So I follow the Billboard music charts rather closely. I am weird with numbers and record sales; that shit fascinates me. With that said, I have never seen a song DEBUT so high on the Modern Rock chart. I know that a few years back, one of Creeds putrid tunes debuted at #1 on the Mainstream Rock Chart (but the nature of the charts are very different).
Anyway, this seems to bode well for the future record sales of ''With Teeth''..........thoughts?

Its far too early to anticipate the possible success of With Teeth by analyzing the interest in a new single. NIN dissapeared off the face of the planet for a ridiculously long time- they have a huge fanbase... of course the first new offering from them is going to stir up that group and get them clamouring to hear the material. It is not, however, a sufficient indicator of how much people like the song at all.
All it means is that people want to hear it.

Sorry, but I don't know what this means exactly. It can't be from sales because nobody can buy it yet that I know of.
So this is just requests to radio stations? Which radio stations? I haven't heard it on radio at all, but I live in a culturally deprived backwater. My best friend said they are playing it a LOT in Kansas City though.
I requested it a couple of times from the local "alternative" station here and they said they were playing it a couple of times a day. I only listen to radio in the car so I haven't heard it yet. I will keep requesting it on the cell and asking them to play it very soon, but they haven't yet. Philistines!
When it can be purchased will that count toward the rating? How will the different versions affect how it gets counted? I think I remember a thread about how AATCHB wasn't given a proper rating because they counted the different versions separately. Sorry for all the ignorant questions, I just don't know anything about this stuff.

This has nothing to do with ''sales'', it has to do with ''literal spins''......if you go to RadioandRecords.com then you can see a breakdown of how many times a song got played in a week (although the positions vary slightly because radioandrecords using 3 formats for ''Rock'' as opposed to Billboard's 2 >modern and mainstream>)...
In terms of AATCHB, billboard broke that release up into 2 seperate releases....one, was just the regular live, one disc concert (which, to this day puzzles me as to why someone would have bought this)...and the other one was the Live disc along with Still...........if you had added the first week sales of those 2 releases, AATCHB would have debuted at #12 on the Billboard 200 (albums). Instead you got something like, a #35 and #54 entry (with STILL BEING THE LOWER OF THE 2!!)...not too shabby for a horribly under-marketed, live album

still.. at this point, the indictations of these spins is impossible to calculate...
They show no indication of whether or not people like the song, just that alot of people want to hear it.
The new single off With Teeth could be 5 minutes of pitch-warped fart samples run in reverse, and still it would get requested a ton and would therefore get spins.
If it continues to hold on the charts, or even better for NIN, move up the charts, that would indicate something more substantial.
We all know that there are alot of people interested to hear what the new NIN is going to sound like... whether or not people respond to it well is a whole different thing.

AATCHB was considered 2 completely different releases since one was a 2 disc version and one was a 1 disc version, the 2 disc was probably considered by them to be more like a box set. The Dual Disc and CD versions of WITH TEETH will almost definitely be counted as 1 release on the Billboard charts.

NIN had been gone for a while when WITT came out and at that point everyone was waiting for the follow-up to one of the biggest rock records of the 90s, and it didn't debut nearly as high. People love THTF, I have talked to a bunch of DJs and they've said the response has been amazing. NIN fans love it, listeners love it, the DJs love it, etc. This bodes very well for WITH TEETH and I could not be happier.

Yeah, you can call me Failure...it's a reference to my favorite band of all-time (not my success, or lack-there-off in life).
You can view the chart here:
http://www.billboard.com/bb/charts/airplay/modern.jsp
Make sure that it is the April 2nd Chart
...I really think that it may shoot all the way to number 1 this week. If the NY K-Rock's airplay is any indication; then it definitely will..

I'm telling everyone....this record is going to be huge......brace yourselves!

it knocked will smith out of the number 1 spot, there's no doubt in my mind this album will hit #1, I just hope it stays there for a long time.
Also, the amount of airplay is an indication that it will sell high. For one, radioheads will buy into any song they claim is good (given THTF is one of a very few that are good on radio). Second it's getting major hype from DJs, and third fans keep requesting it! They wouldn't request it if they didn't like it, they wouldn't want to hear it again if they didn't like it.

My school newspaper got a promo copy of THTF in the mail today. Maybe they will let me review it, that way I can help it stay at #1!

I think you should steal it! What are they gonna do with it anyway?
It will probably end up in some box in some dank-ass utility room for the next 40 years, at which point some punk kid will find it and throw it away.

I can't beleive my eyes...THIS WEEK; Nine Inch Nails has the Hot 100's top debut with "The Hand That Feeds" opening at No. 31..
We are talking the HOT 100 folks...this is the fucking land of 50 Cent, Toby Keith, Destiny's Child, Omarion, and all the other souless flotsam that thrives in the mainstream.....To put it in perspective somewhat, Green Day's new single (holiday or some shit) debuts this week at number 98!! This is the same Green Day who (as of a year ago was seemingly and thankfully forgetten) is still selling 100,000 units a week over 6 months since the release of their latest crap.
I don't care what anyone says..this bodes extremely well for the sales of With Teeth. I'm not saying they are going to go multi-platinum or anything, but I garentee that they will sell 300,000 units in their first week (which is huge):
