Years Of Refusal: New album information; Southpaw Grammar: Remastered version details; Ireland festival and concert dates

30 May 2008

Morrissey's new studio album 'Years of Refusal' is now complete, and is set for a September release by Polydor UK (Universal). It has yet to be decided which Universal label will release the album in the US.
'Years of Refusal' has 12 tracks and is produced by Jerry Finn.
Prior to this, Sony-BMG will issue a remastered version of 'Southpaw Grammar' in July. This album, first released in 1995, will include three previously unreleased tracks, and new artwork.
In addition to the Cork Festival on June 26th, Morrissey will play a concert at Kilmainham Hospital in Dublin on June 28th.

AWESOME!

Hey! Thanks for that! I thought Visconti was producing though... :/

Shows what I know. I like Finn's work too.

I can't wait for the re-issue of Southpaw Grammar, either. The cover sucks balls. So glad he's issuing it with new artwork.

Dearest Love meanders a bit, but the piano and organ round out the song very nicely.

Thanks for the links.

LIVE AT THE HOLLYWOOD BOWL

UK release date: October 6th 2008

Warner Music Entertainment is pleased to announce the UK release of Morrissey ‘Live At The Hollywood Bowl’ on Monday October 6th.

This forthcoming DVD captures Morrissey ‘Live at the Hollywood Bowl’ 15 years after his last gig at the legendary venue. A 17,000 plus audience is captivated with a career defining performance that includes The Smiths’ classic tracks ‘The Queen Is Dead’, ‘The Boy With The Thorn In His Side’, ‘Girlfriend In A Coma’, ‘How Soon Is Now?’, Please, Please, Please Let me Get What I Want’ and ‘There Is A Light That Never Goes Out’.

Morrissey’s darkly raw and witty lyrics are teamed with a flamboyant stage persona as we see at least 2 shirt strips and a constant flow of impassioned stage invaders. He delivers an unforgettable set spanning three decades of new and classic material on a night where his voice and performance is at it it’s very peak.

Morrissey ‘Live at The Hollywood Bowl’ illustrates just of how much of a lyrical genius Steven Morrissey is. He has influenced many artists over the years and will continue to do so, due to the creative honesty in his words and the passion of his live performances.

This DVD is an essential edition to the collection of the committed Smiths & Morrissey faithful.

Message from Morrissey

14 August 2008

MESSAGE FROM MORRISSEY.

The slapdash release of Morrissey live at the Hollywood Bowl is done by Warner without any consultation to me whatsoever, and is in breach of their terms as laid out by themselves in an agreement made for the film between Warner and my ex-manager. Being Warner, predictably the sleeve art is appalling. It is the work of cash-hounds, and I urge people NOT to buy it. I am not signed to Warner, and no royalties from this dvd will come to me. Please spend your money elsewhere.
thank you, MORRISSEY.

This film has to be pretty kick ass, so I'll be buying it whether Morrissey wants me to or not. He can't expect people to turn down the opportunity to buy something this cool just because it's somewhat unauthorized. And the fact that he's complaining about the royalties makes me want to buy it even more, because he's just making himself sound greedy and I think I've given him enough money by now.

The Echo And The Bunnymen Dancing Horses DVD was released against the band's wishes but you better believe I bought it anyway, because it beats the shit out of the horribly produced Live In Liverpool DVD.

Ha, I like that album cover! Morrissey cannot hold children...

That sucks that the album isn't coming out till next year. The new album would be coming out this Tuesday already. Sad

Hopefully we'll get another US tour next year!

The new album is delayed until next year? I thought it was already done. OK, someone leak it then, I can't wait another 4 months.

Yup, the new album won't be out until February. It's finished, but Universal wants it pushed to next year and Moz has no record deal in the US right now since he parted ways with Decca already.

In other Moz release news, the Hollywood Bowl DVD has been pushed back to March. I don't know what's going on with the Southpaw Grammar reissue, though.
