It's really weird... Am I the only one counting six band members on that picture ?

one's probably Rob or stage crew.

Nope.

Seton Hall's 89.5 WSOU plays NIN more frequently, especially in the mornings, and a lot of times they include them in their double-shot play specials. YKWYA and Getting Smaller this morning! They always play non-hits.... I heard The Becoming two weeks ago.

V Yep, theruiner. You figured it out.

Hmmm the 2 silhouettes between Alessandro and trent look like what you'd see during Terrible Lie, since they had the red lighting in the back and the stage silhouettes in the lighting.

It looks like the screen is lowered in front of the band though...

You see the grid-like screen at the same height of the band, not above them like in Terrible Lie... Hmmm...

Yea I was thinking if it's the screen in front of the band, or being projected like the silhouettes, or both. Rehersal perhaps?

What did the visuals look like when they played "8 Ghosts I" in Philly?

Someone on nin.com asked me about this picture, and I feel compelled to explain what I think it might be, as I'm surprised to even see it.

During production rehearsals we discovered that flickering a solid red frame quickly from one screen to the next when all three screens were down created a disorienting effect of alternating silhouettes of the band members. That led us to a cool gag for THTF where we filmed the band members performing in front of a white backdrop, and used that to create black silhouette videos of each guy playing the song. Then we sized them to be proportionate with the actual band members on the stage, and as the red flickered from screen to screen, occasionally it would have a band member on it. The result was that, if we used the fake silhouettes sparingly, you started to lose track of who was real and who wasn't, and it seemed like every once in a while there were a couple extra people on stage, and then there weren't.

Ultimately though, due to THTF's place in the set, everyone kind of agreed after playing through all the songs that having that gag in there was simply too much. We felt Only should be the visual climax of the show, and that another 3-screen song would be keeping the band behind the LED cage for too long. So it was scrapped after the first performance, and THTF went to a traditional light show - I'm pretty sure the private rehearsal show was the only time THTF was ever played with those visuals. Later in the tour we remembered the George Bush idea from the scrapped MTV performance, and decided to update it for THTF in the show.

We liked the silhouette idea and had always wanted to reintroduce it, but were never able to find the right place for it.

Good call overall, I think. It's a cool visual, but there's something about THTF that would make it feel weird to watch. It's a pretty raw song.

And that's all MTV were getting wound up about? Pft.

That's the most brilliant stage concept I've ever fucking heard of--and that said of an act whose shows are always breathtaking and multireferential, for those who care to delve deeper than "pretty lights." And it absolutely underscores the duality/what is reality/multipersonality themes of With Teeth. It would be perfect for "The Line Begins to Blur."

And I'm willing to hand out bribes to make that happen.

The effect is pretty damn cool. I kind of wish it was still included in the LITS experience, but I guess it just wasn't meant to be...

Five Tips for Musicians to Engage Their Fans Digitally

they mention us

Nine Inch Nails fans are notorious for being a tight-knit community; technology that engages them will not work for an artist whose fans are simply into their music and not the associated community.
