Rockers Nine Inch Nails are turning their latest album 'Year Zero' into a TV show.

Frontman Trent Reznor has written a story around their 2007 release, a concept album featuring the singer's Orwellian forecast of the U.S. around the year 2022, and is currently posing the idea to various TV networks.

He says, "We've got a producer on board and have met with writers. If it works, it works and if it doesn't, it doesn't. I'm more interested in it being a television show than a film at this point. We're about to pitch it to the network, so we're a couple of weeks away from meeting all of the main people and we'll see what happens."

Nine Inch Nails to make television show based on 'Year Zero'

Nine Inch Nails frontman Trent Reznor has revealed to Kerrang! that he's been working on a story based on his latest album 'Year Zero', which may be made into a television show.

"We've got a producer on board and have met with writers," Reznor tells Kerrang!. "If it works, it works and if it doesn't, it doesn't. I'm more interested in it being a television show than a film at this point. We're about to pitch it to the network, so we're a couple of weeks away from meeting all of the main people and we'll see what happens."

Reznor, however, is remaining tight-lipped about how the Orwellian story will unfold.

"I don't want to spoil it", he smiles. "It's not formed enough yet to blow it open to everyone. We may record a new soundtrack for the show. We'll see, but there's already the 'Year Zero' record attached to the story. We'll have to see if they opt to broadcast the show first and then we can worry about telling everybody about those sort of things."

Reznor has also been hard at work overseeing a remix album featuring fan's reinterpretations of tracks taken from their 2006 album 'Year Zero', which is yet to see a release date.

"It was an idea that came to me a few years ago," he explains. "We put the master multi-tracks out for two singles- 'The Hand That Feeds' and 'Only' - and allowed anybody to remix those songs how they saw fit for free with no real agenda.

"It's sort of like an opposite approach for me because one of the biggest things I can get out of something like this , is having other peoples input on my material," Reznor adds. "When it comes to making a real record, it's pretty much a one-man dictatorship and I do things how i see them and have always worked on that basis."

Reznor has largely been impressed with the standard of remixes submitted by fans.

"Some of the stuff we've recieved is really interesting and occasionally great," he reveals. "Some of the stuff, though, is unbelievably terrible but it's cool that they had their fun with it! Again, there's no real agenda for doing this, other than giving people the opportunity that not many other artists out there do. Why not let people have fun with that?"

Nine Inch Nails will play a handful of UK shows this month, including the Carling Weekend: Reading and Leeds Festivals: See Gigs for details.

Don't get too excited. Rumours say Drew Carey isn't working out.

So wait, Reznor is going release a fan based remix album for YZ ? Why would I want to buy that ? I could just find the track listing and download it legally from the http://www.thtffanremixes.cjb.net/ - Maybe I am missing something, but I would much rather have alternate interpretations of YZ by MTR or even partly farmed out pieces to other artists like in the old days.

A TV show would be stupid. I hope it ain't true.

Same goes for a fan made remix album.

I don't even listen to those for free.

Maybe he wants to be like David Lynch again or something. I don't know. I
do know that far more tv shows fail than make it.....look at all the
effort and creativity that went into those 2 or 3 alien shows that came
out a few years back.....they were not real good but there was a bit of
effort in the creativity aspect of them.....but they were on less than a
year, some less than a few months.

I would hate to see a lot of creativity that could be used for various
projects that might turn out nice get all used up in one project that's a
series that sucked and failed.
Whereas with a movie you put your one creative force into it and if it
works, great, if not, move on to the next thing or try something new. But
to use too many of them in something that might very well fail.....

I hope that I am making sense, and I am probably not. Hell is this even
the right forum?

I think Family Feud would be more accurate in the states.

No...you make sense. I think a TV show could be really cool with the right producers, writers, etc., but then it would suck if they put the creativity into it, and then it got cancelled. Like I'll be really pissed if Damages gets calcelled. When an on-going story show gets cancelled, then you never get a resolution to it. It's like a story with a lot of potential gets thrown away. But with a movie, the whole story gets told and realized even if only five people see it and. And the storie's out there for people to find if they want it. And I guarantee you, if YZ is made into a movie, at least all the nin fans will see it in the theatre if it gets to one. And we'd all probably buy it on DVD too.
