen so wind can't blow on him from the side. the stage managers then goes and gets tarps and tarp the entire side of the stage so now wind will hit him.
-it's now 8:40. we explain that it's cutting into the set and he's going to have cut the 90 min set if he doesn't play soon, as park curfew is 10. he says he doesn't feel like playing. says "i got a deathbug. if i go on stage and get sick, i'll die. i'm not getting sicker for this show" (NOTE: he totally looks and seems fine...no coughing, no paleness, no vomiting, just some balding and a gut, from what i can tell). we get the Dr and he says he can do a b12 shot or anything he needs if he feels bad...danzig says he only treats illnesses naturally, so won't do that. we finally get him to agree to play and have already informed his crew that it's only 60 mins (9pm at this point) and they start cutting some songs from the set list, so they can still do misfits, but obviously didn't cut enough.
-they went on almost and hour late due to the HANDS DOWN biggest rock star moment we've ever dealt with and then he tries to start a riot and blames the fest, the city, the cops and everyone, but himself. goes backstage and tries to fight a few ppl and get in the van and leaves.
the end....
we're bummed too. we wanted to hear Skulls.

Ted Leo played two nights later and with about five minutes left in his set he put on a Danzig Misfits wig and broke into "Where Eagles Dare", "Skulls", and "Angelfuck", and proceeded to apologize to the fans in character as Danzig. It was the best thing I'd ever seen

I only like 3 songs off Blackacidevil (Sacrifice, Come to Silver and Deeper) really. With that album he did too much industrial experimentation and ended up covering his voice up the most out of everything. To me, his band has always been about and will always be about his voice but when it's covered up by beats and soundscapes I'm not a fan.

As for the albums that follow, 6:66 and I, Luciferi are great 6:66 is a perfect mix between 90's sludge and his classic sound to me and it makes for a great listen. Check out Thirteen, Satan's Child, Five Finger Crawl, Belly of the Beast, Lilin and Cold Eternal. I think I named the whole album almost there, whoops.

I, Luciferi reminds me of Rob Zombie but with Danzig, it's a weird description but that's how I feel about it.

On topic, this is my favorite song out of everything and it has excellent performances. Check out this monster:

Cheers now i know where to restart, i'll order 6:66, since i already own Blackacidevil the only song i like it's "Come To Silver" mostly because Jerry Cantrell's guitar. By the way i heard that back in the late 90's, Glenn was planning a "Dark blues" record with Cantrell i don't know what happened but i think it would be awesome if he revives that project.

I Luciferi is my favorite record from beginning to end (aside from Wicked Pussycat), and Deth Red Sabaoth is his best stuff since Lucifuge.

I only don't really care for two Danzig tracks: Wicked Pussycat and Don't Be Afraid (b-side to Sacrifice).

The new track is streaming on danzig-verotik.com now.

6:66 is amazing, as is Circle of Snakes. Can't fault either of 'em.

Now if only the Samhain albums could get a vinyl repressing! I understand why there hasn't been repressings of Danzig's solo albums since those are owned by American and there's tons of red tape there, but who owns the rights to Samhain's albums, recordings? Why wouldn't he repress them at least in limited quantities...I mean, even if you made it limited to 1,000 it would probably sell out in a day...

Interview with London May about upcoming Samhain shows -

Of note:

KW: Is there a chance or has there been any talk of new Samhain material being written for a record?
LM: Nothing new yet, but Glenn has talked about releasing an Initium outtake called “The Urge,” which is part one of a trilogy of songs including “The Shift” and “The Howl”. He had mentioned the song way back in the old days, but I wasn’t sure it really existed. Well, it does and I’m excited to finally hear it.

EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW: London May talks about Samhain

http://commdiginews.wpengine.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/08/LondonMay.jpg Photo: Dvl Man

LOS ANGELES, August 29, 2014 — Samhain is the punk band that Glenn Danzig formed in between the Misfits and his current band, Danzig. Originally a side project with Eerie Von, Samhain become the focus of Glenn Danzig after the Misfits broke up. Over the years, Samhain went through various lineup changes with Danzig and Von the only real constant members since the band’s formation. Eventually, Danzig would drop the Samhain moniker and go with his last name, Danzig.
The band reunited in 1999 and has done various tours since then, most notably the Danzig Legacy shows. Samhain will embark on a U.S. tour this fall with Danzig, London May, Steve Zing, and Peter Adams on guitar. May, who was Samhain’s drummer from 1985 to 1987 and played on the November-Coming-Fire album, took some time to speak with Wells On Music regarding his time in Samhain and also the upcoming Samhain tour on which he will be alternating with Steve Zing on drums and bass.
Scroll below the video to read the interview.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fGv6Ny7luew

KW: How did you first come to join Samhain?

LM: Did you ever see that movie “Rock Star” with Mark Wahlberg? It was just like that. I was a 17-year-old fan boy who got a chance to join his favorite band. I had just graduated high school and blown off college to play music. Next thing I knew I was on a train to New York with a little suitcase and a big dream. I’m glad it worked out.

KW: What was your first impression of Danzig after first meeting him?
LM: I first met Glenn with the Misfits in 1982. I had him sign some stuff for me and he was cool. Later on I found him to be 75% funny and 25% terrifying.
KW: What were the writing and recording sessions like with Samhain?
LM: It was very brief during the November-Coming-Fire era. Glenn wrote every part to every song and would show us all an arrangement in the morning and we would record it that afternoon. It was nerve wracking since we were on a tight budget and Glenn was pretty demanding. I was also very green as a drummer, so I had to hustle to keep up the best I could. Thankfully, we spent more time working on the Samhain IV sessions. Glenn was playing guitar at the time so we would jam a bit more before we recorded. Still I was always a bit slow to catch on with the precise drum parts he wrote, so occasionally he used a drum machine to save time/money in the studio. He always recorded his vocals last. So, in his head all the music/arrangements made perfect sense, but to me the material was frequently confusing until I finally heard him sing over it.
KW: Why did you and Samhain eventually part ways?
LM: Besides some ever present personal friction between me and Glenn, Rick Rubin simply wanted a different drummer. Chuck Biscuits was one of Glenn’s faves so they tracked him down. It was actually quite a compliment. Like if your girlfriend breaks up with you to be with George Clooney.
KW: Obviously, any bad blood has been forgotten since you are back with the band, but at the time was there any bad blood between you and Danzig?
READ ALSO: EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW: Ex-Misfits guitar player Doyle
(http://www.commdiginews.com/entertainment/exclusive-interview-ex-misfits-guitar-player-doyle-4077/)
LM: Yes, even though I was kinda stoked that Chuck was my replacement (he was always a huge inspiration), I wasn’t too happy with the whole situation. There was some legal stuff with Glenn that had to be sorted and that caused a bad rift with everyone for years. But even though I was frozen out I still loved the band and secretly went to see them every chance I had.
KW: Why do you think Samhain gets the red-headed step child treatment from the general public. By that I mean that Samhain is the least known Danzig band, but is just as good as any other one. It doesn’t seem like Samhain gets the credit it deserves. A lot of people I think should know about it for some reason just don’t and I always find that odd.
LM: Firstly, I feel Samhain was never destined to be a mainstream band. Too gloomy, too tribal, too raw. That’s why there was such huge changes when the band finally morphed into Danzig. Considering that Samhain was never on a major label, never had a hit song or video, never had a mass market T shirt AND our records have been out of print for almost 15 years, I’m happy that we still get the minor acclaim that we do! The songs are timeless and we have earned our cult status and our fan’s respect, but there’s really not a lot there to keep the casual music consumer interested in for long. We were never blinded by the bright light of commercialism but instead we lurked in the darkness. Maybe that’s why some discerning folks are still so passionate about us. Thank you to our loyal and die-hard fans!
KW: How did the ball get rolling for you to be involved in the Danzig Legacy shows?
LM: Glenn and I have been on good terms for the past few years and he asked me if I was up for it. I thought a Misfits, Samhain, and Danzig show was an amazing idea and I said hell yes!
KW: Danzig has a pretty serious-type of “Don’t mess with me” reputation. Do any of you guys ever try to mess with him on tour? Or does he ever try to pull any practical jokes on you guys?
LM: Back in the day, I was hell bent on driving Glenn nuts. I was such a teenage trouble maker and his intense temperament was impossible to resist. I was always up to some stupid s**t and then I would deny it. I’m lucky I never got smacked. I know better now! Glenn likes to joke around a lot and tease, so you gotta have thick skin if you wanna hang. His most major prank back at me (and well deserved after years of me dishing it out) was to have a huge bucket of fake blood poured on me “Carrie” style while I was playing the final song of the 1999 tour. If those gallons of red sticky sugar water weren’t a surprise enough, the roadies followed it up with a bag of feathers. It was fucking gross and my drums and I were drenched in it, but to my credit I finished the song!

Glenn Danzig talks 2014 Housecore Horror Fest, and new music plans for 2015

Rocker Glenn Danzig (http://www.examiner.com/topic/glenn-danzig) was friendly and in good spirits while discussing his upcoming performance at this year’s Housecore Horror Film Festival in Austin, TX: (http://housecorehorrorfilmfestival.com) “Well Phil (Anselmo, Pantera vocalist and festival co-founder) had asked me to come for a while, and we were available to do it this year and it's pretty cool. I like what Phil's doing.”

The event, (which runs October 23-26, 2014 at Emo’s and Midways) celebrates the best in heavy metal and horror movies. He’s well-versed in both genres, and his pioneering use of horror imagery in music makes the argument that an event like Housecore might not exist without his influence.

That dark thread begins with 70’s punk band The Misfits, his 80’s deathrock group Samhain and continues with his solo career that’s covered 9 studio albums and counting: “I’ve always liked horror movies: whether its monster movies or dark murder movies. So as I developed and read more and experienced more…it's just gone on from there exponentially…the more you know about it the more you have to write about it.”

He’ll perform at Emo’s on Sunday, with a diverse set that will thrill diehard fans: “They asked if we could do a Samhain set and a Danzig (http://www.examiner.com/topic/danzig) set…so I'm glad it worked out.”

Regarding Samhain, he’s been excited by the reception at recent shows like Chicago’s Riot Fest (http://chicago.riotfest.org/band/samhain). "The shows have been pretty wild; people knew every word of every Samhain song and I was shocked…it's been very cool.”

On the horror movie front, he’s still working on his long-in-development directorial debut “Ge Rouge (http://www.sfbg.com/noise/2012/05/24/danzig-doyle-his-fans-verotik-and-metallica-anniversary)” (based on the comic of the same name from his Verotik line). “We’re still doing it. It's just in Hollywood you go from producer to producer…but it looks like it's actually really going to happen this time…and we asked the Soska sisters to direct a Verotika pic and they reacted very favorably to it.”

He’s also a big fan of "The Walking Dead (http://www.amctv.com/shows/the-walking-dead)" and has written a song to be used on a future episode and soundtrack. He even hinted he may appear on wrap-up show “The Talking Dead.”

But his main focus remains music, and he’s keeping busy. A new studio album is set for a fall 2015 release, and his long awaited covers album is due in March. Plus he’s working on an EP of Elvis covers (http://consequenceofsound.net/2014/08/danzig-is-recording-an-album-of-elvis-presley-covers/).

Given all the musical genres he’s covered, is there any other sonic terrain he’s interested in exploring? “No, probably “Danzig Sings Elvis” will be about it!” he laughs. “I'm pretty lucky in that a long time ago I started my own label. So I can just put out stuff when I want as long as I have a good distributor and no one can kick me off my own label!” he says chuckling. “So I make sure that it sounds like what people expect Danzig to sound like and hopefully they'll like the product when it comes out. That's really all that I do.”

Any final words on Housecore? "I'm assuming that I'm talking to most of the people that are going to be in the area…if it's what you're into, you should definitely come out and support what Phil's doing cause it really cool and it'd be great if it keeps happening every year and gets bigger and bigger.”

More stuff here:

http://smellslikeinfinitesadness.com/glenn-danzig-interview-housecore-samhain-and-a-busy-2015/

SLIS: Speaking of: Do you have any plans on remastering or reissuing the Samhain albums in the near future?

GD: I wouldn’t remaster them, but we’ll see if we re-release them not. Some bootleg company in Europe released them awhile ago and we’re trying to shut them down. So hopefully we’ll reissue some stuff in the future.

SLIS: You’ve been working on the Danzig Sings Elvis EP. Any idea of when that will be released?

GD: Yeah I’m working on that right now. We’re halfway done with it. It’s just gonna be an EP like 7 or 8 songs. And once all this stuff is done…I’m probably gonna go back in the studio and start working on a new Danzig record too. So there’s a lot of stuff in the pipeline now that’s ready to get released.

SLIS: You’ve also been working on a covers album of various artists; last year you released a Nancy Sinatra cover with Cherie Currie (Runaways). Will that still see the light of day in a different release?

GD: The cover record is hopefully gonna come around March 2015, and then it’ll be followed later by the new Danzig record next fall. And then the Danzig Elvis EP, I’m not sure when that’s coming out since I’m not done with it yet…but we’ll see.

SLIS: So this month Danzig 4p turned 20. That’s always been my favorite album of yours, and an underrated one at that. Will you be doing any special anniversary reissues, or adding more songs from that album to your set list this year?

GD: Well we’re talking to (producer) Rick (Rubin) and his label about doing some special stuff. We’ll see. Cause trying to get Rick to pay attention to his label is just really hard these days (laughing). But there’s a guy over there who’s really cool so we’ve talked to him so we’ll see how it all progresses.

SLIS: When you look back on that album, what are your thoughts?

GD: Well I still like it. Of course I like heavy guitar and Rick likes a cleaner guitar. So if it I was to remake it nowadays I’d probably have some heavier guitar on it (laughing). But that’d be it. I wouldn’t change much else.

SLIS: You gave us a taste of some of your older lyrics with The Hidden Lyrics of Danzig, which came out in 2010. Any chance of releasing the stuff you put out from 77 to 85?

GD: Yeah. Bis (Simon Bisley) and I started talking about doing another lyric book but this time it could be whatever lyrics we wanted. It didn’t have to be songs that no one ever had seen the lyrics to. But depending on Bis because he’s always behind schedule…if it does come out I wouldn’t see it coming out for a year or two from now (laughing). So if I can get him to do the stuff it’d be great. Sometimes it just takes forever to get the stuff out of him (laughing). BUT at the end of the day he is one of the best artists around so it’s like a trade-off. Cause he really puts his heart and soul into the stuff he does for me and I can’t ask for more than that.

I want his covers album to come out.

I'd love a re-release and anniversary edition of 4p. It's my favorite Danzig album. I'd love a remastered album, live tracks, bonus/unreleased/outtakes/demos (I got the Lost Tracks of Danzig so it wouldn't be worthwhile to me honestly) and a DVD/Blu-ray featuring a live show (proshot Rock AM Ring 1995 I think?) and/or his music videos for the album (II Demonio Nera).

Not just 4p, all 4 of the American label albums need to get re-pressed on vinyl! I can't believe this hasn't been done. I have a feeling many Danzig fans are also vinyl collectors so to not have re-released them yet when vinyl has been on such a resurgence is just leaving a huge amount of money on the table.

Same goes for all the Samhain albums. The Misfits catalog has been reissued a million times and I bet they still make big chunks of cash from that every time they do it.

And of course, some sort of video/blu-ray release of either semi-current or classic concerts would be appreciated as well.

Just watched it all.

Pros:

- Loved the song choices.

- It was great seeing Glenn put more effort into the vocals, like in SkinCarver and Her Black Wings. Typical live versions sound sloppy lyrically, but these all sound amazing. Black Hell at the end was ridiculously good.

Cons:

- Far, far too short.

- The chronology should have been Misfits / Samhain / Danzig, but they kind of went back and forth.

Conclusion: physical version needs to be released with everything recorded and no cuts.

Video of Glenn talking about the new covers record called Skeletons:

http://www.rollingstone.com/music/news/ ... s-20150625 In the case of ZZ Top's gentle, fuzzy-synth ballad "Rough Boy," Danzig says he turned it into a "heavy Fifties song," since both he and Prong's Tommy Victor play guitar on the song. "I made it the way Billy Gibbons did it," Danzig says. "It kind of stops and the chorus never finishes, so I made it a flowing song. I hope he's not too upset." In addition to Danzig's take on the Troggs' "A Girl Like You" ("I made it real punky") the Litter's "Action Woman" and the Everlys' "Crying in the Rain" ("It's very creepy and dark," Danzig says of the piano-led album closer), Skeletons will also feature his second Black Sabbath cover, following his industrialized take on "Hand of Doom" from the mid-Nineties. This time, Danzig tackled a track off the trailblazing metal group's 1970 debut: the herky-jerky love letter from Lucifer titled "N.I.B." In the first link they fucked up about the Who Killed Marilyn reissue, it still isn't out yet, or Black Hell.

awesome news about Johnny drumming on the new Danzig record again though -

In addition to the covers record, the singer has been working on a proper Danzig album. "It's pretty much all recorded, except I keep writing extra songs so I'm gonna go back in the studio probably at the end of June," he says. "Some of it's very swampy and dark, some of it's...I don't know what the right word is. It's pretty heavy though."

Danzig recorded both the LP and the covers record with guitarist Victor and former Type O Negative drummer Johnny Kelly, but he also has been recording his own guitar and drums parts for select songs, switching off on bass with Victor. It's a through-line of sorts back to his Misfits days when he recorded his first solo release, the 1981 single "Who Killed Marilyn," which he recently reissued for the first time in decades. On that release, he performed every instrument

@Space Suicide (http://www.echoingthesound.org/community/member.php?u=532) - are you able to rip the audio of the Legacy release into individual MP3 songs for me? The Misfits, Samhain and Danzig set?

I really want to put it on my iPhone and listen to it in high quality audio. Especially Black Hell. Don't omit anything either, include all the banter and just split them where it sounds most rational and such.

I downloaded a compressed torrent version that I presume is still available in the usual places; download that and do it.

Meanwhile, the actual stream to buy was taken down suddenly and unexpectedly. However, a proper physical release will be put out. meanwhile, a split audio rip will do me just fine. The part with Glenn losing his tooth during that performance of all places is fucking hilarious.

@Space Suicide (http://www.echoingthesound.org/community/member.php?u=532) I think the single is available to dl on the U.S. iTunes Store. Can you kindly buy and pm to me? I'm sure the quality on there will be the best.

And you're wrong. It's not D:

i saw those guys on the Blackacidevil tour...96?

It was a trip because i was tripping. I had eaten a few hits of acid, and danzig had this huge banned behind them that said blackacidevil. The letters were really really tall but very narrow, and the acid made it look very bizarre.

Danzig was fucking AWESOME live.

Some news:

Glenn was on Sirius XM recently and they played his Elvis cover of "Always On My Mind" but no recording has surfaced yet; it's being replayed this week I think if anyone can help record it and has a Sirius account. It's from the Danzig Sings Elvis album that will be out after Skeletons.

Speaking of Skeletons, these are the editions and variants available at the moment

USA: Digipak, black vinyl and white vinyl. The vinyl versions come with a promo poster while stocks last. These are released through Nuclear Blast.

EU: Digipak, black vinyl, silver vinyl, marble vinyl and splatter vinyl. These are through AFM Records.

I also just now noticed a LILAC vinyl edition being released in the EU on the Nuclear Blast DE page.

And, on the vinyl subject, Glenn was interviewed recently and said:

http://badfeelingmag.com/2015/10/15/interview-glenn-danzig-talks-skeletons-vinyl-re-issues-twitter-and-portlandia/?utm_campaign=shareaholic&utm_medium=facebook&utm_source=socialnetwork

BF: For these re-issues, are you putting out the first four Danzig albums?
Danzig: No, no, it’s the old Who Killed Marilyn?45, Blackaciddevil, Circle of Snakes, which has never been released on vinyl in the States, Satan’s Child, which was never on vinyl in the United States, and I think it was only a picture-disc in Europe, so a lot of stuff like that.

I think the instrumental is the worst part. Tommy Victor needs to lay off the pinch harmonics.

The album is pretty much unlistenable due to terrible production and mixing and Tommy's guitar playing.

The thing is, Tommy is still playing guitar and producing Prong albums and they sound no where near as bad. I think he just does whatever Glenn says and phones it in for a paycheck.

He made his own cover album last year and his production and playing is streets ahead of Skeletons.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h_6DVDcO8Es

I think the problem is Glenn's a control freak and he's a terrible producer now.

It's frustrating because I think he could still create some great stuff if he let someone else handle the recording.

Haha I was just telling this to my wife last night as I was watching this video. Saying that this cover, his live performances and in general he needs less what I call "wheedle-y whee" sounding guitar noodles and more gritty, back to basics guitar playing with the occasional shred.

so curious how much they threw at Danzig to make this happen. He's such a jerk I'm assuming a shit ton of money is the ONLY reason this happened. Still kinda cool. Damn shame they couldn't work all this out like 15 or so years ago when Danzig's solo career started dying, and everyone involved was still relatively young.

I saw Danzig with Doyle in 2006, before he completely let the musicianship in his band slip. They played a Misfits set, it was great.

I can't see this being much more than a quick money grab but I'll definitely go to see Glenn sing those songs again if they come to Australia. He can still belt those songs out very well (revisit them, there is some GREAT songwriting in the original Misfits catalogue).

I wish Glenn never gave the Misfits name away so easily back in the day, the legacy has been soiled in a major way with the crap Jerry has done since. I'm sure Glenn made a lot of money from it too.

Much had to do with Doyle, he has wrestled in legit matches in the independent circuit.
I guess WCW approached them, the Misfits were perfect for the target audience they were looking in the 90's (Just like using KISS and Insane Clown Posse)
And just like many bad ideas the WCW had at the time, it didn't work...

The Misfits catalogue is pretty messy, there are multiple versions of most songs from different sessions and multiple compilation albums.

I like Static Age (recorded in '78 but not released until '97).

http://www.rollingstone.com/music/news/glenn-danzig-on-misfits-shows-i-want-you-to-be-surprised-20160516

For Danzig, the decision to move forward with a reunion now is as morbid as one of the band's "hits from hell." "It's been a shock to see so many musicians dying this year," he says. "A lot of them weren't really that old. David Bowie's death came out of the blue, as did Prince's. And I've said it before with Peter Steele and Dio: If you're a music fan, you think these artists will be here forever, but you should enjoy them while they're here, because you never know what will happen. You've got to enjoy it and let it happen before everybody dies." Danzig laughs heartily, and he and Only add that they are in good health, as is Doyle. "My brother could be on the cover of every muscle magazine lately," the bassist says.

Fever and Always On My Mind are the only ones confirmed so far I think.

edit: I stand corrected. Apparently he also did Home Is Where The Heart Is, Is It So Strange? and Kentucky Rain.

He also recently did another duet with Cherie Currie (they did this after the cover of Some Velvet Morning) which could be an Elvis duet.

Hopefully decent. Wasn't that into the last record as much. Last album i enjoyed front to back was 777.

Ryan

It's reported to be 50 minutes long. I think 777 succeeded so much due to the heaviness and that there was absolutely no filler; even Unendlich sounded like a part of Black Mass. Then again, Circle of Snakes didn't have any filler and was heavy, so...

Anyway, I loved 777, CoS and Deth Red Sabaoth (NetherBound, Black Angel, White Angel, Deth Red Moon, Pyre Of Souls: Incanticle, Rebel Spirits, SkinCarver, The Coldest Sun, Without Light, I Am, I Luciferi, Halo Goddess Bone, My Darkness, Skull Forrest...) all amazing. The only ones I don't care much for are Wicked Pussycat and HellMask.

So it turns out "Last Ride" was the song he wrote for The Walking Dead soundtrack that didn't materialise. Makes sense when you read the lyrics.

You’ve been working on ‘Black Laden Crown’ for a while now. How did the whole process come about? Did you record when you felt like it?

That’s the way I do my records pretty much always, but more so now. When I have stuff I go the studio and record. I use whoever is available at the time. Of course Tommy and I are the mainstays. Then I used whatever drummer who is good. My long-time drummer Johnny Kelly did some work, my old drummer Joey Castillo did some and I also used Dirk Verbeuren (Soulwork) and the remainder I played drums.

Where did you record?

I record in Hollywood in a studio called EastWest. That’s were I recorded a lot of the old stuff with Rick (Rubin).

The album is very dark, very doomy, some tracks even have a Samhain vibe to them. Was that a natural thing that happened or did you want to achieve this, maybe having 25 years of ‘How the gods kill’ in mind?

Not really. I didn’t think about that. But I’m the guy who wrote all of that stuff, so it’s not by accident that it sounds like what I have done and do. I just go in and then the songs take on a life of their own. And then I start hearing things that nobody else hears of course. It’s always funny because somebody like Johnny will say “I don’t get it yet” and I tell him, “just play your drum-track” and then all of a sudden it all falls into place. And I agree, I think it’s a very heavy album.

Devil on Highway 9 seems to pay tribute to the movie ‘The Car’. What other inspiration did you have for the lyrics?

No, it doesn’t have anything to do with the movie. The content of the lyrics is pretty evident what I was thinking, but then again I write a lot of my stuff so people can interpret it and it becomes personal for themselves, that’s what I do and want to keep doing. I love it when people get different things out of the songs, it’s great. I do what I want to do, but it becomes their personal song.

Simon Bisley did the artwork for this album. How does the album-title reflect the artwork or vise versa?

Yeah, there are elements in the song “Black Laden Crown” that can be seen on the cover. Simon also painted the back-cover. Simon has done a lot for me, the last thing was the “Devil’s Angels” 7 inch. We’ve been working together for 25 years now. I remember that we were filming the “Mother ‘93 video and Simon was working on the cover for “Thrall”, so we stopped at his house, hung out saw his crazy little cats. It was pretty wild. That’s how long we’ve known each other.

There are rumors that this could be your very last studio-album with new original songs? What are the plans?

Ah....we shall see. I’m not ruling it out.

You’re playing some shows with a special “How the gods kill” theme to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the album. Danzig III seems to have a special significance for you. Why is that?

Of course “How the gods kill” was my breakthrough record, it reached the Top 20 in the states and was the first record that I produced. It blew us open in Europe as well. I think we went on tour in Europe for more than two months with White Zombie opening for us. Most of the dates were in Germany (Cologne, Düsseldorf, Stuttgart, Dortmund, Bielefeld, Bremen). It was a really big record for the band.

When is the Danzig sings Elvis album coming out?

It’s done and I recorded way more songs than I set out to do. Every time we had down time in the studio, I said to Tommy “do you wanna do another Elvis track” and he said “sure”. So we now have a great number of songs and I’m still not sick of Elvis. The album will be released in 2018.

For decades you said that there would never be a Misfits reunion. Now it happened. Are there any chances that we will see the original Misfits play again, maybe even in Europe?

I don’t know about Europe. The fans would have to determine that. The promoter has to make us an offer and we cannot loose money. It’s a fact there won’t be any dates at the European summer-festivals.
How the whole thing came about was that Jerry and I had resolved a lot of the legal things that we had been fighting about. We just decided that if we were going to do it, we’d have to do it soon since I don’t want to be ancient. I’m still in really good shape – probably better than most people. It all turned out to be incredible.

How did it feel to be on stage again with Jerry and Doyle?

Doyle has been on tour with me many times before so it didn’t feel that much different. You just put the boots back on and you do it. I think what it mostly did, it solidified how much people love this stuff. We headlined both Riot Fest shows and seeing all those people go crazy made others, who did not take us serious before, realize what an impact the Misfits had. There were people from everywhere - South America, Japan, Europe, UK...all holding up their flags and signs, saying where they are from. It was incredible.

Will we see a DVD of those shows? There were professional cameras around...

We are editing the material and we’ll see how it turns out. We had five cameras recording the whole set.

Jerry would like to do a Misfits album in the original line-up with Dave on drums. You commented that you have a “full plate” at this time. Are you open to do a new Misfits record?

I don’t know if there’s even more Misfits shows in the future. I’m doing my new Danzig record and my “Blackest of the Black” festival in the US which is a two-day festival with camping and countless great bands. The tickets are selling way better than anybody hoped. I’m also trying to steam my comic book label “Verotik” into more of a film-area. So all of that is my focus now. That’s the way I’m gonna go.
Right now I’m working on a music video for my new album and people don’t realize how long the editing takes, especially for me. I’m planning all the shots and I’m sitting in the editing room with the editor and work on every single take with him.

You mentioned a blues and country project some years ago. Possibly with Jerry Cantrell and Hank III. How are the chances of that happening?

I see Jerry every while and we talk about it all the time. And when we do, we realize that we are both very busy and that’s it’s hard to find a time when we are both not working on projects. When he gets off the road and is not working on an album I’m probably in the middle of a tour. But if it happens one day, it’s going to great. I’m still looking forward to doing this.

You are rumored to have written a song for the TV show “The Walking Dead”.... What is your connection to the show and what happened to the song?

It’s on this album and it’s called “Last Ride”. I think the soundtrack album was scrapped. There were supposed to be a lot of other bands on it – I think Soundgarden was one of them – but it never came out. I had told people that if the soundtrack doesn’t come out before my new album is being done, I’m putting it on my new record. It’s not so much about the show itself, but more about the theme anyway. But who knows, if I do a video-clip for it, it could even have zombies.

Is there a chance you can be seen on the big screen again one day? There was talk about a Vanessa del Rio pic?

That’s in limbo. The director isn’t doing it anymore. I think he wasn’t able to raise the money that he needed to do the movie.

Now that the Misfits reunion has happened, how are the chances of a reunion of the Danzig line-up with you Eerie, John and Chuck?

No. Why?

You as a person generate strong feedback. Positive and negative. More so than most other artists. Why do you think that is?

People are just haters. Haters gotta hate. When people hate you, you’re doing something good, but I don’t give a fuck.

There is not much known about you personally. People used to know where you lived and you moved. You don’t seem to hang out with celebrities and you keep away from the spotlight. What do you do when really have time for yourself?

That’s all I’m doing. Working most of the time and sometimes I relax and charge my batteries. I have so many other things I do besides music. I stay busy. And I like to keep to myself. I don’t hang out just to hang out and be seen somewhere. I hate that crap.

Are there new or current bands that you feel have a Danzig attitude to them? A dark side that matches the atmosphere that you create?

I don’t know. I haven’t head a lot of new bands lately because I’ve been working so much. I think I see a lot of bands out there, compared to when I started out. There’s more now and it’s great. I like to have these type of bands on my “Blackest of the Black” festival as well. Like Ministry, Marduk, Belphagor, Devildriver, even Suicidal Tendencies.

But what is not shown is the additional Processing fee which pushes the price of a ticket over $300. No Doyle listed? Lame. How did these egomaniacs/morons fuck this up already?

They put him in very small print in one of the previous posters, lol.

Master of the musical macabre Glenn Danzig has been working on his directorial debut with erotic horror film Verotika for a while now (https://www.revolvermag.com/culture/see-first-stills-glenn-danzigs-directorial-debut-verotika), and a premiere date has finally been set to take place at Chicago festival Cinepocalypse, on June 13th, with the director himself slated to attend.
"It's an anthology," Danzig told Revolver (https://www.revolvermag.com/culture/glenn-danzig-horror-favorites-crazy-new-verotik-film-rob-zombies-advice) of the project last year. "Have you ever seen Black Sabbath with Boris Karloff? Trilogy of Terror with Karen Black as the lead in the three different stories? In my movie, each part is between 25 and 35 minutes."

The movie will feature a series of vignettes, such as one starring Ashley Wisdom (https://www.imdb.com/name/nm6936065/) as the title character in "The Albino Spider of Dajette," another in which Alice Haig will take on the role of "Drukija Contessa of Blood" in an Erzebet Bathory–inspired turn as a youth-obsessed, monstrous woman who seeks the blood of virgins in order to gain immortality, and another titled "Morella" that will star adult film actress Kayden Kross.
"You'll see a lot of the stuff I love in this movie — shadowy stuff, gore and all of it," said Danzig (https://www.revolvermag.com/music/misfits-horror-metal-glenn-danzig-creative-legacy-avoiding-phony-bullshit), adding, "I'm not doing anything other than an R movie. I like boobs and blood. [Laughs]"

In a statement issued today, May 7th, the festival promises, "Glenn's passion for film, the occult, and all things ghouls 'n ghosts has long influenced his music, and now he's taking these elements to the big screen. Featuring a plot shrouded in secrecy, a soundtrack of new Danzig music, and based on the output of his comic book publishing company Verotik — a compound of "violence" and "erotic" — this feature film anthology is a realization of his lifelong love of comics and the dark arts."
Verotika will makes its world debut on Thursday, June 13th at the historic art house cinema the Music Box Theatre. Four-day all access passes will set you back $125, and gets you into all film screenings, events, and parties. Find more information on the film and ticketing for the festival here (https://musicboxtheatre.com/events/cinepocalypse-2019).

Early reviews are saying the Verotika movie is like the horror version of “The Room” in that it’s so bad, it’s good.

Doubt you're gonna see any more Misfits shows after Oakland. They've wrapped up their 10 contractually obligated shows as per the settlement agreement between Jerry & Glenn. Guess we'll see if they (read: Glenn) grew up at all & put aside their differences, especially now that they see how much $ they can make & how insane the crowd reactions have been. Up the punx fellas.

Holy crap. I did not know 1) there was a settlement between these guys (thanks again, Google) and 2) ticket prices were that high.

That Oakland show is selling like hot garbage. Would probably get more interest in a one-on-one wheelchair dunk contest of Kevin Durant vs. Klay Thompson.

substantial price drop in these tickets for oakland next week, maybe other shows as well, i scored floor for 100 instead of the original 250. nosebleeds are 35.

GODDAMN did anyone go to MSG last night for the final Misfit's show? It was fantastic!

I got there for Rancid. I have never really been a fan but they put on a great show. Never realized how many of their songs I actually knew. They were fun, energetic & clearly still very big b/c the crowd was way into them. Good stage banter throughout too. Talked about their first NYC show in 1993, how he always wanted to play MSG after seeing Jimmy Superfly Snuka wrestle here on TV once in the 80's, and shouted out all the mainstays of classic NYHC like AF, Cro-Mags, Sheer Terror, Murphy's Law and a bunch more. Had their own autographed show print selling for $100. Kinda crazy considering they were opening, but still cool b/c it shows how big they are. And doubley cool that the Misfits crew allowed it.

Now onto the Misfits....I think I will let these excellent videos do alot of the talking first...

Not bad right? Glenn sounded great, and was in good shape. Didn't seem to get too winded until the end of the show, and was running all over the place all night. Sound wasn't great (and can only be so good in an arena anyway) overall, but improved a good amount after the first two Misfits songs. Guys all seemed to be getting along really well. Lombardo was a monster on the drums...no surprise there. Added some cool flourishes on certain songs. Jerry is such a clown....broke 6 different guitars throughout the night. I really question how much him and Doyle are even playing. Acey Slade is def. picking up all the slack back there. They claimed the show was sold out, but I don't buy it. It was def. full or very close to it, but 1/3 or so of the entire arena was still available for purchase on Wednesday when I checked, so some massive papering took place I imagine (My tix were free, for example). Misfits made out like bandits regardless I'm sure....sold tons of custom t-shirts for just last night's show as well as their own $100 show prints. Interestingly, they didn't do Yondr pouches for this show unlike the rest of these reunion shows. I wonder if Glenn was too cheap for it this time (I was told its around $300,000 to do this at arena show) or if MSG's union guys just won't do it b/c it's not in their contract. After the success of these (just look & hear the crowd in the above videos...people were loving it), i hope more of these shows occur in the future. It should perhaps be sparingly to keep them as an event, but they should still occur. Certainly parts of Europe would eat this shit up.

bobbie solo I was there. Didn't have great seats but the show was incredible. I don't know why I kind of expected Danzig to phone it in and not really care but I was proven wrong. He was VERY into it the entire show and it showed. I lost count at 6 basses destroyed by Jerry and it was super cool seeing him give one to that girl in the wheelchair. Had to have made her night/year. Felt wrong seeing a punk show from a seat, especially a seat in the 200s, but at least the crowd was into it and standing the entire show (everybody near me say during The Damned and Rancid so I was worried they were gonna be lame). I actually didn't realize it was their last show until yesterday so I'm really glad I got tickets last minute.

So if they are gonna keep this going then I imagine Europe will eventually be in the cards. Should be some massive crowds for them out there.

I think the Veortika film proves Danzig doesn't really have a great ... well ... "artistic" eye anymore.
