Trent interview BBC Radio 1, December 5th - discusses Dragon Tattoo, HTDA, NIN future

Just been interviewed by Zane Lowe, about Dragon Tattoo, HTDA and NIN. Highlights were as follows:-

Wasn't initially keen on Karen O as the vocalist, but it worked out very well in the end. Is a fan of Immigrant Song, but was wary of fucking up a Led Zep tune, as so few artists do covers of them.
Oscar is on his downstairs mantelpiece - sure you all wanted to know that!
Taking a break from mixing HTDA with AM at the moment - sugested that the sound on that album couldn't be more different from the Dragon Tattoo soundtrack
Didn't sound like future soundtrack work was lined up as yet
Potential for tour dates with HTDA once the album comes out

And the highlight for me, and many of us I'm sure:-
Will be spending the majority of next year working on the next NIN album.

Trent interview BBC Radio 1, December 5th - discusses Dragon Tattoo, HTDA, NIN future

Anyone catch the (phone) interview with Trent on BBC Radio 1 with Zane Lowe tonight at about 8.30pm?? Would be great to have a recording! It'll be on iplayer eventually, but i'm impatient.
They also played March of the Pigs

I can't believe he was on Radio 1 as well, probably one of the most mainstream radio stations in England.

Radio 1 is the only station he ever appears on, except that one time I think he was on Kerrang!, don't see how it's surprising.

    Appreciate the 'help'.

I was suprised he was on Radio One because it's mainstream and generally plays awful, Beiber type music.
Not exactly where Trent's music base is.

Zane Lowe (despite his like of Skrillex and his ability to peak PA systems) is actually pretty cool. He digs Deftones, Queens Of The Stone Age and NIN... stuff that other mainstream DJs in the UK wouldn't touch. He's pretty matey with Josh Homme, and I'm sure Trent too.

Here you go guys: (youtube rip - nothing fancy) File name: Zane Lowe chats to Trent Reznor.mp4 File size: 28.49 MB

Nice to hear him mumble into the phone again.

Radio 1 only plays top 40 radio during the day, it's generally quite different in the evening. Also Zane Lowe is the king of NIN fappers. Trent usually pops up on XFM when he does the circuit too. The even BBC Radio stations are far superior, though.

Thank you for this! I was about to post the audio from the iPlayer site, but it only has an avg. bitrate of 32, whereas this has an avg. bitrate of 96.

Here's just the audio extracted from the mp4 file in m4a format. I didn't do anything like tagging, just renamed the file.

    Thank you Ickekitty!

Is this the first/only VIDEO or AUDIO (in this case) interview that we have gotten from either of the two concerning the soundtrack/other things to come so far?

Thanks so much for the responses! Good news all round!
My snotty comment earlier was because my internet was messed up and only showed one pretty unhelpful comment for some reason!

Is anyone going to need transcript, as we already have audio? If not, I won't finish typing it up

so maybe HTDA early next year, followed by a tour while Trent works on new NIN...which we may see by the end of 2012.... maybe YearZero 2 timed to coincide with the HBO mini-series?

The interview calmed me way down after my rant about the Hurt cover. Excited for the soundtrack and HTDA now. Hope HTDA comes out at least in the next few months...

That type of stuff is generally frowned upon. I remember him mentioning in an interview about what type of music he plays for his kid, but it dealt with a relevant question. Any other time his family is brought up, he volunteers the info. Bedsides his family has little relevance to his sound track work.

If an interviewer had a day with him, they might raise it. If they have less than 30 minutes, they're not going to waste time on non-musical questions

Understood, yet still partially surprised for many fans, it is recognized as a major step in the artist's life and is to an extent of interest

And yet there are many artists and celebs who keep it totally private. He's allowed that much without question and people need to respect his decision to do so. I admire him for that.
