From Ash512, via thisoneisonus.org:

When I first heard about the TDS set the band performed at Webster Hall on August 23rd 2009, I pretty much, like everyone else in the entire world, went apeshit. Part of it was my epic failure of choosing to see the Bowery Ballroom show the night before instead (which was still mindblowing in its own right). But then I remembered Trent tweeting the night before about the show not being officially filmed due to Live Nation charging them too much dough. Trent also mentioned this would be the first and last time they'd ever play that set... I immediately got on it and used the @thisoneisonus twitter feed to get the ball rolling.

I received 11 full sources plus a few partial ones. Thankfully, most of that material was in glorious HD, but the footage, overall, was pretty rough. Lots of shakiness, lots of blurry part due to autofocusing, saturated colors, cables in the way and whatnot.

This, needless to say, shaped the editing and the end result is RAW. Much more violent and brutal than any other thisoneisonus release, this DVD conveys visually the same kind of dark, grim intensity that can be heard on the album. This is definitely not your usual concert DVD... it's chaotic, it's relentless. But until we find out whether or not the band decides to release the much inferior Palladium show (from Trent's own mouth http://vimeo.com/6542964), this is likely to be the only full, continuous DVD of that historic performance.

The audio, while being pretty stellar for a bootleg, has some nasty moments due to one over-excited fan screaming in the microphone. Thankfully, Aaron Short managed to slightly diminish its presence during mixing and mastering.

The Downward Spiral : Live comes as a single layer, standard definition DVD. It features animated menus and a short photo gallery sent in from people over on flickr. The torrent is downloadable right here.

Use any DVD burning software to burn the VIDEO_TS folder. Make sure you select the Video_Ts option on your software. We recommand Toast if you're on Mac or Nero if you're on PC.

For those of you with iPod, here's the full show as an iPod friendly MP4 file.

And, for those of you with no patience, you can watch it on YouTube.

Enjoy!

There's a bunch of relevant content in this thread about Ash's project:

http://www.echoingthesound.org/phpbbx/viewtopic.php?t=48510

If you want to do a big C+P of all the relevant content it'd probably be helpful as it's all mixed up with dave veal's stuff at the moment.

Link will be coming up very shortly; I believe Ash is just waiting for a few more seeders before we unleash this on the public. This way, we won't have 100+ people trying to leech off of a single seeder, which we all know is a wonderfully unpleasant experience.

I will say this: it looks fantastic. The menus are great, the cuts are all appropriate, and it has a great feel to it overall. The audio mix is damn good as well, except for the usual issues with people talking/singing/screaming at the top of their lungs right by the mics. Ruiner is, in my opinion, completely unwatchable because of the single person who decided to scream along. At least the taper - or someone near him - asked him to pipe down afterwards.

Sorry, getting negative. Again: this video is, on the whole, completely and utterly fucking fantastic. My sincerest thanks to everyone who taped, recorded, mixed, edited, or had anything to do with this whatsoever.

Just changed the thread title since there's another project out there by joymode and the name is similar.

Well I was expecting to pop here and create a new thread the minute we'd release this thing but looks like someone beat me to the punch.

We'll be going live tomorrow, probably in the evening. Trying to upload a nice 720p version on YouTube for those who can't handle torrent, but I've been having a bunch of connection problems throughout the day... I would have liked to have it up before the torrent goes live because then someone will undoubtely rip the SD DVD version and upload crappy videos which won't do the footage much justice. The files I'm uploading are huge, nearing Blu-Ray bitrates, which is probably why I'm having so much trouble uploading...

ANYWAY. Stay tuned...I'll have lots of things to say about the release once its out. Yes the audio source kinda sucks... Hope that screaming guy gets hit by a bus. Who knows, maybe someday a higher quality source will pop up somewhere...

As one of those set to help seed the project when it goes live, i've already seen the content and its amazing. The edits capture the energy of the show perfectly. Its amazing how quickly a project of this quality was brought to fruition. Great job to everyone involved on this project !

I'm watching it all now, awesome stuff like usual Ash! Also, Ilan's a beast.

The audio isnt bad. There's one dude who sings pretty loud, but at least he knows all the lyrics perfectly, What what in da butt. The actually audio quality is above average I thought.

It's already up in my torrent program ready to seed on release.

refering to the "screaming guy": did you tried to remove the audience a bit with mid/side processing, often this helps a bit to remove some audience noises...

Indeed. The mix itself is absolutely terrific. There are almost enough seeders; expect the good stuff shortly.

i dont understand the sense of adding some seeders more before starting the real thing (except seedbox)
the time you upload the whole thing to your FTP (or if your PC is your FTP the time it takes to download from you) is the same time as you would upload the torrent with initial seed.

If this was uploaded with a single seed, it would be 3-4 days, and there would be endless bitching from people going "ZOMG IT'S GOING SO SLOOOOOOOOOW WHY ISN'T NE1 SEEDING????!?!?!"

Whereas now, we can launch it with close to two dozen seeders, and people will be able to download it quickly without the incessant whining.

who cares about what other people bitching around? Wink (well, ok, not the best argument for me to post now^^)

and i shared my 4GB DVD last time in less then 16 hours with a single coonection of 80kBps yesterday. =)
and in america you have much faster connections (around 150kBps) so you should be done in 8 hours. lets see if you can top that on release^^ Wink

seeya

edit: mhh, so its gonna release? then i have to get some space on my HDD, currently only 3GB left Razz

I watched this last night (and I am seeding)

It's done really well. There were a couple of camera's that I didn't really like that much (but it what there was to work with) but on the flip side, there were some really nice camera angles. The best one is on the left side (stage right) and catches Robin jumping into the crowd perfectly, and Justin using his tiny cymbals! (also managed to catch me in the balcony tweeting and taking photos, haha)

The sound is actually pretty good, there are some times where people are talking but they are saying things like "the entire downward spiral! amazing!" and stuff like that, it actually adds to the experience, because thats what it felt like actually being there.

As far as the screaming guy, they are referring to the part where he yells "Shit" during Hurt. (I noticed this in the original audio recording, and really was the only part that made me go WTF)

There are some crowd interactions like clapping during slow songs, which may annoy some people, but it was really just people getting into it. Truly a great experience.

Overall, a really good edit, and probably the best "Bootleg" of any show that ive been to.

Oh not to mention, the DVD menu's and everything are done very well in the same style as TDS 5.1
