Preshow music so far is some good ambient / minimal techno. Lots of hi hats with tons of reverb

At most shows I've been to it's standard practice for the headliner's equipment to be covered for the opening act

It at least partly has to do with keeping the headliners gear from rattling and resonating during the opening act's set - kind of a courtesy to them.

The curtains are just covering rigging.

the stage is empty besides the screen, nin cloaked stuff and explosions stuif. Huge and fairly empty right now

Speakers are rigged really high above the stage so I'll probably stay back. Sound may be shit up close

Yep sounds like shit up front. You need to be at least half way back to get good sound. Back of the floor sounds best for full effect
