ha, the only one of ^ those i DISLIKE is alice in chains.

sing the sorrow (minus "girl's not grey") is my favorite AFI album, hybrid theory is so of its time but i'll never stop loving it, and full collapse is absolutely thursday's masterpiece.

Oh come on, Girl's Not Grey is a right tune. ;) I agree on the other two though. Hybrid Theory should not have aged this well considering it is so of its time, but when I put it on yesterday, it was like I was 5 again, losing my shit to that record like the first time I heard it. And Full Collapse is insanely great, Post-Hardcore was at its best in the late 90's and early 2000's, and I'd easily have it up there with the likes of The Shape Of Punk To Come, Relationship Of Command and Worship And Tribute as one of my favorites of that era.

I'm towards the end of it and am thoroughly happy with it so far. Will almost certainly end up on my favorites of 2015 list. DCFC has meant a lot to me over the years, and was one of the first acts I remember truly wowing me with lyrics, so there's certainly a soft spot in my heart for them. This record just feels great. Black Sun, You've Haunted Me All My Life, Good Help (Is So Hard to Find) are all stand-outs currently. Still haven't hit the last three tracks. You can tell how inspired it is by both being the last album with one of their members and as the first Death Cab record since Gibbard's divorce, but rather than it be the insanely depressing hour of "yeah, give up and kill yourself" songs that Narrow Stairs was, this manages to hold those subjects up to light, twist them around, examine them and set them back down without getting entirely consumed by them. There's a lot of heartache and negativity laying just beneath the surface, but not seething.

I've been on a Maiden kick lately. Nothing can touch their 80's albums, but some of their later-day (2000+) work is good too. I really liked Brave New World and need to give Dance of Death another listen. TFF is too damn long, and it's only ten songs. A track like "Seventh Son of a Seventh Son" works as a ten minute epic, but some songs would sound better if they were 3-4 minutes long.

Such a perfect album. Every song is fantastic. Such a gorgeous thing, such a filthy thing, such an expressive and just grandiose fuckin' masterpiece. Power, wealth, fame and ego torn down through personal failure and self-realization. Reaching for more in a culture of excess where no matter how much material there might be none of it's worth quite as valuable as "a good home and a wife and children and some food to feed them every night." Who will survive in America? Blame Game is so goddamned powerful, Hell of a Life is just debauched beauty, every song is just so poured over and detailed and incredible. I'm so much more of a Yeezus person but Dark Twisted Fantasy has the reputation it does for a reason and I can't blame anyone for calling it the best thing he's made.

That Bloodline band made a nice looking video and the music sounds well produced. I dont know. It's hard for me to get behind tunes like this. Good solos and soaring vocals but you could tell me this is a song from 10 years ago and I wouldnt even try and dispute it. To each their own I guess.

I have never heard of Tamaryn before but I am quite enjoying this. Thanks for posting.

A friend of mine recently got into the whole one man band live looping him. He does all genres and I feel that he does them very well. Maybe you like it.

It is an interesting direction, i'm glad too that they are "closing the Mars Volta Chapter" but at the same time they are still doing music, i do like Cedric's and Omar's respective solo works but in my opinion they "belong together", just like Robert Plant and Jimmy Page...

I don't know if this will ever get old to me. Still one that each time I give it a listen something new jumps out at me, or a song I usually don't think as much of suddenly resonates a lot stronger. That rare kind of double album where it just so benefits from the added length and having so much space to breathe, experiment and sprawl in different directions. I'm still not big on a few tracks and I don't consider it the best SP album like so many do, but damn if I don't see why that's the popular consensus.

I find it kind of funny that one of the biggest critiques of this album was/is the lyrical content, when it has some of the most recognizable and famous lines of any SP album out there. Yeah it dives into some really angsty territory, but it's pretty warranted, and expresses it better than plenty of other bands have before. A song like Bodies or Stumbleine or Thru the Eyes of Ruby or By Starlight just puts things to words so well and manages to just capture this beauty and sadness that really characterizes how I approach BC's writing in general. Porcelina is still one of the most fantastic, gorgeous things I've heard, musically and lyrically really. Muzzle is out of this world. It's just such a satisfying listen.

Going to be giving Ministry a bigger shot today thanks to Kris being cool and recommending me some material. Hopefully I dig it.

Shadaloo

Awesome stuff

Can't really add anything to that except to say MCIS really is the soundtrack to adolescence/coming of age. Billy managed to capture confused angsty youth-feelings perfectly; I consider myself very lucky to have grown up with it. I think it'll remain rather timeless to me for as long as I live.

Ministry is good shit, and though it'll depend on your tastes, IMO you really can't go wrong with anything up to Houses Of The Mole. The guy hit like four or five genres of music and nailed every one. What a career.

so...the only album you skipped was OK Computer? (which is considered by many to be their best album)

i got into radiohead when kid a came out and it's still my favorite album, so i don't think you'll have any problem breaking the chronological order thing.

Planet Waves by Bob Dylan. It's kinda forgotten by most people, probably because Blood on the Tracks came out the next year. But, goddamn, it's fantastic.

After years of enjoying Pink Floyd in a comfortable little bubble consisting of the years 1973-1979, and being subsequently turned off by listens The Final Cut (which I gave another shot yesterday after years since the last, and immediately regretted) and much of The Division Bell (of which only Marooned and High Hopes ever really stood out to me), I'm finally taking the plunge and aiming to check out the rest of Pink Floyd's discography.

Loving this one. It really shouldn't have taken me this long.

Now for the part I'm equally dreading and anticipating: going back further than Dark Side Of The Moon, which I've never really done. I never got around to it, as I've found I've mostly loved Waters' works; the aggression and pessimism he brought to Animals and The Wall. I'm worried I won't like what came before as much, but it's long overdue.

"Now that I know that I'm breaking to pieces, I'll pull out my heart and I'll feed it to anyone."

Needs no comments really. Pretty much everyone knows this album if you're even remotely into The Cure at all. Just beautiful, gorgeous gloom, fantastic sadness and angst that's so thick it's practically palpable. Just a sincere expression of really deep, really honest inner turmoil stemming from addiction, romance and general depression and anxiety. I still love Pornography more, but this is so totally THE Cure album. Every element really just comes together so fucking perfectly, every looping guitar, every moody synth, Smith's tortured vocals, it all comes out so well. It's one of those albums where I can't help but feel something from it every time I've put it on. It's just so immediate, so sincere, so strong.

my friend's band was supposed to play with them but the booking company were total dicks about there being a girl in the band and them not being "hard" enough or some bullshit, so they dropped out. A&P was pretty pissed about it, from what i heard, because he was excited to play with them.

there's a possibility down the line that one of my bands might play with him.

I feel that one could take that paragraph almost word for word and apply it to Pornography instead but with one exception; the word "Beautiful" would only apply to Disintegration. It's flawless. It was once of those albums I could not listen to more than once in a while when I first got it, because sweet Christ, the feelings it inspired in my teenage self. My chest felt heavy after the first listen. It was indeed raining, as I recall. And here I am, past thirty, and it still gets me every time.
