I've been lurking for a while, but I followed a link to some fucker's creepy bullshit blog that posted on ETS somewhere else and was furious as to some of the shit they had to say to Trent:

See, I guess I was under the mistaken impression that you were still a rock star. That you didn’t give a shit about what The Man thought, and that you were the guiding light of your own destiny. Well, Trent, either there was a misprint in the marketing materials and somebody forgot to mention that live: with_dentures was a Greatest Hits tour, or you’re just being a pussy.

Who the hell do these people think they are talking shit about TR? I hate this bullshit! They should just be happy that got to see the new shows in the first place!

there will always be someone who says something dumb like that to get attention or who think that everyone should listen to their opinion. i was on the amtrak train from santa barbara to san francisco and got stuck next to a guy in a metallica shirt telling me that NIN sucked because trent wasn't trying to kill himself and "he doesn't slit his wrists anymore" (i'm dead serious this is what he said). so don't pay too much mind to it and remember- TR doesn't care what those people think and has more to do (like make music, tour, walk daisy... i dunno but you get what i mean) and most likely will never read what that person says anyway.

Greatest Hits tour my ass. Have they played Down In It? How many times has Sin been played? What a fag.

Haha, none of his comments are positive.

although not playing only, rwib, or byit. Atlitw would even be a great song to hear live. i'm thinking that a major part is like he said before the tour "I'm not sure as to our relevance, etc. etc. (regarding why the tour was the way it was)." They probably didn't practice tHem and they will have a Chance during the fall leg of the us tour.

Thats my thought. This is a little 15 city stint or whatever, this isnt a full tour. He said in interviews that they had about 35 songs they had practiced and they play about 20 a show. That doesnt leave much room for a LOT of change in the setlists, and they dont have all the time in the world to practice the new album.

Trent said the music will change over time. We are going to get a bigger tour, we need to have faith.

I for one am not going to dignify that fuckers blog with an email to him or a comment there.

*sigh* Yet another fool who doesn't understand that (a) you're not the same person at 40 that you were at 25, and frequently that's a VERY good thing; and (b) you don't have to be morose and suicidal 24/7/365 to make your work that much more "authentic". I wish I could remember the exact quote, but a number of years back someone asked Bonnie Raitt (who, from all accounts, is a very cool lady and a real sweetheart) how she could still sing bluesy or sad songs when, at that point, her life was pretty damn spiffy; her response was that just because you're happy now doesn't mean that you forget where you've been in the past, and that's still there for you to tap if needed.

I certainly don't expect Trent to thrash around physically the way he did 10 years ago, and I damn sure don't want him to feel he has to be on the verge of snuffing himself just to "keep it real" on my behalf, and I really don't think anyone else here feels that way, either. Hint to clueless blogger: Believe it or not, rock stars are real live human beings who grow and change over time, and who don't have to wear their onstage persona all the time...deal with it!

If you follow that link to the comments section of the latest blog... You will see a message from Peter which say's "I wish more NIN fans would have the balls to tell it like it is." So true.

Back in March, I went to the 2 London NIN concerts and throughly enjoyed myself. As they were the first concerts I'd ever been to, I was too busy being excited than worrying about the setlist and wanting certain songs played... Sure enough, Trent delivered, playing one of my fave NIN songs, "Reptile" along with other surprises, "Burn", "TDTWWA" and "The Big Come Down"... Great!

Since then, I've been following closely the setlist's of the concerts Trent & Co. have done since and I have to say I'm really disappointed that apart from a few minor changes, it appears to be the same setlist everytime... There's no major variation at all...

HAS TRENT FORGOTTEN THAT HE RELEASED A NEW RECORD RECENTLY?! Where the hell are the With Teeth songs? So far he's played 8 of the 13 WT songs live which itself is pathetic statistic... NOT TO MENTION THE FACT THAT HE'S PUTTING OUT A TDS/FRAGILITY ERA SETLIST with a couple of WT songs every night (along with the mandatory PHM songs)...

I have tickets for all 4 Brixton gigs and one for the Birmingham gig when NIN return to England in July but I am seriously considering selling all because I don't want to see the same songs all over again...

Dude! It's a fucking WARM UP TOUR!
I mean come on,they haven't played in ages and have new members and wanna get fucking comfortable before tackling the more harder to appraoch in a live setting songs.
Thats like saying "Well fuck I just got the cast off my legs yesterday I think I'll go bungie jumping and run a marathon!".
I seriously hope I'm making sense.
I'm a musician and I'll tell you when you haven't played in front of people in a long while at all your'e a little (MORE THAN A LITTLE) scared off your ass and wanna do what is comfortable.
Be fucking glad whats comfortable to them is WHAT YOU GOT and NOT a fucking set of muppets clasics or fucking 90 minutes of elvis and osmond covers with an encore of Freebird played on the fucking kaazoo.

BE FUCKING HAPPY!
MORE WITH TEETH SONGS WILL COME OUT EVENTUALLY IF YOU HOLD ON TO YOUR FUCKING BALLS AND SHOW SOME PATIENCE.

jesus christ people, look back at their other tours it's not like they have came out every time and played the whole fucking cd right through (with the exception of PHM '90 because they really didn't have much else).
They have always just brought out different setlists as they get comfortable with the new songs.
Sometimes whats been on a cd just won't translate to a live crowd at all.
It does happen and if it does don't damn Trent because he put out a complex song and it won't go well live WITH_PEOPLE.
Just be glad you have seen them and glad that something shitty doesn't happen to him like did to Dimebag man.
I could sit and bitch about the Pantera shows I saw but these days after all thats gone down I would rather be damn glad I saw them on a stage together and alive.
I'll quit ranting right now but I really hope that some of this has made some sense to all of you who have been bitching and pissing your pants.

Hey everybody, this is Gabriel, the "fucker" with the "creepy bullshit blog".

I agree that Trent is not the same human being or performer at 40 that he was 10 years ago, and that was the whole point of the entry that got linked: he's been playing the same setlists full of the music of the angry, destroyed, emotionally corrupt Trent that we've loved for years, and he's not the same guy anymore.

Do I think his new look is wierd, considering I grew up with him in the TDS era? Of course - it's a bit wierd to have your hero suddenly look like your Dad. But [With_Teeth] is a fucking AWESOME record, and a very positive one at that, and I think he should be playing these new songs to reflect this new man that he is these days. I think it would make a lot more sense for this New Trent to play WT in it's entirety, for example, than to play "head like a hole", "closer", and especially "hurt" just because they're his hits.

I think at this point he doesn't quite know where he stands with his fan base, and is therefore playing it safe by playing the songs he knows everyone loves (instead of the songs off his #1 album). Which is understandable -- but it also sucks a little.

Uh... Youve been to a concert before? Its not much of a surprise that MOST bands hardly change the setlist at all during the tour, save for maybe 2 or 3 songs.

I don't know any 'Dads' who look like Trent but I may have friends/acquaintances with unattractive fathers. Also, last I checked 40 is still young especially when you're taking good care of yourself.

Considering how fast this 'club' tour sold out, and the unbelievable number of people who weren't able to get tickets, I think Trent knows where he stands with his fans. Hence, the fall tour.

Past set lists have always included a hits package simply b/c these songs work well live and they're crowd-pleasers (AATCHB?). They're rehearsing the new material now and will include songs that translate well into the fall shows. So that should give you something to look forward to.

Wow.....your dad must be built then! And who gives a fuck about his "look"? That's just shallow, media bullshit. I mean, how dare he look older! Do you want him to run out and get plastic surgery? Or do you want him to just run around in makeup, cornstarch and rubber shorts with fishnet on his arms? Jesus Christ!
And he did try to fit EDIETS into the set list (I got to hear it, and I LOVED it live), but all the reviews I read said that the song didn't go too well with the audience (I didn't notice that from my position at the stage rail). Maybe that's why he hasn't played it more. Remember - this is a warm-up tour. Give the guy a break. And I've never seen anyone perform with his intensity - even without makeup, cornstarch, and the whole angsty like.

Gabriel, what you're saying seems to be "it sucks that he's playing Closer and Hurt because that's not who he is anymore, he's just doing it to please the fans."

I guess that makes some sense, but I don't agree. I don't think it's disingenuine to play a song that was a better reflection of who he was ten years ago than now, provided it was genuine when he wrote it. If anything, I'd think playing those songs live would be a great way to both celebrate the fact that he's changed, and share the music with other people who might need to hear the message of "Hurt" now more than he does.

if someone asked Trent-Do you relate to "Hurt" anymore,I'm not sure the answer would be No.

how old was Johnny Cash when he sang "Hurt"?All this b.s. about age is absurd.Maybe its because some of the fans are so young.

Bu to me,40 is not old at all.Why is it that no one calls MJK or Chris Cornell or Michael Stipe or Robert Smith or Morrissey, etc "old" (all 40 or older)?Or beyond alternative rock,Bruce Springsteen or Bob Dylan or David Bowie?

Trent was 25 in PRM.Its not Trent's fault that you didnt grow up with him then.

and Trent looks nothing like my dad.Maybe my older brother.

I love EDIETS.Relate to it more then any other song on WT.Hope its on the setlist of the arena tour.Cant imagine a crowd hating it.

Gabriel,

This is what you get for being such a hater. Trent is as great now as he ever was, and the only reason you can't see that is because you have your own issues. Also, I've met your dad, and Trent is about 1,000,000 times hotter than your dad ever dreamed of being.

I wish he were playing the new songs, too, but I have faith that in time, he's going to work them in. He's been out of comission for a long time, and if there's anything that was perfectly clear at Coachella, last time he was out on the road, he was a different man. Maybe he just needs some time to find a new way.

As for his look, like I said on the comments to our blog, QUIT LOOKING AT THE SHELL, man. It's so shallow. That's the same Trent we've always loved. So maybe he has a new Incredible Hulk-style look, he's still the guy who wrote "Purest Feeling." But you know what? If he wrote that shit at 40, he'd be totally pathetic.

Maybe if you weren't so threatened by your own conflictedness, you'd be able to see that, and let Trent be Trent.

Cruel to be kind, Gabriel. Don't hate me too much.

Love,
Dierdre
