When I posted about these guys and gal on the old ETS, there seemed to be a positive response. Now that their debut LP is set for a Fall release on Last Gang Records (http://lastgangentertainment.com/records/artists/dark-horses) (and still produced by Richard Fearless I believe), I think it's time for a new thread. They've opened for Kasabian, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, and more.

I was clued in about the 'Horses through James Lavelle of UNKLE: he's collaborated with singer Lisa Elle on UNKLE tracks "On a Wire", "The Runaway" (a personal favorite), "Ablivion", and a live version of "In a State" with the Heritage Orchestra. Lisa has also done some exceptional backing vocals for King Creosote & Jon Hopkins.

Anyway, Dark Horses have just released two new music videos.

Radio (which some of you may remember from their MySpace page - updated here)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Uyr9kqRaLc&feature=plcp

Boxing Day (new single - apparently co-written by UNKLE member James Griffith)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3dC8yySF7GM&feature=plcp

Alone (debut single from 2010)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xloq_JYPfsY&feature=plcp

Psyched for the album!

They're also making their first North American appearance via a session at KCRW this Saturday, so keep an eye out for that.

I picked up the Alone single based on the thread on the old boards. Good stuff. "Boxing Day" sounds promising. The full-length should be interesting, especially with Fearless involved.

Agreed, "Boxing Day" is pretty much exactly the kind of thing I've been hoping for, and the last Death in Vegas album was fucking badass, so I think we're in for a treat. "Radio" appears to be the next official single, with a release date set for July 23rd. Hopefully there's another nice b-side + remix combo to complement it!

Like these guys a lot - the website I write for got a top ten off them to coincide with the release of 'Radio'. Plug plug etc. (http://www.thebeatjuice.com/top-10s/view/1279/1/dark-horses-top-ten)

Very nice, sukey! I'd imagine they're beginning to plan much of their press content.

I wonder if any US dates are in the cards over the next 6-12 months. That would be nice. I'm really dying to hear to hear the LP.

I remember the thread on ye olde ETS and how much I dug it, but for the life of me couldn't remember their name. Huzzah!!

Glad I could reunite you with the 'Horses, o_m!

For those of you that haven't heard it, or haven't heard it in a while, here's UNKLE's "The Runaway" with an exceptional vocal by Lisa Elle:

EDIT: Dark Horses' soundcloud page (http://soundcloud.com/darkhorsesmusic) for all you soundcloud people, featuring what I can only assume is the full-length version of "Boxing Day."

So, "Radio" is officially out digitally on Spotify (http://open.spotify.com/album/0uZqsRA6AIkr4Pe6oXLprU), iTunes (http://itunes.apple.com/us/album/radio-single/id547292135) and on physical 7" via the band's site (http://www.darkhorsesmusic.com/two.html). The b-side is "Radio Offshore" featuring Robert from Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, which is pretty awesome, me being a BRMC fan. It's a cool, slower variation on the original. Woo! I can't wait for this bands debut to finally drop. It's been a long time coming. I've been following them since 2010. She has an amazing voice, and I really dig their sound. It's dark and has attitude but it doesn't seem to try. I think it's awesome about robert being on the new version of Radio (which is a great track).

Man, this fall is for MUSIC. Dark Horses, Tame Impala, & Black Moth Super Rainbow? ? Just to name a few..

I come bearing good news: we now have a release date, a title, and a tracklist for the debut LP. (via clashmusic (http://www.clashmusic.com/news/dark-horses-line-up-debut-album))

On October 29th, Dark Horses will release Black Music on Last Gang Records.

Tracklist:

1. Rose
2. Radio
3. Alone
4. Boxing Day
5. No Dice
6. Chant Chain
7. Traps
8. Count Me In
9. Black Music
10. Sanningen On Dig
11. Road To Nowhere
12. S.U.N.
13. Anna Minor
14. The Archer

Can't wait! Particularly excited for proper studio versions of "Count Me In" and "Sanningen On Dig." If "Boxing Day" is any indication, all the other new stuff will be great, too. This certainly just shot up to number 1 on my Most Anticipated Fall Releases list!

Also, the band recently re-uploaded "Alone" to their Soundcloud page (http://soundcloud.com/darkhorsesmusic/dark-horses-alone), with a new short intro, which must be how it appears on the album. Looking at the blurb from the previous link, I guess we can assume they're re-releasing it as a single on October 22nd. Exciting times!

Black Music is up for pre-order on iTunes UK, with samples (http://itunes.apple.com/gb/album/black-music/id567144181).

"Road to Nowhere" is very unexpected, but very welcome. Sounds like a more sparse Goldfrapp or something. I would love to own this album on vinyl - hopefully the band will be selling copies via their site come release time.

This album is great! I have moved my road to nowhere cover to the end of the album as a bonus track. i'm really hoping that they will get added to the lineup for Austin Psychfest next year in April. I'm pretty sure they have tour with both BRMC and The Black Angels before

I was thinking the same thing, InsectGod - hopefully they get added to the APF lineup! That would be awesome. I gave Black Music a once through on Rdio and really liked it, but that was not enough! Looking forward to sinking my teeth into this album...

Darkhorsesmusic retweeted and said "Yes Please!" about Psychfest (I'm michaeloneil0) I will shit my pants if I see they are added to the lineup! We've still got two more rounds of bands to annouce so hopefully they will work something out before march

The new music video for "Alone" is fucking SEXY. Enjoy.

Also, it would appear the U.S. release date for "Black Music" is April 2nd. You can currently pre-order it on iTunes. It comes with 'Radio Offshore', 'Young Woman's Blues', and 'Alone (Rules Remix)' as bonus tracks. Hopefully this means a physical release on April 2nd as well - come on, vinyl!!

I'd like a vinyl release here in the states, but I was anticipating just importing it when it is released overseas. It's great to see a U.S. release of their album, and not too long after the fact either, which is nice. Too many a band release their album overseas well after it dropped in their native lands. It almost seems like a desperate marketing ploy. (Let's keep our name in the headlines for as long as possible... Single after single first, then remixes and THEN the U.S. release!) I am pumped they are getting recognition though! :)

Any chance someone ripped this live in-studio performance on XFM? Set starts at about 48 minutes in. Live version of "Boxing Day" is pretty badass.

EDIT: "Alone" starts around the 1 hr., 53 min. mark and "Traps" at 2 hrs., 45 min.

One of my favorite new bands/collectives.

http://www.darkhorsesmusic.com/

Their debut album, Black Music, was produced by Richard Fearless and their follow-up (also produced by Fearless) is finished and due in a few months.

They're about to embark on a European tour, and are doing an IndieGoGo campaign to help fund it. There are some excellent incentives including vinyl of the new album, and a coffee table book featuring the stunning photography non-musical member of the band Ali Tollervey.

I forgot I already started a thread on these guys! :(
Apologies - please feel free to delete the new thread. I'm embarrassed.

Second album Hail Lucid State is available now! It is really good! I like it as much if not more as a whole than the first. It's still too early to say if it's better, but the point is it doesn't disappoint.
