I am in Minneapolis for the weekend to catch a show and do some record shopping... here is my favorite vinyl find so far

I have a thing for Taiwanese releases. I think its the covers... this one is basically 3 covers all bound together at the spine, when you look inside the lp pouches there are covers for other releases I am guessing to sturdy up the packaging.

    From a few days ago...

Picked up the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack, Gary Numan's Telekon (ATCO Promo) and David Bowie's The Stars (Are Out Tonight) sealed. I'm pretty happy with them.

Edit: Found Bowie's The Next Day, picked it up for a steep $35 from a local shop.

Surachai's new record came in the mail yesterday. Yet another album that Alessandro Cortini worked on. Some of the most beautiful album artwork ever, in my opinion. Unfortunately the sleeve came with the corners pretty bent up.

just got my dillinger escape plan "one of us is the killer" vinyl in the mail...along with a second package with the vinyl & a CD...but i only actually got charged for the one vinyl. definitely confused...

anyway, if anyone wants a sealed copy of the vinyl, it's yours if you pay for the shipping.

edit: nevermind, i found the invoice in the box and it was supposed to go to some girl in new york, so i'll be sending it to her.

I did some trade-ins at a local Asheville shop today (Harvest Records - shameless name drop) and received $30 for my store credit. While looking around I found Lou Reed's Transformer (reprint), Green Day - Uno and Dos, David Bowie's The Next Day (but I already have it, thought about getting a second copy), How To Destroy Angels The Omen EP and R.E.M.'s Murmur. However, I found and decided to get, Daft Punk's Random Access Memories and used all my store credit for it, I regret nothing!

Theme from an American Tail "Somewhere Out There" - Linda Ronstadt

So I'm finally planning on building a music collection that is something more than the 500 album's i've illegal downloaded and 30 NIN CD's i have.

Vinyl seemed like the way to go. It's more of a collectors thing, I love the huge artwork and who the hell would even play CD's when they have digital copies right there on a HDD?

So far all I have is a couple NIN/HDTA vinyls and a Vinylcast (vinyl podcast by the Tell Em Steve-Dave guys). Since deciding to get into vinyls I've ordered Phoenix's 'Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix' and MGMT's 'Oracular Spectacular', the two cheapest vinyls I could find that peaked my interest, which are currently heading my way from the US.

Now I'm in the process of saving for an actual record player and amp. This money saving process is giving me plenty of time to look at what's out there. So far I'm thinking of getting the Project Debut Carbon as it seems like a popular choice and fits my budget. If I have to update the stylus, plate or motor later on it seems pretty simple, and from the ton of critics reviews and forum posts, most people seemed pretty damn happy with the unit. I'll probably get a Pro-Ject tube amp to go with it and grab a couple Mullard re-issues to go in it (which in the future i can always change too... looking at the Telefunken smooth NOS tubes on ebay and they seem pretty cool).

Anyone have any thoughts on the above mentioned gear or ideas for other setups I might wanna check out? I'm totally new to the vinyl and turn table world so any help would certainly be appreciated.

you're going to need a pre-amp with a phono input (or a standalone phono pre-amp) unless their amps have built-in phono pre-amps. you should definitely talk to them and find out.

edit: ok, so i did some research on their site (thanks for bringing them to my attention because i may soon be in need of an outboard phono pre-amp) and it seems like if you're going to get one of their amplifiers (make sure you get one of the ones with a volume control), you're going to need one of their separate phono pre-amps.

Yeah, the plan was to grab THIS model. I assume from there I can run it directly into my big Yamaha receiver (which doesn't have a phono input, thus the pre-amp, but does have volume control), which will then put the music out to my Wharfdale speakers.

I got Tool's Undertow on vinyl just because I thought it looked damn cool, last year. I didn't have anything to play it on, so that was the next step, and the obsession has grown since.

What I have, that I can remember:

    Tool - Undertow
Arctic Monkeys - Favourite Worst Nightmare
    Arctic Monkeys - Humbug
    Justice - Cross
    Justice - Audio. Video. Disco.
Nine Inch Nails - Pretty Hate Machine 2010 Remaster
Nine Inch Nails - The Downward Spiral
Nine Inch Nails - Ghosts I-IV
    Extreme - Pornograffitti
Metallica - ...And Justice For All
    Neil Young - Harvest
    Iron Maiden - Iron Maiden
Iron Maiden - Seventh Son of a Seventh Son (Limited Edition Picture Disc)
Thin Lizzy - Live and Dangerous
Incubus - Monuments and Melodies: Greatest Hits
    The XX - XX

Friendly Fires - Skeleton Boy 12"
Michael Jackson - Leave Me Alone 12"
    Calvin Harris - I'm Not Alone 12"
    Genesis - Invisible Touch 12"

It was listed as the music video version, plus 2 remixes on 7".
I received a 12" with neither the album or music video version, but only the remixes. Kind of a let down. I'll probably keep that one though, and just buy one that ACTUALLY has what I'm looking for on it.
The music video version wins hands down for me though, the bass has so much more punch to it.
