Seriously? Farmer John hot dogs don't have cooking instructions? I mean, I guess you can kind of figure out a ballpark of how long to cook them, but still. WTF.

And this is a pretty big, well known brand. Very strange.

I'm pretty sure it's because they're actually already cooked. You could eat them "raw" if you wanted to.

Anything that's canned has already been cooked.

This is true, but Oscar Mayer is pre-cooked, too, and they have cooking instructions on the label. Case in point: I ruined a few hot dogs last night trying to figure out how long to cook them. Oh, well. Guess I won't be buying that brand again.

Haha no offense pal but if you have a few casualties of war in the process of heating up some hot dogs you might need to rethink whether you should be cooking, ever, and also whether or not you should be able to use things such as hot elements and knives without proper supervision. Id suggest shifting your focus to master finger clicking with Bill. Oh but it's the packages fault you say? Never mind then!!

It's fucking hot dogs dude get your shit together.

Forgive my ignorance, but in some parts of the world do hot dogs actually come in cans? That seems like it would be disgusting. And not very practical. I'm not talking about chopped up bangers and mash style hot dogs here, I mean like full length size all beef wieners? In cans? Are they specially customized extra long size cans? Are they floating in gross hot dog flavored water? Please tell me that's not the case. *shudder*

Well, all of these brands look American: https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=ti...w=1280&bih=685

The photo allegro posted tends to be how we package real sausages, although I've seen some hot dogs and imported mini Vienna sausages. (more often made of chicken, turkey, or tofu) like that.

Also, I don't know what you mean by "chopped up bangers and mash style hot dogs". Sausages used in sausage and mash are your regular fresh sausages. Also, wieners are not hot dogs. Over here, hot dogs are those things you get in a long bun with mustard on top at football games or in American diners. Weiners and wursts are far bigger. We don't call German sausages hot dogs because they're, you know, food. Those are much bigger and would not fit in a can. A hot dog can here is about the size of a 330ml can of coke.

Nope. Not here. There is a HUGE section in each American supermarket devoted to every flavor and kind of hot dog (AMERICAN) you can imagine (all-beef, frankfurters, wieners, turkey dogs, etc), and it's a REFRIGERATED section. American hot dogs (is there any OTHER kind of HOT DOG???), although pre-cooked, must be refrigerated.

I genuinely like those, and I buy them at least a few times a month.

As I was explaining to a friend of mine recently, if I hadn't been eating those since I was a kid, I probably would find them repulsive. But they sort of got grandfathered into my taste buds. I like 'em. I can't explain why.

Well, you mentioned Frankfurters, those are German, from Frankfurt - where they probably wouldn't class Frankfurters as hot dogs because see other point about them being food :P The Vienna sausages Fixer poster a photo of are similar, but again, wouldn't be called hot dogs. Hot dogs (American) here are definitely the lowest denominator of sausage. Not fresh, barely considered real meat, and cheaper than dog food. You'd go to a restaurant and pay at least £5 for a Frankfurter in a sit-down place, you get hot dogs from carts and vans outside hardware stores and at multiplex cinemas...where they're still the healthiest food on offer!

Also 98 cents for how many hot dogs?! That's bananas.

Franks - Hot Dogs - interchangeable words around here. Sort of how there are regional words for sandwitches (submarine, sub, hoagie, grinder, whatamImissing)

Pork and beef the most traditional.

    Considered very good. Kosher beef

All with Sauerkraut and mustard, mah favorite. Rarely eat them though.

    two words:

CONEY ISLAND!!! That SNAP, that chili. onion, mustard, then the HEARTBURN that's worth it.

Somebody needs to make a hot dog thread, because hot dogs have derailed this one.
