First I would like to say that I personally have speant many, many, many hours on vessel, only to start over from scratch just to solve it in just 30 minutes.

Just for a quick review, the vessel clip with the voice in it occurs at 3:03 - 3:06, and is kindof an echoing voice.

Using the techniques achieved from the Capital G song, where we inverted the 1 song and we got "Wreckage is pain", I simply took a very similar synth (to be specific, the one right after the words.), and inverted it, and had to line it up witht he original synth. Now i did not do this perfectly, but It made the voice alot clearer. I then did a quick noise removal, high and low pass filtered it, used the fft filter, and then normalized it.

After listening to it over I was hearing... "___ct _____ic" and I thought the second word started with a P, such as Perfect. After listening to it more, I made the second word out to Patriotic, and the first to.... you guessed it... Act.

Now people who have listened to say that now they can hear it in the original song as well as my filtered version, and some say that it fits the bill, but it isnt concrete enough to say that its 100% what the voice is saying.

You might not agree with me, but as of right now, this is pretty much the only explanation we have for Actpatriotic, and unfortunatly, the site was taken down due to us brute forcing it via IP adresses. Maybe now since we found the actual source of it, 42 would be kind to put it back up for us.

BTW in most of the song samples I accidently cropped of the full pronounced "C" at the end of patriotic. You can hear it almost being said, but i cut it from the original sound file early on. If you want to hear it in its entirity, do it yourself.

Anyway: Works

Alas i was around when it was found,I was around when it was lost.
I'd have to say that it may have been the final blow, not long after it went down the e24 site came up.(if the game is over)

Edit:I didnt think that they would take it down because of brute force really.

I really doubt they took it down because of the Brute Forcing. 42 Do ARG's professionally, and have done plenty of them before - you think they don't realise some people are going to break the rules? That's why they had the 'data in transit' placeholder... if they didnt think someone would find these pages before they were supposed to, why would they bother with it?

Anyway, awesome job on finding it!

Excellent find! Very Happy

Now, whether 42 and/or Trent notices this and does something with it remains to be seen...

Bravo! I've been dying to see the connection from/to that site, so kudos on finding it. And now I'm just eager to see the site itself....*sigh*

Great find!

I also don't think that's the reason Act Patriotic was taken down.

I don't think it will be put back up.... kinda- as in the URL... let me explain my theory:

Facts:

  1. 14 Feb: Act Patriotic registered

    • found on 19 Apr
    • data stream is 24.11

  2. 19 Apr: Exhibit24 registered

    • the only unused 24.xx (24.4.1) was filled in with an unfound website
    • Act Patriotic isn't listed
    • 24.11 is filled in and complete from LA

  3. 23 Apr: Hour Of Arrival registered (notice this is after Exhibit24)
  4. 26 Apr:

    • Act Patriotic taken off line
    • Exhibit 24 found.

  5. 27 Apr: phone message for us to find Hour Of Arrival

So, I think that what is Hour of Arrival, was initially intended to be Act Patriotic... AP was registerred from the beginning and now it would seem to be in the song.

The reason for the change of the URL is because the stream was a typo... it wasn't supposed to be 24.11... it was supposed to be 24.4 OR it was an oversight of 24.4 not being filled in... either way...

While preparing Exhibit24, they noticed the mistake... made the new site, took AP off line, made a phone call to fix the mistake

I have to commend you for your persistence in finding this clue in the audio! Great job!

Damn, Bwary, thanks for that info.

I had heard different parts of it but never in a single, cohesive time line. Hell, they probably weren't even in the same thread.

So what would have happened if people had figured this one out quite early, like they did with, say, Red Horse Vector? I'm not sure I understand why the site wouldn't have been live in case of such an eventuality, since couldn't it have happened at any time?

By the way...kudos to actually uncovering this. I only wish it was leading us to something!

(FWIW- the site was live. live means something was on the server. That term has been misused. not live means nothing on the server.)

If the community had found the clue before the site was taken off-line, they could have added it as 24.11.4 with the LA series and figured out something for the missing 24.4. It's been clear they have been flexible, not rigid, as they must in order for the ARG to work. The way I see it; there was an error that had to be addressed, the real clue hadn't been found in time, and this was an acceptable fix.

This couldn't have been figured out until the CD was out.

Point taken about misusing the term "live." It's shorthand under the circumstances, I suppose. And...I dunno, I'm actually disinclined to believe that Act Patriotic and Hour of Arrival are one and the same. Just in terms of a title, "Act Patriotic" doesn't really fit for me with the content of Hour of Arrival. But that's neither here nor there, I guess.

Anyway...so Act Patriotic was first spotted when? I can't keep track anymore. Early April? So do you think that if the in-game solution was posted on the boards, that 42 would have quickly updated Act Patriotic to include its original intended content? The problem there is that you would get the solution but wouldn't be able to make use of it immediately, since you would still just get the placeholder page...I dunno, if we ever get to have a post-game chat with the developers (which they've been known to do), I think the whole Act Patriotic situation should definitely be addressed just to clear everything up once and for all.

I'm not completely sure when it was first discussed on the wiki prior to ETS, but it's thread started here on the 20th... so it must have been at least, if not earlier than, the 19th.

as you know with busting the text from the other placeholder sites... we kept going back and checking them to see if they were updated... and of course, they were.

hm... Wonder what that's about. I've just checked to see if there's anymore unlinked images and I found http://yearzero.nin.com/img/03.jpg and http://yearzero.nin.com/img/06.jpg, which are identical except that the 06.jpg seems to have more red added..

Nope, they're identical. I just checked in photoshop, and they cancel each other perfectly... no differences.

I had also noticed what each of you said... there is one slight difference if you get picky... the old one 03 is 95kb and the new one 06 is 98kb

EDIT: looks like the slight difference is because the new one has more exif data the old one didn't

Then how is it that I just did a transition between the two and 06.jpg is distinctly darker?
