Pre-TDS Promo Photos - Gotta Catch 'em All

I just came across a stash of promo photos, apparently for the UK press, which I've never seen before. Lots of Jeff Ward, actually.

I've always thought it might be cool to have a collection of 'official' promo photos - the black and white ones sent out by TVT for Pretty Hate Machine and Broken seem hardest to come by.

I have a growing collection of promo photos. I'd love to see what you've found. I could be mistaken, but I think there was talk of getting scans on nincollector at one point.

Sorry for the delay, I didn't realize the time when I'd posted that, and had to crawl into bed. I'm fairly certain the ebay seller of those acetates is overstating his product. Just that type of pre-press negative used to be sent to all sorts of clients (newspapers, magazines, etc.) back in the day so that they could reproduce publicity shots on demand. I HIGHLY, HIGHLY doubt those are any sort of "original" negatives, nor the ONLY ones of their kind in the UK, much less the world. Rare, I don't doubt. But don't believe the totality of his hype.

Wait, wait, wait. eBay auctions get overstated? Hehe. Yeah, that's just the nature of auctions, I don't really believe these are the sole copies of these particular images, but I do know that I thought I'd pretty much seen it all as far as press photos go, and I've never seen these. I've seen a few of the other ones he's selling, but the dirt and antlers photo? What the fuck? I was originally cropping the 'tvt/island' stuff out, but figured if I'd done that, no one would believe that photo was actually NIN.

I'm slightly perturbed that the guy puts his thumb over the photo credit every time.

Now, is it worth trying to win these, so that they can be scanned in and preserved?

Also: Anyone else got nice scans of promo photos they can add here? I'll see if I can get some put up later this month.

I once bought a print of the middle picture on ebay, although I'm still unsure if it's an actual analogue print, heh. But it was only 10 bucks.

Did every Nothing band get these lovely promo photos? I have a couple from 12 Rounds, and I know Manson had some, but it seems the rest of the bands were voidManson, Prick, PWEI, Meat Beat, Squarepusher and Autechre got them for sure. Don't know about the other bands.


Also: Anyone else got nice scans of promo photos they can add here?I miss my old promo pics. Sold most of them to terryana and I think I gave you a couple, Matt. I have one left from TPD era but that's not going anywhere. It's framed otherwise I'd scan it in.

Among the ones you sent, I actually like the photo of the TDS-era studio best. If I haven't scanned that in yet, it'll... hmm. I don't have a working scanner anymore. Blargh. Somehow, I'll include that photo in this thread.

We have some pretty good scanners in the photo department at school, and if you get/have any negs we have a really good quality negative scanner that does up to 4x5s.

I've got a rare Fragile era one that I'll scan later. From Motor Records in Germany, it shows TR at the mixing desk. I've never been up on collecting promo photos, but this one was just too cool not to buy as I've never seen that picture before.

I like this picture, looks like it's from the same photo session as the one I have (and will post shortly), but that has to be a fan reprint or something, as the bottom is from a TVT era photo.

Nope. The Fragile is my favorite era, and while I've parted with some stuff and still looking to off load most of my t-shirt collection once he puts something out and prices go back up, I'm not selling anything Fragile related. I'd actually like to get that TR guitar one you have, even with the TVT stuff on it.

Resurrecting a 7+ year old thread but I've been wanting to start cataloging these photos for a while over on nincatalog.com and I finally got around to doing so.
I put up 5 of them thus far. 9 or so more will be coming up in the next day so keep checking back for updates.

The library FULLMETAL refers to isn't a public library, but is the cache of assets kept by a newspaper. If you're lucky, your local newspaper has digitized their old stash before throwing it all out. It's more likely that all that's already been tossed and there is no further record of it, at most US newspapers.
