Please post all of your garbage about disliking NIN because you're a Republican in this thread. Any other new threads will promptly be locked. Thanks.
(This thread will be pinned for as long as it takes for people to start using it appropriately, at which point it'll be unpinned.)

There's no censorship issues. You can say what you damn well feel like, We just don't have to be annoyed by it. If someone truly cares they'll post in here.

It has nothing to do with censorship, you dumb motherfucker. It has everything to do with trying to clean up the mess this forum has turned into due to fucktards who create new threads whenever it strikes their fancy, even if there are already 258 threads about the same fucking topic. So post whatever you like about NIN and politics in this thread, and EAT MY SHIT AND DIE.

If they were trying to envoke censorship, they wouldn't allow you to speak how you feel about Trent's stance on things that are political.
The admins are giving you an official thread to vent about this bullshit. It's hardly censorship.
EDIT: Whoops, sorry Drunkpoet. You posted the same thing as me. Sorry.

Right, thanks. No problem.
And on that note, enough about censorship. Let's get back on topic. If you aren't going to post about NIN and politics, then don't post in this thread.

Maybe it is a picture of him choking on a pretzel. SWALLOW IT ALL SWALLOW IT ALL.
Wouldn't it have been funny if MTV allowed them to play and they ended up playing "you know what you are?" instead of the hand that feeds, screaming to a picture of Bush "DONT YOU FUCKING KNOW WHAT YOU ARE?"

OK. I am sick of Republicans on here asking me to respect their fucking opinion, and other people saying Trent shouldn't be involved in political issues.
First to the Bush supporters: You know what, if you're a Bush supporter, I don't respect you, or your opinion. That's it. I'm sick of this fake attempt at diplomacy Bush supporters show towards non Bush supporters. This president is a man who blatantly lied to bring his country to war, a war that has cost the world hundreds of thousands of lives-- That is how how high the civilian casualty rate has climbed-- Really think about that for a moment: Hundreds of thousands of lives, and counting, because of what Fox News calls an "unfortunate mistake." Incredible.
This is president is a man who openly opposes a woman's right to choose, even in the case of incest or rape, and has already made it impossible for women in combat.
This is a man who has fought against, and already severely limited funding to stem cell research, even though fetuses ARE NOT being used in the research. Stem cell research has already proven to benefit everything from cancer victims to paralysis victims, and Bush wants to stop it because he thinks it's anti Christian. He is limiting a discovery that is the medical equivalent of atomic energy, and he's done this based on superstition.
This is a man who has openly denounced gay rights. This is a man who's Vice President openly voted against Martin Luther King day, and against anti-segregation laws.
This is a man who has allowed women's wages to remain lower than men's. This is a man who has gutted almost every environmental program the states has going in the middle of the night. This is a man who has been charged with criminal offenses.
...And, perhaps most ironically, this is a man who has NEVER EVER respected anyone's opinion besides his own. So, you know what? I'm at the end of the line. If you're a Bush supporter, I don't respect you, and I never will. You are truly everything that is wrong with modern civilization.
Now to the people who say Trent should stay out of politics: I am grateful that I am a fan of Trent Reznor, who believes that speaking out against an administration that is nothing more than a thinly veiled racist, homophobic, sexist, war-mongering, religious zealot machine is worth while, like any compassionate person should. People with intelligence and heart care about things that are very clearly hurting our world and what we all believe in. The fight didn't end at the election.
Wake up.

You've missed the point.
TR writes one, possibly, political song and you bale on him...obviously you aren't a fan at all. You are speaking of censorship but expect TR to censor his music. I'd bet if he were singing "All hail George Bush" you'd still like him.
Everyone has a right to speak out even the famous and if you no longer want to be a fan of you have that right too.
It's the people that don't stand up for what they believe that piss me off the most.

that was some harsh rhetoric, but you know what?
as a right-leaning independent (a "neo-con" if you will), I still respect your opinion...as fault riddled as it is
we'd never agree on a political dimension, but you have to marvel at the fact that we live in a country that supports such diversity and are governed on such democratic principles...
simply put, my opinion as that all the Bush-hating lefties sound too whacko for the majority of Americans and that is why you aren't in a position of power in this country
try to develop a more sound, sane agenda rather than the "Bush is the evil" sermon, and maybe you'll have a shot in 2006, 2008

I was going to post this in a thread that has since been locked; maybe it's a little out of context now, but it seems a shame to waste a really good head of steam.
The "if you're not with us, you're against us" meme is all over everything, it seems. NIN has been at the epicenter of the American culture wars for 10 years now; in summer '95, it was practically all we talked about for a while. This is nothing new, but the rules of engagement have changed. There are representatives of a radical minority in this country who have spent every moment since then elbowing their way to the front of the national conversation pit. Their percentage of the vote gave Bush a key portion of his 50.7 percent "mandate" in November, and now they're cashing in that IOU with a vengeance
These people aren't interested in sharing power. They're interested in establishing an American theocracy. There's nothing subtle or coded about their rhetoric, either. If nothing else, they're very upfront about their aims. And if the law still permits you to speak your mind, or express some dissent, or listen to music that encourages any of the above...well, they'll burn that bridge when they come to it.
Even Bush supporters can support what Reznor and the band are doing, if they support the idea of the constitutional freedoms they claim to hold so highly that they're willing to impose them upon other countries through main force. This is one reason why I'll contend that what Maury called the "hamfisted late-out-the-gate politics" of the situation are just a reflection of another common experience many of us have had of the new and possibly permanent culture war. Many, many people I know were radicalized by the last election. Assaults on our basic rights and progressive institutions are coming from every front, indeed in the middle of the night (and in the middle of huge omnibus appropriations bills, one of which would have given Congresspersons and their "designees" the right to prowl through your IRS returns at the drop of a whim). What do you really think the Nuclear Option was about? Why do you think Dr. Frist, whose presidential ambitions are as naked as they are delusional, refused to compromise? And why do you think Rev. Dobson is calling the Cat-Killer a failure for not suppressing by any means necessary the compromise that did happen?
You don't have to get up early to turn back this tide -- you have to stay up all night. You have to be willing and able to take a lot of shit and stay focused. It's not for sissies, and it's not for trend-hoppers, either. The repercussions are real and can last for a long time.
That's okay, too. Sooner or later you'll have to choose a battle of your own. Watch and learn.
(And now I need to go switch to decaf. Apparently.)

I still really appreciate this message that was posted in the locked thread.. makes alot of sense to me.

Its nothing to be ashamed of, most of you are young and when you are being bombarded from all outlets with propaganda, conflicting messages and a massive attempt to control your mind, things get a little confusing. This message is to help you to know your enemy.
George Bush is a tool used by a much larger movement affectionately known as the neo-cons. This group wants 2 things - power and money, and they know how to go about getting them. Primarily, they want to scare the hell out of you. But if you know that this is their intention, then their techniques won't be nearly as effective. So they use subtle techniques, like warning you about a country that is losing its "family values (BOO! Gays and bastard children born out of wedlock). They talk about "evildoers" (BOO! People with different beliefs than you), and they talk about the scary future (BOO! We're all going to die poor with no healthcare).
In order to achieve their ends (scaring the shit out of you enough so you never even consider their true motives), they put pressure on the spineless media machine (Fox television, talk radio, and yes your beloved MTV). If the media doesn't do as they're told, they will lose advertising money and they will have to fight the FCC, a media-gestapo that does not seem to serve any legitimate purpose.
If you figure out the big picture, their carefully orchestrated horrow show will fail. THIS CANNOT BE ALLOWED TO HAPPEN. Hence, MTV must stay in line. News organizations must never question the all-knowing neo-cons (did you see what happened when news reports leaked that Bush did not serve his military duty, and how dare we even think that this war was based on false pretenses).
Trent came a little too close to calling attention to this situation, and I don't think MTV and Trent just "agreed to disagree" and go their separate ways. MTV knows there will be consequences for disrupting the regularly scheduled duties of the media machine (pumping your head full of graphic images of STRAIGHT sex, video games, sports figures, and other things you should spend your mind worrying about.) They almost fucked up the whole deal.
Thanks Trent for the effort, but this enemy is stronger than we think.
I am looking forward to your responses about this little expose. If you are a jackass I will ignore you, but if anyone has any intelligent responses, please help me to continue this argument.

This shit is exactly the reason why I didn't vote for Kerry in the last election. The extreme left wing is allowed to express their opinion, but if your a republican then your shit on the ground.
Bush never lied. The intellegence that he based the war was bad, but the intellegence could of prevented 9-11 is even worse looking. We need to act proactively against terrorist.
