It's less than a week now before the most anticipated mod ever gets it's (first) release. Those who have played and loved the original Half-Life will know all about it.

Help get Black Mesa onto Steam via Greenlight. Every Vote counts!

What I'm really looking forward to is incredibly slow sub kilobyte downloads and collapsing servers, staying up until 4 am patiently refreshing pages and shooting shit on IRC, just like in the good old days of Counter-Strike 1.4 - 1.5 updates, that will really take me back!

I kid, it'll probably just torrent in a few minutes and painlessly install... and I'm not going back to IRC.. YOU CAN'T SEND ME BACK

This makes me like Valve all the more. It's so cool that they've supported this. I can't imagine the amount of work that went into this, I hope they end up hiring some of the team.

I agree! They certainly deserve the recognition. I read a few interviews with the team over the years and many of them have already gone on to other companies to work in the industry, others have now got families / completely separate lives... I guess thats what an 8 year dev cycle does. kudos to them though, 2 days 8 hours to go!

Holy shit, it's excellent. I'm amazed by the quality of this production. They did a spectacular job. Best fan-made remake ever.

Just got to 'We Got Hostiles'
They really have done a good job, enough little changes to make it feel fresh, but its still Half Life through and through. Which is its only problem.. I've played through HL more than nearly any other game, so it does feel a little stale. But thats me. It's still excellent, I'd recommend it over playing Half Life for anyone new to the series.

Spent about forty minutes just wandering around the Anomalous Materials Labs, haven't even reached the test chamber yet. There's a shitload of funny little moments tucked away in there (including a very fashion-conscious scientist in the locker room), and the music throughout the tram ride is absolutely perfect. Looks stunning too, even with the Source engine being so old... deeply impressive stuff.

I'm going to give this baby a try.. as soon as I make some free space. I only hope I won't be jumping onto that elevator ladder for about 8 hours like I did the first time I played Half-Life. That shit was just too.. ugh!
