    True, don't think that had a vinyl release though. This is probably still cheaper than trying to track down all the original 12" singles, which I guess is the point? Just kind of sticker shock. The other 12" box sets have been frequently going up and down in price, so maybe this one will sink after some time.

    Instead of releasing some stupid 20 CD box set of all their albums compiled together for 300 dollars, they should be re-releasing the singles box sets on CD

    Or all that rare content from The Complete Depeche Mode digital set that hasn’t resurfaced since. Kicking myself for not acquiring that when I had the chance...

    Tested one with Poison by The Prodigy, chuckled at the results.
    Over And Out by NIN yielded the best outcome.

    Sending you guys PMs now.

    FYI - this isn't from a purchase, @butters and I compiled this all together years ago before SOTU came out. It includes everything that was in The Complete DM, though. These are the notes we left with it:

    Since portions of "The Complete Depeche Mode" were compiled to match the iTunes

    download bundle but not taken from iTunes itself, the following notes must be made:

    * * *

    FROM "THE SINGLES BOXES (BOX 7)":

    - "Freelove (Console Remix)" - sourced from 12" vinyl

    - "Precious (Sasha's Gargantuan Vocal Mix) (Full Length)" - sourced from 12" vinyl

    - "Precious (Sasha's Spooky Mix (Full Length))" - sourced from 12" vinyl

    * * *

    FROM "THE SINGLES BOXES (BOX 8)":

    - "The Darkest Star (Holden Remix)" - sourced from 12" vinyl

    - "The Darkest Star (Holden Dub)" - sourced from 12" vinyl

    * * *

    "RARE EARLY LIVE PERFORMANCES" were selected and compiled from the best sources available.

    * * *

    "DIGITAL ONLY REMIXES" and "RARE, DELETED & PROMO ONLY REMIXES" may come from various unknown

    sources. Files with the best possible sound were used.

    * * *

    Additional artwork for "THE SINGLES BOXES (BOX 7)" and "THE SINGLES BOXES (BOX 8)" were

    fan-made, as no official artwork is provided with the digital booklet.

    * * *

    Thanks:

    - butters (sometimes known around Depeche Mode communities as moog, syphon, or reason_man)

    - candy_says (from www.echoingthesound.com/phpbbx/ (Nine Inch Nails community))

    - Various other contributors for providing miscellaneous material

    Anyone think World Violation Tour will ever be released on DVD and/or Blu-ray? Are we due for another remix compilation, 81 - 20?

    Not on Blu-ray. It's barely good enough quality for DVD, I think.

    This whole channel is soo good for me, e.g. megareview of Black Celebration, maybe I'll mention it also in Gary Numan topic. ;-)

    I know this is in the past and is probably annoying to bring up, but it's interesting how you can tell when Alan Wilder joined and left just by the sound of the albums. He really elevated the band's sound and gave them their cinematic, sophisticated, dark sound design. Songs of Faith and Devotion is where this is most evident imo.

    I dunno, I feel like Ultra and even moments of Playing the Angel harken back to the feel of albums that Alan was involved with. I will agree that when the, for lack of a better description, Alan-isms kick in on his "In Chains" remix a few minutes in, it gives me all the right feels. Aside from being a very proficient pianist, he certainly had much more of a producer's ear/work ethic that was unmatched by the other band members, as you said.

    Ultra is my favourite Depeche Mode album - sorry Alan

    I guess there was still some influence from the SOFAD days. Exciter was the first album where there was a huge difference.

    Exciter is their weakest album :P

    I didn't really listen to their albums after Playing the Angel. I'll listen to them later today though. I was pretty obsessed with this band between like 15-18 years old. I used to watch the Devotional tour dvd all the time.

    a lot of people really don't like sounds of the universe but i think it's their last great album. not as good as playing the angel, but still pretty great.

    I think the last few albums have better highlights than being anywhere close to solid albums. In Chains, Secret to the End, No More (This Is the Last Time) are my personal faves!

    Yeah Delta is a definately their best effort post PTA but even Delta could use dropping a couple of tracks to tighten things up a bit. Could never get into Spirit though and i tried. I Imagine they have one album left and i really hope they bring those classic hooks back, less crooning more melody!

    Playing The Angel is amazing...It definitely picks up where Ultra left off and leaves Exciter in the dust. 'Precious' is vintage DM. And the 2005/2006 tour is probably my favorite tour of theirs. They were firing on all cylinders around 05-06 and Dave carried that momentum to his solo album 'Hourglass' which is basically like PTA Part 2..............The last few albums have some great moments and don't deserve the hate they get although none come close to their 80s/90s/PTA heyday....Apparently I am one of the few who thought Spirit was good

    Thanks guys, I did listen to Spirit and Sounds of the Universe today. I actually enjoyed them a lot - Spirit more than SOTU though. There is something cool about the homemade sound of the albums - it sounds almost like they recorded the album in a makeshift studio on their own. It's still very sophisticated though. I think Dave got better as a singer with age. I remember he took vocal lessons pretty seriously around the PTA era.

    Yeah I remember getting Exciter on CD and feeling like they could do better, though there were some songs I liked like I Feel Loved. PTA had some good tunes on it - felt they did better on it since they let Dave in on the writing process more. That excitement and enthusiasm probably was infectious to the whole album making.
