    Andre 3000- New Blue Sun

a blissful, ambient jazz album. wow. I'm not surprised Dre can put something like this out. I'm glad he did. I'm perfectly fine that it's not a rap album (and I understand why some people may be mad about that) . I think the best way to describe it is a mix between Miles Davis's "In A Silent Way" album if it were produced by Brian Eno.

Fairly good list except I found that Overmono album utter disappointment, can't believe the brilliant previous singles and ep's lead to such weak debut album.

    Particular, No Order
    EXCEPT probably

    1. Brakence-hypochondriac
(That record TECHNICALLY came out in '22, but twas in December, and I didn't hear it until Jan '23, so it counts)

Have y'all heard the kid? He's got tasty guitar licks, clever idm sounds, a damn fine voice that often glitches out (I think he's part computer. I have no fucking idea which of the vocal ranges he uses is actually his real voice, but he does this gorgeous falsetto thing, although it might be manipulated), he's a GREAT songwriter, a decent...rapper, I guess?
I don't even know what the fuck genre it is: it's like hyperpop idm emo with a dash of hip hop.
You just have to hear it.

JPEGMAFIA x Danny Brown - Scaring The Hoes

Earl Sweatshirt.x The Alchemist- Voir Dire

Oliver Anthony- Rich Men North of Richmond and all the other songs he put out.

(AhHHhhhhhhh. Fresh air! One man with a guitar- an old resonator, literally recording out in the woods, like the old days. I LOVE country/americana, but I HATE what it's become- pop music with the same four chords, electronic drums, dumb lyrics, and people from WHEREVER, dressed up as cowboys, putting a fake twang on their voice. God sent that dude and a few of his contemporaries to destroy bro country. Let's take it back to O Brother, Where Art Thou.)

Andre Benjamin - New Blue Sun

(I honestly thought he was just fucking with people, walking around playing that weird ass flute. I never DREAMED he'd put out an album with it. Also, I've been listening to OutKast since I was a kid, and will NOT call that cat 3000 "Meet the twin/Andre Ben")

Bizzy Bone - Tha Waste Lands, aka whatever the fuck album he put out this year.
Lil Ripsta is on fire. He's just nonstop putting out dope records. I can barely keep up.

    Busta Rhymes-Blockbusta

It's got a few (edit: WAY TOO FUCKING MANY) songs for the kids with some (edit: WAY TOO FUCKING MANY) godawful features, but (EDIT: SOME) of it is good old Busta Motherfucking Rhymes, the most underrated cat to ever do the damn thing, still kicking ass around 50 years old.

That's the only new shit I've listened to this year. It's mostly been Rush, Led Zeppelin, Tricky, Fugees, BoC, Ming and FS, Tears for Fears, DMX, Bone Thugs, and old DnB mixes

For me, its Perfect Saviors by The Armed. They've really grown and matured since the EP trilogy in 2010-2013. They're hitting their stride and just when you think it can't get better than the last album, it somehow outdoes it.

I've heard a BIT of Sleep Token, VERY recently, and I really dig it: I've just, you know, yet to hear the album.

However, Spiritbox (obvious fucking band name I wish to GOD I'd thought of first...i need a new one, and have for some time according to @Big Fat Matt - What up, man!), I've only heard MENTIONED.
What are they all about? Why does the record make your AOTY list?
The NAME is certainly fucking intriguing.

they’re a really good female fronted metal band. Saw them at louder than life last year and was blown away by how great Courtney LaPlante is as a singer.

Oh, FUCK. Yeah, that's dope. I've heard them on YouTube commercials, but it never fucking says who the artist is on the Roku TV version, and someone sent me a vid, but i never put 2 and 2 together.

STRANGELY, i just realized that i have a 6 Degrees of Separation with this Spiritbox. They were in Iwrestledabearonce.
When i VERY first moved up here, i played a short stint in a metalcore band with my little homey Jasper.
I can't even remember the NAME of the goddamn band (it's been over ten years...old guitarist play in many old band), BUT...
when i started playing with them, they had just OPENED for Iwrestledabearonce, in Amarillo, AND, Dumas.
    NOW.
Anyone cool enough to come through Amarillo this century gets extra respect from me, but DUMAS?
The town of 14k folk to which we drive to from our town of under 2k folk, so we can have citified shit like Sonic and Wal-Mart? And like...how you say...physician?
    I say goddamn.

I must pay extra attention to this Spiritbox.
And, SHIT that lady can growl, like the Kittie sisters before her.
Female fronted heavy music is blossoming and growing before my very eyes.

(drifty, and tangential, but, on East Dallas, spirit boxes DO work. I just don't fuck with that type of thing these days...i've had too much weird shit happen. Get you a nice, free spirit box program for your computer and give it a go, if you don't believe me).

Small world! I did the premiere for "Wilderness" on the same site. @halo33 (their synth player) and I used to be in two bands together as well. <3
