Its early, but I think this would be a good thread to see what people are excited about for next year when it comes to music.
Here's mine (Sorry about the prominence of Metal, and that some of the examples are from previous years due to no previews of newer material):
1. Faith No More
Well, they are my favourite band ever, and Motherfucker was awesome, why wouldn't they be number 1.
2. Tool
If they can actually get it done by then, but even then I am insanely excited with what Tool can do, especially with previews like this. If there is a band that probably won't disappoint with their next, it would be Faith No More, but Tool are very close to being that band for me.
3. Enter Shikari
The two songs released are fucking amazing, and give me high hopes for what this band can do. Their next album, The Mindsweep, could be a defining moment for them, both as a band and in terms of popularity. This may dissuade a lot of people who just write them off as trancecore, they have come a LONG way since those days
4. Deftones
After the strength of Diamond Eyes (Probably my favorite Deftones record) and Koi No Yokan, I can't help but wonder what they can do, especially as Sergio becomes a larger part of the band. Maybe the post-hardcore elements on Adrenaline could come back due to Sergio's involvement in Quicksand, I would like a mix of that with some of the Post-Metal sounds on the post White Pony records
5. Bring Me The Horizon
Hey, remember when this band were an unlistenable waste of time. Yeah, neither do I, now even when the songs are not that good, they are still full of potential. Their next album is their make or break moment, if they can keep up the momentum they got from There Is A Hell and Sempiternal, the sky's the limit in terms of quality
6. Napalm Death
Napalm Death are one of those bands that have never made a bad album in my opinion. Even without any founding members they can still crush peoples skulls with their guitar tone, whilst still having a sense of intelligence about them. Apex Predator - Easy Meat seems to be shorter and/or have longer songs than Utilitarian, but the song Cesspits gives me insane hope that this will be incredible.
7. Lamb Of God
I found Resolution to be disappointing and more of the same from LOG (Although Desolation is an absolute tune). But I am really hoping that they have another Sacrament in them, especially considering the presumably darker tone considering the events of the past few years.
8. Panda Bear
Person Pitch and Tomboy were modern classics, mixing experimental ideas, psychedelia and occasional pop structures masterfully. And while Mr. Noah isn't as good as anything on those records, it still bodes well for his new album, Panda Bear Meets The Grim Reaper.
9. Periphery
This band are one of the few Djent bands that I actually listen to on a regular basis (See TesseracT, Veil Of Maya, Animals As Leaders, Textures and After The Burial for the others, Sikth and Meshuggah aren't djent imo) and all signs point to Juggernaut: Alpha & Omega being an early favourite next year, with it sounding like the Periphery I know and love.
10. Cancer Bats
Post-Hardcore/Sludge Metal band with a great track record + Ross Robinson = SOLD. Also those singles are pretty sweet.
