I can't believe. So shocked. Aggh. RIP Fletch

Whoa. That's awful.
So fucking sad. He was only 60.
unexpected it sounds like. I wonder whats up...
fuck!!
RIP
this stings. DM was on my bucket list to see live, bummed I'll never get to see Andy live..
Bloody hell. Fuck everything.
RIP Andy.
This is Awful, fucking hell what a depressing week. Depeche Mode as a Duo just seems too weird for me. RIP Andy.
Damn, so tragic. Rest in peace, Fletch. <3
Ugh, ugh, ugh. So sad to hear.
It’s hard to imagine DM having endured this long without his influence, so even if one were to round his musical contributions to zero, he’s still directly responsible for one of my two favorite bands’ output over the years.
Thank you so much, Fletch. Rest in peace!
Sigh this is really sad and shocking
RIP Fletch
I read in a NIN FB group that Trent’s favorite DM song is Nothing and that’s why he named Nothing Records? Is this correct?
Can’t believe this news. I know he smoked and drank, but compared to what Dave did to his body in the 90’s he shouldn’t have died at 60.
super sad news

RIP Fletch. It's not going to be the same. Today is a straight DM day, starting with Ultra. I think those singles collections may have to be busted out as well.
And countless (more) listens to Enjoy the Silence, my favourite song ever.
60 seems WAY too young to die of “natural causes?”
Jesus. RIP, Fletch.
We used to play Heroes of Might and Magic 3 to the Singles 81-85 going all the time. I might have to do a map this weekend with it.
Such an awful shock! Seems like it just came out of nowhere. RIP Andy.
He was on holiday up to a few weeks ago and had injured his arm, but don't think that has anything to do with this . Was lucky enough to sort of meet him a few years ago at a Spirits in the Forest screening in London. Had no idea he was in the audience and sat behind me until the end. If I had got to the cinema in time and sat in my proper seat I would have been one seat away from him. This is a hard loss.
I still can't get over Fletch's death and the meaning of it for Depeche Mode's future. On a selfish personal level, this has to be the saddest news since Bowie's passing. My thoughts go to the family, the Depeche family and friends.
From the Depeche Mode official Facebook page:
We wanted to take a moment and acknowledge the outpouring of love for Andy that we’ve seen from all of you over the last few weeks. It’s incredible to see all of your photos, to read your words, and to see how much Andy meant to all of you. As you can imagine, it’s been a strange, sad, disorienting few weeks for us here, to say the least. But we’ve seen and felt all of your love and support, and we know that Andy’s family has too.
A couple weeks ago we received the result from the medical examiners, which Andy’s family asked us to share with you now. Andy suffered an aortic dissection while at home on May 26. So, even though it was far, far too soon, he passed naturally and without prolonged suffering.
We had a celebration of Andy’s life in London last week, which was a beautiful ceremony and gathering with a few tears, but filled with the great memories of who Andy was, stories of all of our times together, and some good laughs. Andy was celebrated in a room full of many of his friends and family, our immediate DM family, and so many people who have touched Andy’s and our lives throughout the years. All being together was a very special way to remember Andy and see him off.
So thank you for all of the love you’ve shown Andy and his family and friends over the last few weeks. It honestly means the world to all of us. Andy, you’ll be missed, but certainly not forgotten.
Love, Martin & Dave
Very touching. RIP Fletch
So basically a heart attack? Poor Fletch. He didn’t look unfit.
A quick response but: An aortic dissection is very different from a heart attack, and also, someone's appearance (by which people generally mean body shape/size) is an immensely poor indicator for heart health.
My friend's mom, who was in her 50s at the time and very fit for her age (went running basically every day, among other things), had an aortic dissection a few years back. Luckily, most people survive and she was able to get treatment, but yeah, just another scary random thing that can happen. :/ I'm glad it was at least quick and painless for him.
^ 2nd that. One of my music teachers who played trumpet was an avid runner, did a ton of marathons, super fit and skinny. One morning was running a marathon - collapsed and died out of nowhere. Was in his 50's too.
