Yeah, I'm sorry, my above comment regarding the screaming was meant kinda tongue in cheek. I mean, his singing on The Slip doesn't bother me at all. But contrary to you I feel it's precisely the ballads in which he's reaching his limits.
I guess, what I'm trying to say is, that -aside from manupulating his vocals with effects- singing rather in talking- or whispering-mode suits him more than trying to be Sade. That's how I feel, anyway.

Yup. Reznor’s voice hits me as being in a similar category with Bob Dylan, specifically in that his voice isn’t the prettiest and his range isn’t the best, but it is a unique voice, it’s interesting to listen to, and what he does have he generally commands well. John Legend (for instance) is the man and all, but who would want to hear him do something like Mr Self Destruct? It just wouldn’t be right.

You know how people have put on the Wizard Of Oz turned down the sound and watch it while playing Dark Side Of The Moon by Pink Floyd. I wonder if you could take Stanley Kubrick's 2001: A Space Odyssey turn down the sound and play The Fragile: Deviations 1 if you could get the same effect.

Anything's possible with a little bit of confirmation bias!

I just found this thing that reminded me of the beginning of Mr. Self Destruct.

Can anybody confirm that this is not what was taking place during the beginning of Mr. Self Destruct?

I'm pretty sure TR+AR said in their Zane Lowe interview that there were no plans to tour in 2017, so I'm guessing that it's fake. Much as I'd love to see NIN again, I know that when TR wrapped up touring last time, he'd said something about not wanting to miss his kids growing up, so personally I suspect we won't see any major tours for quite awhile.

I'm as optimistic as anyone about nin touring this year (later half of year), but in order for this be real it means he's kept any touring info under wraps, lied during the Zane Lowe interview, and has one hell of a surprise in store for us.

I say fake. Especially since there's a hockey game scheduled that day in the Staples Center

And I mean, that's cool. I think a lot of fans are with you. And for what it's worth, I know TR does these things with consideration and measure, so there is some purpose behind all of the times he has purposely clashed tempi (HLAH/TL, TB/IDNWT crossfade, intro vs. body of 10MH, etc.). In the end, though, I will always retort that a better result could have been achieved with a different methodology... to which TR would probably say, "too bad I like it the way it is, cocksucker!" Ż\_(ツ)_/Ż

I think I like the album version of I'm Afraid of Americans better than the Trent Reznor remix.

It bears repeating every so often:

It's easy to take potshots at Purest Feeling and its contents, it being the very very beginnings and all, but Maybe Just Once is a song I legitimately love, and it had every potential to be one of the best songs on PHM if it had been developed a little further. I'll cut anyone sideways who looks at it wrong, dammit.

Maybe it's because I've heard the NIN remix a billion times. The album version just sounds cleaner and fresher to me.

I enjoy but can't help but think, Man, This guy's voice is just too angry for this style of music.

I finally took the time to upload everything I had in my personal archives from the Fragile era of nin.com. I spent a lot of time getting the individual Fragility date pages almost fully functional. Hopefully its of some use to somebody.

As someone who got into NIN right around 2001 and didn't do any NINternet stuff until at least 2002/2003, thank you for this. The Fragile era is my favorite as far as music and art is concerned, so I'm still sad that I never got to experience the web presence NIN had back then (obviously more bummed that I missed the last time they actually had a show in Buffalo, but I was in high school at the time and I had a hard time convincing my mom to let me go to a Weird Al concert at the time, I doubt I could have gone to a Fragility show).

No problem, it was indeed an exciting time, and I'm glad I can kinda share it, at least in some form.

YES it has the video from when they were filming Deep, where Trent gets out of the car and starts screaming like a mad man, throwing his arms around and ripping his coat off. That clip would make me laugh so hard back in the day.

Also great work on all of this!

It's becoming increasingly difficult to wait for either the physical component to arrive or the ability to listen to some songs from Patriot's Day, I need one of them at least!

I saw Trent Reznor at a grocery store in LA yesterday. I told him how cool it was to meet him in person, but I didn’t want to be a douche and bother him and ask him for photos or anything.
He said, “Oh, like you’re doing now?”
I was taken aback, and all I could say was “Huh?” but he kept cutting me off and going “huh? huh? huh?” and closing his hand shut in front of my face. I walked away and continued with my shopping, and I heard him chuckle as I walked off. When I came to pay for my stuff up front I saw him trying to walk out the doors with like fifteen Milky Ways in his hands without paying.
The girl at the counter was very nice about it and professional, and was like “Sir, you need to pay for those first.” At first he kept pretending to be tired and not hear her, but eventually turned back around and brought them to the counter.
When she took one of the bars and started scanning it multiple times, he stopped her and told her to scan them each individually “to prevent any electrical infetterence,” and then turned around and winked at me. I don’t even think that’s a word. After she scanned each bar and put them in a bag and started to say the price, he kept interrupting her by yawning really loudly.

did you mean to post this in the "dreams" thread, tony? because you don't even live in LA.
