First opinion pictures versus music:
- music is well edited into the movie (more to the background). As a music lover a little disappointing, but looking at the view to make a movie understandable.
- it's awesome to hear the samplers of the soundtrack in the movie, but for me the soundtrack (3 CDs) stands on his own.

Again, I love the soundtrack (I already listened to it more than to Ghosts + TSN), but after this era (of two soundtracks in row) it's time for something different.
HTDA + NIN releases need to be the focus for the next years.

Edit: I taped the outro with "IYLSE", but it sounds messy. Indeed, the first part of the song is different/quieter; the rest the same as the original.

I'm not really surprised. You had to expect that John Williams would be there for both of his scores as well as Ludovic Bource who we all know is gonna win this year.

I think the fact that it's such a massive soundtrack to digest makes it less appealing for the academy. Also, let's not forget that TSN was somewhat the first of its kind for a score.
I personally think that most if not all tracks on TSN are pretty remarkable while I skip some of the tracks on this one.

It's two discs, so still much longer than your average sampler, and more importantly the film has minimal awards momentum. Even so... no nomination? I don't think the music was mixed into the film as well as TSN's was, but even with NIN bias aside, I still think Dragon Tattoo's score was more characterful, emotive and interesting than the one nominee I've heard (The Artist).

I know I've mentioned this somewhere else, but unless I'm missing something major, Danny Elfman has never won an Oscar. And for at least a good ten years he was probably the only other film composer most people could name besides John Williams. I'm not saying that's how it should be, but I'm saying people tend to underestimate how wild Rezmo's wins last year were, because as a nin fan we tend to shrug and go, "Well, of course he's awesome."

It's just the font lay-out / design aspect of it. There's a few letters that the font has a few different styles for and Rob Sheridan must have decided that it looked better that way.

Because they didn't fit, or were used in scenes that were used in scenes that were cut. The commercial soundtrack isn't like most officially-released OSTs in that it's been mixed to work as an album above working as a reflection of what's in the film (and all the better for it, imo).

Don't forget that Trent posted on nin.com that he and Atticus scored the trailers for Dragon Tattoo separately from the film itself. The full length 3 min. trailer for example features "An Itch" while the extended 8 min. trailer has prominent use of "A Thousand Details", not to mention bits of "The Same as the Others", "Perihelion", "How Brittle the Bones", "The Splinter" and "Cut into Pieces." Obviously there's still a lot leftover that's not in any of the trailers or the movie, but that just goes to show how committed Trent and Atticus are (and how long they worked on the film). I'm sure they swapped certain songs in and out that didn't make the final cut like "Revealed in the Thaw" etc., but it certainly suggests that they just amplified the approach they used on The Social Network: writing from an instinctual place in relation to the plot + characters, and seeing what works where.

Hopefully we'll hear about it in more detail on the blu-ray release! Maybe instead of a "Swarmatron" featurette this time time, we'll get to see the arsenal of bells and piano treatments Trent & Atticus used.

Now I think I'm gonna make a playlist of un-used Social Network and Dragon Tattoo songs.

That's what's really upsetting. This is the first time I've dealt with Topspin so I didn't actually expect the delay (yeah, silly me, I know), but this bullshit about emailing us the day it's supposed to ship is horrible. This was what I was looking forward to for weeks now.

Hopefully Rob will be able to tell us what happened with it now that the emails have been sent out. If he knows. Which I think he would, right?

Topspin does not manufacture the sets - they only sell and distribute them. I would assume that the fault lies with the company producing the sets and/or the designers of the sets. I'm sure we'll get info as to why sooner rather than later.

Honestly - I'm not surprised. We usually get teases or in-production shots a few weeks beforehand, so the fact that we've heard nothing about the sets had me thinking that they would be delayed. Oh well. I'm sure they'll still be just amazing the week of March 30th.

Admittedly, it's a bit different, given that they did pre-sales, but back when I had long hair, every NIN release got an official release date, and then at least one delay. I even had a "Things Falling Apart" promo poster with the original release date on it. Pretty sure I sold that off years ago though. Having the release pushed back a month or two had always been par for the course. Y'all are just spoiled.

Came across this when trying to find a higher res version of one of the GDT promo images for a wallpaper, and there's a few on there (click on the Russian text under the image to download rather than the image for high res). There's some other cool stuff, like 10867x5433/535mb and 8150x11929/700mb photoshop assets for 2 Russian posters. The posters have the text is on its own layer, so you can have the art by itself in a couple of clicks if desired. I put the poster photoshop files on my dropbox for fast download speeds, as most people might be interested in these over anything else. Video stuff: There's some electronic press kit videos on there and very brief interviews from Fincher and Mara, which I believe were recorded before the screenings. There's also 6 or so MXF files, ranging from 700MB to 1.7GB, which I'm guessing are source files used for the trailers or something else. I don't know how to open MXF files, everything was individually zipped so I had to find this found out after downloading them, if someone else was interested maybe they could give it a shot. They're related to Avid video editing tools, I gave them a shot in premiere but they didn't work. I recommend using a download manager like jdownloader to get the larger stuff since this site is slow (between 40 and 50kb/s for me).

same here. i was totally just blowing $$ on TR's signature while i was in a holiday mood. have no idea what producing those DE vinyls involves, but it seems excessive to me that it takes 4 more months for a soundtrack which must have been finished sometime last fall. maybe i would have felt different if it was an album i cared about, but a soundtrack to a movie i still don't care about, not so much.

It took 2 days to hear from a real person, but it took 8 days from when I first e-mailed to when I was told I was receiving a refund. I'm not sure what took so long... from the updates on the ticket, it seemed like my request was being handed back and forth between departments and staff members like a game of hot potato. There was no communication, just these weird updates about who was now handling my case. (I just sat back and watched... only e-mailed them once during it all.) Hopefully yours will be more efficient.

Sure, but at the very least, it seems that they're telling you that it's possible to cancel your order if you purchase the digital download. I was told that it was "impossible" to cancel.

EDIT: I sent an email offering to purchase the digital version if that was the issue, I didn't say anything else. As a response I got:

I received a full refund, and it's been credited back to my credit card. I didn't download the digital download when it was offered to me, so I didn't actually consume anything from that purchase. I also framed it more as a command rather than a request. i.e. not "Can you please refund my order?". Rather, "Please inform me when my refund will be processed. If I have not heard back from you by [date], then I will be filing a chargeback dispute with my credit card issuer."

I ordered the $75 deluxe edition from Ghosts upon release and by the time it got to my door it cost me ~$170 CAD total due the slight conversion, fedex shipping, and a bullshit $50 customs fee. I'm assuming this is the exact deluxe edition as nullco.com, anyway.

In brief, the film had a very rushed post-production schedule trying to hit that December release date and it precluded any serious participation from those artists most heavily involved in post, i.e.: sound design, score and color correction. I know Ren Klyce was working round the clock for weeks on end to hit the delivery, and I pestered Trent and Atticus numerous times to no avail. I have no doubt they wanted to participate, but with my disc delivery date coming so close on the heels of the film's delivery date, it just wasn't possible.

Yes. The manufacturing and prototyping/design processes are the reasons for the delay, this is old news. Also, Topspin has saved TR in the past (http://twitter.com/trent_reznor/statuses/142676672750174208) (I think for the initial Dragon Tattoo CD/digital) when another outlet let him down.

But I did want to point out that not all fans who bought the package are here on ETS to know about Rob's tweets (or happen to be regularly reading Rob's tweets on their own). And they shouldn't have to -- if you spend hundreds of dollars on something, you should get an e-mail if it's delayed.

Considering I pre-ordered this in December, and the movies been out on DVD for a while now, and the hype has calmed down considerably, I've found myself requesting a refund because I simply don't care at this point. It was too pricey in December when I bought it, but splurged anyway. Now? In April? No thanks. I'm done. Hoping the refund process is smooth.

this is me posting random negativity, so by all means ignore, I just felt like articulating my thoughts on the subject. while I have no doubt the product will ultimately be great, I think this is a sad turn of events for the nindustry. my fiancee bought me the deluxe set as a surprise gift, which thrilled me, but it's just turned into a joke at this point -- and to her, this all just seems rampantly unprofessional.

in the new music economy, interest peaks and disappears in the drop of a hat, washed out by the sheer amount of other product out in the marketplace. I can honestly say that, after this, my fiancee would certainly be less inclined to jump in and buy a preorder package for me (from Reznor or anyone, really). And that makes me sad. It was a big leap of faith to ask people to buy 3 hours of unheard, instrumental soundtrack music in the first place -- but then not being able to deliver it when you said you would is the sort of thing that not only defeats buzz, it raises apathy. While I'm sure the difference in product will be night and day, it looks ridiculous that the theatrical run and dvd release of this movie have all happened before the soundtrack release... and appearances can mean everything when it comes to sales.

Again, I'm sorry for the negativity, I just felt like putting that out there. I want Reznor & Co. to succeed because I like the music. I don't want it to get washed under this sort of thing.

I don't think people should be refunding them unless they need the money, as it seems rather defeatist, but:
TR/AR/Rob knew the score was going to be pretty long. They knew roughly what they wanted for the deluxe package. Whilst the actual vinyls and content were not going to be ready pre-release, they could've gotten some mock ups of the package with blank vinyls, to make sure it was fine well before the OST even dropped. I understand many things can happen that no one can anticipate, but the OST was always going to have roughly the same release slot, and whilst TRAR were working on the music, Rob could've been getting the mockups, so they'd know about whatever issues have happened in advance.

But of course, this is their second ever deluxe package and first with a rigid timeslot forced by a label (Sony pictures), so I think this was simply a learning experience, and TFDE/HTDA LE/NIN/Whatever will be almost flawless in delivery. Hindsight is 20/20 after all, I just hope the poor experiences with Mute, whoever was making the packages and deadlines doesn't mean that Null Co stop doing deluxe packages, as they are always excellent, and I would buy them all if I could afford it.

And of course, this could be the reason HTDA has mysteriously been pushed back despite being finished on an audio level - they want to actually say "hey, you can buy the deluxe today and get it mailed to you tomorrow, instead of in 4 months!".
