The NHL decided forgo HBO and 24/7, and go with a new network Epix and a similar type of show for the upcoming Stadium Series for the Sharks and Kings. Usually, these shows are pretty interesting at worst, but it's compelling watching the team I grew up with, behind the scenes. Good stuff, unfortunately Epix isn't widely available, but they streamed the first episode on NHL.com last night.

It is now February 7th and the Red Wings are in First Place in the Eastern Conference. Only 9 weeks left in the regular season. So much for that whole missing the playoffs thing. If they can get a right shooting defenseman at the trade deadline, I think they've got to be the favorites to come out of the East.

Will this finally be the year that Mike Babcock wins the Jack Adams trophy?

    Uh oh.

Apparently old friends of Dez Bryant are trying to extort him, have video of him attacking a woman in a Wal-Mart.

Screenshots apparently already sent out to media outlets, but the video itself is apparently being shopped to the highest bidder and is expected to see the light of day within 24 hours. And apparently the Cowboys are/were aware of it being out there...

edit: Word around is that this is why the Cowboys have yet to finalize a deal to keep Dez. The video is apparently '5x as bad as the Ray Rice video' and they're afraid that it'll end his career and they don't want to deal with it. The source also says that the Cowboys organization itself told Bryant to expect the video to be released within a day. Holy shit.

    NFL Free Agency goin' bonkers.

Jimmy Graham from the Saints traded to the Seahawks for Max Unger and a 1st round pick.
Rams QB Sam Bradford and Eagles QB Nick Foles swappin' houses.
New England's Darelle Revis headed to the Jets.
DeMarco Murray is now officially on the market.

    Go home NFL, you're drunk.

Big fighting night with Pascal vs. Kovalev and UFC 185.
I have Kovalev by KO in the 4th.
    Pettis will retain his bell.
Will Big Rigg bounce back against Brown??

So Kovalev in the 8 by stoppage.
Pettis lost and Bigg Rigg won but could not finish. Not even close in fact.

Speaking of Kovalev, I believe Stevenson couls actually beat him. He hits much harder than Pascal.
Pascal was able to land several big punches. Take those but with Stevenson's power and Kovalev is in trouble.

Now I'll get shit for this, but I picked the Patriots when I was a child, living in a small town in texas. So I'm not even from New England. I thought they were the real America's team because they are the Patriots. I'm a Dallas everything else fan (Mavs, FC Dallas, not a baseball/hockey fan) though. Weird, I know. But I do fly up there every year for a game, so I'm no bandwagon. It kind of worked out that I met my girlfriend in 2010, who is also a Patriots fan.

Now on to sports, I'm irritated at the the Patriots for letting Revis go but I get why they wouldn't pay him that much money. Excited about Sheard and the fact that we have a third edge rusher. Hopefully the pass-rush can mask the lack of talent in the secondary. I also went to the FC Dallas match against Sporting KC last saturday, and got escorted out because we got too drunk. We were up 3-1, so it didn't matter.

Wall Street journal had a script that did your ncaa bracket for you based on criteria you picked like shooting, rebounds etc. I got Wichita State to take it all :P

My alma mater Northeastern is in it for the first time in forever. Go Huskies! Beat Duke! Errrr, yeah, ok, right.

Few weeks left in the NHL season. Who does everyone have to win the cup? I'm thinking NYR in the East. Maybe Chicago for the West if Kane can play 100% when he is back. But overall I'd be very surprised if NYR doesn't make it to at least the Eastern Conference finals this season.

I have Tampa and St. Louis, both of whom were my preseason picks as well. NYR definitely making a case to return, with an even better team than last year. I'm secretly rooting for the Isles, but I don't think they are quite there yet. My Shorks are all but officially eliminated. It's been a brutal season. I think Minnesota is a team to watch as well. People forget they were so far out of the playoffs at the halfway point. Getting Dubnyk turned their season around. They have a strong lineup.

Tampa would be a very strong case for the champion in the East. Probably just as good, if not better than NYR I forgot that Lundqvist takes a while to warm up. If he can't be on his game by playoff time then they might be in trouble. Honestly can't see Talbot be able to handle the pressure. If NYI gets paired with the Penguins that would be an awesome series. Gives two slumping teams a chance to play well and one to get the confidence to keep it up.

I don't think the Blues can do it. For some reason I'm not 100% confident they can make it past the second round. Same as with Montreal. I think both will underwhelm everyone but I hope I'm wrong.

Minny has been great since getting Dubnyk, I had them written off before the trade. If they keep up the momentum then they could make it a few rounds or more. My only concern would be Dubnyk wearing himself out. The guy has play A LOT of hockey since getting into Min.

Edit, also if the Kings make it in, they could be a threat in the West.

I would love a Isles/Pens first round matchup. Their series 2 years ago was epic. Now the Islanders are a better team and Pittsburgh isn't the juggernaut they once were.

The Blues have been pretty bad lately too and now Tarasenko is hurt. So maybe my pick isn't really that solid haha. And too true about Dubnyk...I don't think they've rested him. I'm sure they'll rest him once they actually clinch a spot.

I hate the Kings so much. They have a real shot at missing the playoffs, but if they sneak in, they would almost be favorites in any matchup. As a Shark fan, this Kings' resurgence has been horrifying to watch. Glad to see hockey doing well in California though.

I hate the Kings too. I really hope it's the Flames and Jets that get the wildcard spots. A Vancouver/Calgary round would be very entertaining to watch considering the long rivalry there.

The Blues remind me of the Sharks a few seasons back. Great team, just get eliminated for some reason or another too early in the playoffs.

It's Boston's to lose at this point. Pittsburgh doesn't look great and Ottawa might not be able to push hard enough to sneak it. The Sens going down in a SO might be the deciding game.

Also, Habs' leading scorer went down vs Florida :/

Sharks officially eliminated. The last time they missed the playoffs I was 14. Officially rooting for the Islanders the rest of the way. And rooting for the Jets and Flames to make it so the Kings miss too.

Tonight's Pens/Sens is huge. A Pens win pushes the Sens tragic # to 2. A Sens win ties them in points with the Pens and Bruins (and possibly Red Wings depending on their game tonight), though Bruins would have game in hand and all 3 teams have ROW advantage over Sens. I like the Sens story, so I'm pulling for them. They pretty much need to win out and get some help, but the fact they are in this race is pretty incredible considering where they were 2 months ago.

Omfg with the hockey around here, yeah it's alright, and go rangers, but BASEBALL JUST STARTED!!! Even if your team is good or bad opening day is just a magical thing. It's like having a good book all summer, turn the page and another game is there every day. Mets 162-0, bring it!

Yeah love Baseball! Was at the M's Opening Day yesterday. King Felix killed it after giving that home run early to Trout. I think the M's could do somethings this year especially after missing the playoffs by 1 game last year despite a shitty last month and a half to the season. They just need the pitching to be consistent and get some hitting, Cruz should help in that department though he will not be anywhere near as good as lat year with the Orioles. Anyways Hope the M's do good this year 14 years without the playoffs has sucked but the AL west will be tough.

Nice game yesterday between Duke and Wisconsin.

We're going to a few of the Mariners / Angels games in mid-July at Safeco...I hope that by that point the rivalry between the Mariners and Angels is at a fever pitch haha.

If the Kings lose in regulation then the Canucks clinch so I'll be happy. Doubtful, considering they are playing the Oilers tonight. But I thought I wouldn't need anymore motivation to root against the Kings but there it is! Glad the Canucks got the 2 points against them. Just wish it could have been in regulation.

The Pens/Sens would be fantastic to watch. Likely Ottawa misses the playoffs, which is a shame. Wish I could watch the games but they are all past 12 am over here.

Edit: Kings lost LOLOLOLOL So the Canucks are playoff bound. Ottawa won in OT. Perfect!

Awesome! So Calgary and Winnipeg each need 2 points in the final 2 games to clinch, and that's only if Kings win out. Flames/Kings play tomorrow. If Flames win in regulation, Kings are done. Flames/Jets for final game of season too, so there's a possible 3 point game in there.

Ding dong the Kings are dead!!! And the Sens control their playoff destiny after a huge Sens win against a resting Rangers team, coupled Bruins loss against the Panthers (sorry Dra!). So the West is pretty much set, though one of the Sens, Pens and Bruins have to go home early. I have a sneaking suspicion it might be the Penguins.

Playoff matchups set! Who y'all got?

    Blues over Wild in 7
    Predators over Blackhawks in 7
    Ducks over Jets in 5
    Flames over Canucks in 6

    Canadiens over Senators in 5
    Lightning over Wings in 6
    Rangers over Penguins in 4
    Islanders over Capitals in 7

Some tough ones in there. I feel a little foolish picking against the Sens with the run they've had, but that gas has to run out at some point.

I think the Blackhawks get swept.
