Yet another update on the AVCHD version....I decided to take another stab at it. I'm using a different OS this time, and have installed all the little software bits that I don't think are required. So far, the menu ripped in the right aspect ratio - something that hadn't happened last time - so I think I may be onto something here. There's still at least 11 hours left for just the first pass though, and then at least 12 (probably more) for the second pass. The final product, if it works, will be an HD rip that you can burn onto a DL-DVD and play in your Blu-ray player.

edit: speed has slowed to just over 3 frames a second. Won't know if this worked until at least 9pm (est) tonight...that's 36 hours of encoding without any other processes running. Ugh.

FUCK.

After 36 straight hours of encoding, then another 45 minutes for the DL burn, the latest attempt at an AVCHD is useless. The files encoded properly - I think - but the first menu simply plays, on loop, as a 1:06 long video. The skip forward button has been disabled, so even though it shows up as "Chapter 1/11", I can't get past there.

Fuck me.

rpimonitrbtch has managed to make a 1080p 5.1 video file from the BD and is in the middle of seeding a torrent of it - if you have access to the seeding FTP it's all on there, if you want to help seed.

If you don't have access to the FTP you can grab it from megaupload: http://www.megaupload.com/?f=503WHE52 (although I'm not sure that all the portions are up yet)

well thank you all none the less. I wasn't expecting to receive anything considering I didn't pay for anything. But thanks to the awesomeness that is the ETS community, I have an awesome NIN DVD to sit right next to BYIT.

BTW-Wish on the first disc has a skip in it but the disc is SPOTLESS. Does anyone else have this problem?

In one of the first pages, there are links to the programs you need. There's only one that's a trial version, but you don't even need it since you've already got the ISO created. Get the software you need, then scroll through about the first half of the guide. It looks long, but honestly, you only actually press about five buttons through the entire process. What are your basic computer specs? It might help figure out roughly how long this could take you.

One modification to the guide I'd suggest: instead of making a "movie-only" rip, I'd change the settings in BD Rebuilder to "full" or whatever, in order to keep the menus.

Finally got to my Dad's house to pick up the free copy I ordered when I lived there.

Great work on this! I would like to thank everyone that worked hard on making this happen. Reading the booklet story really was a eye opener on how hard you guys worked on getting this out to us fans, really appreciate it.

Posted this on NIN.com, repeated here as a FYI.

There's probably about 100 sets that will left once everything is mailed - I kept them back to cover replacing damaged items and orders missing because of DB errors. Once these are dealt with, I'll do the last bunch a new way - I'll email two times when they will go on sale (1/2 at a time, to allow ordering in the day time for everyone), so if you miss them this time, well, heheh...

Also, after this is completed, I will be getting individual DVDs and BDs of The Gift organized - so everybody who wants a pressed disc can get something. Just not as complicated as this 3 disc set - it took forever to assemble smiling smiley
