Hi! First time post here...

Is there a correlation between the numbers on the websites and this audio file?

it sounds like at the beginning of that file it says "its a phone number" and I get 864-553-8048 that number gives an error code 14.94-1 but it sounds like the phone company

not sure what the first few numbers are, but it appears that the file is long enough to contain a phone number.

Awesome work! I've been doing the same thing, and these are the numbers I think I'm hearing:

8 4 5 5 8 0 4

Now that you point it out, I can hear the hint of a 3 after the second 5. Assuming all the numbers are correct, that gives us 8 out of the 10 numbers needed to construct a phone number. At the very least, it seems we can be pretty confident about the 6 shared numbers and the order they're in. Here's my sound file if anybody wants to mess with it:

That version of the file was from a bit ago, here is an updated version that is what I have as of about an hour ago:

http://www.zshare.net/download/oet_working_2-aif.html

The "its a phone number" or "escape number" in the beginning is purely coincidental - those sounds just happen to be sitting next to each other for storage reasons/keeping them out of the way - im not sure where they plug in yet, but they definitely do not go together.

That very faint number sound however, does appear to be where it should be.

I hear bits of "six" and "eight" at the start too, but I'm having a hard time placing them in the sequence because the tone is so hard to hear over the voice.

It also looks like there is a very faint possible second voice: there are patterns in the 14-18khz range that are similar to the voice patterns at the bottom of the spectrograph. These might correlate with the voice we hear primarily, or it might be another hidden data set. I'll check into those when I have the reorganization done.

if you open the file in the apple loop utility, the first two thirds of the file has normal loop markers, but there is a large portion near the end that has no markers at all. if you set it as looping and change the tempo to 76bpm, you can make the last marker line up with the end of the file. the markers also appear to line up with the transients that way. i think this reveals which segments are meant to be rearranged, rather than trying to do it by ear or by eye!

it makes more sense if you have access to a mac and can try it yourself....

I spent sometime on an online anagram finder and I think "Our End Trip" is an anagram for Put In Order. We must have to cut this audio up and put back in order!! The key has to be cutting it to the tone on the right side. Has anyone had any luck with that yet?

I knew someone was gonna have to do some rearranging the first time I heard it. There's at least two or three different things being played in that clip, and they're all jumbled together.

I'm hearing 04553804 with this file. There's a lot of phone numbers (through Google) of "455-3804".

What range is that ascending tone in, by the way? It's neat how that was included to help put this together.

Edit: So I took a long shot and added the 310 Los Angeles area code to "455-3804" since I hear a 0 at the begining of the file, but nope, the number's been disconnected. Sorry :S

The best I've been able to do is:
(garbled +/- .8 sec) number 8 6 4 5 5 3 8 0 4

as a phone number it would something like (*86) 455-3804

at least if it is a US phone number.

The only US area codes ending in 86 are

786 (miami)
386 (Daytona beach)
586 (somewhere in Michigan)

Of these miami seems the most likely canidate. Somebody might wanna try this at a more decent hour. (If it is somebody's home phone they are gonna be pretty pissed if you call at 5 am)

hmmm, could be 786 or 386, since Florida seems to have some kind of connection.... I'm going to leave this to the experts in the IRC chat.

Ok, this is enough for me, I'm going to bed.

ETS kids i'm disappointed in you. what the fuck, you've known about what appears to be a legitimate puzzle for, like, twelve hours! and you haven't cracked it yet? what the fuck.

pretty soon you're going to have trent making posts like blair:

I've fooled around with the file that KyleEasterly originally posted. Here's a link to what I've got: http://www.zshare.net/audio/test-wav-fs8.html
I'm pretty sure that the voice is saying "case number 6455B804" (though that case number could be 6455BH04 as well); I moved a few sections around at the beginning in order to get a continuous tone. I have no idea with which website this would go; judsonogram.net has a place for a case identifier with 8 alphanumerics... but it doesn't work there. We probably need more information.

Hmm, sounds like it could work for US Wiretap:

http://www.uswiretap.com/case_number_required/

The previous case number was at:

http://www.uswiretap.com/71839J/

The two case numbers you listed don't seem to work, though.

I was listening to this on my headphones and noticed that the thing is in stereo with the chopped speech on the right and a strange electronic beeping on the left. Has anyone done a spectrograph on the beeping only. Perhaps that is the key rather than the more obvious speech portion.

I don't have the capability to separate the the channels or I would try this myself.

Congrats, cynicmuse and KyleEasterly Smile I posted about your success in the unfiction topic.

I've been wracking my brain over the Radio Noise file. It's a ton of different sounds compressed, then frequency shifted, then combined into a single file.

Run bandpass/bandstop filters on it, and it's completely obvious. I can even make out some words, but barely... run a bandpass from 1660 Hz to 3660 Hz (or 1500 - 3500 if it's more clear to you).

It sounds like two male voices in a conversation, one breaking into a security system.

"You're penetrating!" "It's functionally more like... reconditioning." "No no no no no, you're penetrating! If you can't give it a functional security code -- " "I haven't been able to, but if (something something) I should be able to get in. Come on, come on..."

I don't know. Try it, let me know what you hear. I have a sinking feeling that this is going to be like the Our End Trip puzzle -- except vertically on the spectrogram.

Edit: http://adb.thefortytwo.net/misc/security.mp3

Here's an mp3 of the processed sound, in case you don't have the ability to run stuff through bandpass filters. Razz Go easy on my webspace though >_>

nice work cynicmuse,

i was in the process of putting together what u had there when i found your post. saves me a couple of hours Very Happy

thats gotta be it though, its relitively clear as to what hes saying i dunno how it could be anything else, and the humming sound smooth too.

perhaps it could be 6455DA04... still sound more like an 8 than an A or H to me though...

I dunno if something is wrong with your edit or if we need more info (new website... name/password etc?) but nothing seems to be working on the known sites so far... that i've found... could be wrong

EDIT: lol, i was right

Ive just been messing around with the radio noise file too but havnt found anything to suggest it would have any clues in it, seems to be about 6 different snippets from news reports all about random things, 1 of which was played backwards... i dunno, i think all this audio messing around might be screwing with my brain and making hear thing that arent there.
