No, I received my tax statement in the mail along with with the one addressed to this guy using my address. I've been at this current address for several years now so it's not from a previous tenant.

Hmmmm. Curious. I'd just return to sender, Mark it: no one at this address by that name.

For fucks sake, like I tagged you in the Rammstein thread, go download and listen to Skills In Pills. That whole album back to front is like me in music form. Serious, fucked up, non giving shit, artistic, heartfelt, completely abnormal.

Listen to Ladyboy and Golden Shower first. Then Home Sweet Home and Yukon.

I've been down this road and it feels really awkward. Some I've never gotten back. I used to put things on a flash drive for my boss and I finally put a label on the outside that said "This belongs to Robbie." I'd say it depends on your relationship with the person.

I loaned one of my favorites out to a friend months ago, with the caveat that I needed it back. However, his wife recently died, so I'm definitely not gonna bother him about it. There another one, though, that I loaned to a friend when she was laid up with a broken kneecap. I put a bunch of Game of Thrones episodes on it and included it with some other care packagey type stuff. Didn't mention anything about wanting it back but... Sigh. Yeah, I guess I'll write that one off, too. I'll try the label thing from now on.

Is the deep web of use for anyone not into the black market, disgusting sex, gore, snuff, etc scene? Curious as to what its use is beyond harboring illegal activities. Does anyone have experience? This is asked in 100% curiosity, and likely 0% intention of ACTUALLY ending up there...

You're confusing the deep web with the dark web. Dark web = drugs, kiddie porn, etc.

    Correct. I mis-spoke.

Is the deep web of any use to me? Will I find anything of particular interest within the unindexed portions of the internet that I cannot find elsewhere? Should I just let it go and go back to reading reddit horror stories at midnight when i have been sleeping poorly to begin with?

PS. I use it for research.

Also, the Aphex Twin uses it to release albums. I loved that one move by him did more to uncover and expose illicit activity than the police in 10 years.

Not sure if this fits here but I don't want to start a new thread.

So, I've been thinking of trying to learn to play the electric guitar. I am 32 years old and have no previous experience with music theory or instruments whatsoever. Anyone has any advice on the whole process? Or maybe can suggest some useful online sources? Feel free to PM if you don't want to clutter the thread.

That one link he tweeted, I think, made more people aware of it... but Stuff You Should Know covered the Deep Web on their podcast before that, and I'm sure it was fairly well known to nerds, obviously. No nerds on the police payroll I guess...

    Ah, the titles.

What I mean is, by planting information there, it draws "regular people" to the medium, thus popularising it and making it less of a murky underworld for people who want to do dodgy things.

Doing dodgy things in a murky underworld just made me think of anal sex.

So, I wash my hands *very* thoroughly after I use the bathroom/get really gross stuff on my hands. I basically "scrub up" and people will comment on it sometimes, which I find really rude. I'm actually pretty at peace with my handwashing. When things are going well, I wash them twice, basically. One time really quickly and shittily to "get stuff off" and then one time very thoroughly. Full aware that washing them twice is compulsive behavior but it's also harmless as long as I keep it in check and like use lotion.

But like, sometimes people will comment when I'm just WASHING MY HANDS PROPERLY. Usually when people say something I just smile and go "I have OCD." but I find it really rude, and bleh. Any suggestions for better responses? I figure "I wash my hands properly." is too rude and also a lot of the time I wash my hands compulsively, not just properly, so.

But like, I'm actually not okay with their observations and find it rude and don't know how to convey that gracefully.

What's a good way to quell really bad anxiety with relation to hypochondria and getting blood tests done?

I suffer horribly from hypochondria even though I feel fine; I tend to convince myself mentally that something is horribly wrong with me.

    nice versions:
"just trying to make sure i'm nice and clean!"
    "don't want to spread germs!"

    rude versons:
"yeah, you should try it some time!"
"just in case i got any of you on me!"

Got the results back today and everything is normal, blood sugar was high last year but has gone down from 6.5 to 4.9.

Cholesterol is still a little bit high but less so than last year.

When did the acronym for Single Jewish Woman/Women turn into the acronym for something else?

    Two questions for North Americans:

    1. Do girls and women shake hands with the rest of the group they meet as well, considering it's not a formal event? I was googling about some handshake "etiquettes", and that's when I bumped into this.

    2. How is history teached to you? In here it's about 50%-50% between the history of our country and the rest of the world's. However, our history can be traced back to around ~800, and by 1000 we were a legitimate country already, so a shitload of things happened to us. Also, the "rest of the world" history mainly involves Europe in our books. USA on the other hand is very young, and given the vibe USA gives to those - like me - who has never been there, I can't imagine their students eagerly learning about all the various conflicts in Europe. So... how?

Wait, your history certainly can be tracked further back than that ?! We have remnants, artifacts and paintings from nomadic tribes in France dating back 50,000 years and the earliest iterations of the country (not the nation obviously) are from around 400 !

Edit : wait I just wiki'ed it, and indeed, Hungary has had a wilder start, holy shit...

Handshake etiquette in the US is basically identical regardless of gender, so when I'm introduced to someone in a group I introduce myself to everyone/shake their hand.

    Yes.

And I have never in my life taken a world history class - but I've taken probably 4 US history classes.

Ugh, this whole introducing yourself is so strange in Brazil. Super formal is 2 kisses, one on each cheek, yet sometimes when being introduced to friends of friends, they just go for one kiss, leaving me in an awkward "wait to see what they do next" phase. Also some people just stick their hand out and shake hands which isn't really traditional of Brazil...yet I'm seeing some people do that so who the fuck knows anymore.
