I was fetching a burger from a McDonald's near me just outside Warren Street tube station, when I noticed that the new "upmarket" McDonald's design they'd set up in there was..well, vaguely reminiscent of the art from The Fragile.

At first I thought I was just being an overly-obsessed nutter, but then I noticed the McDonald's logo. Here's some photos for you.

I don't know whether to feel it's a bit shit knowing that McDonald's, of all companies, has NIN-inspired artwork in their outlets, or whether it's cool that some random artist working for McDonald's, or the interior design company they hired, is into NIN.

Anyway, here's some photos as evidence:

This makes it more obvious for those still missing it:

Hasn't that exact flowers picture been used in Fragile-related artwork before? As for the logo, that speaks for itself. Also, the "easy" and "natural" having bits of the letters filled in - is that not actually the Fragile font with a soft blur applied?

Isn't that plagiarism to some extent...

McDonalds has ruined The Fragile for me.

I'll order my burger, they'll get it wrong, I'll scream out loud "AHHHhhh NO YOU DON'T"

Yes - I didn't know he was the artist so didn't name-drop him, but obviously it's him they're ripping off more. Unless he designed it.

It is only good looking because you associate it with the album. Its fucking wrong on so many levels. I wonder if trent is going to get pissed off about this.

Actually if you watch the Fragile promo, you'll see it's made up of almost exclusively elements of that!

Well, yes - obviously if I like the fragile art I'm going to like this. And like I said, I'm not really that pissed off, because I know somewhere that some artist clearly loves NIN. It's like a little nod to anyone in the know. At the same time though, unless Dave Carson actually designed this (though I just checked his web portfolio and there's nothing there about work with Maccy D's), it is a blatent rip-off that makes me feel pissed on behalf of the artist, as it's almost identically stealing his work.

Not -yet- anyway. I'm fairly certain that's his original work. I don't think anyone would have the balls to scan in pictures from Fotografiks and then grab the Fragile font off the NIN Hotline and sell the result to McDonalds.

Nonetheless, that's kind of sad to see.
