I do like it, maybe i'll get flamed but i like it even more than "Our Love to Admire", i think they did a huge effort and the last album is very similar to "Turn on your bright lights" in many ways (The First one is my fave Interpol album, period)

The first one is the best. They've had good songs since then, but the albums have been patchy. Also, this band is a one-trick pony, that trick being doing impersonations of Joy Division (yes, a cliche to say that about Interpol, but it's the truth).

Actually no. Interpol are "rockier" and more guitar-based. JD are more drums/keyboard-driven. Give Closer a twirl.

i always considered the band to be very much joy division by way of television/tom verlaine's guitar playing. still have a place for the first record, haven't cared for any of them since.

I always thought Turn on the Bright Lights was very overrated. I loved the hell out of Antics and even Our Love to Admire. Didn't care for the last one though.

By statistics I skip less on the self-titled album...but I'm not sure if it's my favorite. It's the darkest of all the albums, to me. Concentrated, at that, so I'm not always in the mood.

I wonder if they're going to say something wildly different on the next album. Or try to.

With Carlos departure they have to, maybe a bit post-rockish?

    Good point. Orchestral...

On that subject, I know people say the bass has been blah on the last two records (I disagree), but I hope they take care with that next time around. Or maybe Daniel K. can write some lines like I believe he has in the past.

"Orchestral Interpol", they can pull this through!
The last album and "Our Love to admire" has a lot of atmospheres, almost like a kind of soundtrack, they can explore this ideas expanding them, i don't want them take a commercial direction again, i like "Antics" but i think that concept has been overplayed by bands like Editors or The National

I'm just saying Carlos was behind the orchestral bits. Without him I'd imagine they'll leave it out. Or maybe not do as much.

I was never a big fan of the first album. Liked a few songs, but nothing much. I did really enjoy half of Antics, but past Slow Hands, it wasn't for me, except C'mere.

Our Love to Admire was their only album I liked the whole thing. My favorite from them. And I do love the last album, or more precisely, the five first songs.

I saw them once in 2010, it was quite good. Nothing special.

So, I've been giving Interpol's self titled another chance and it's fucking growing on me. Love the catatonic pulse of the whole record. Flat and dark as hell. I love rediscovering shit.

After finally falling in love with ...Bright Lights (only a decade late haha) I thought I'd give the post-Antics stuff a shot. The self-titled is actually quite good. A hell of a lot more interesting than Our Love to Admire, which bored me half to death. Bright Lights is far and away the best thing the band has done though. Antics, which I've enjoyed since it was first released, has great songs but the atmosphere is nowhere near the level of the debut. The s/t seems to have reclaimed a little bit of the magic though.

Unrelated, but I surely can't be the only person who visualizes the puppet from the "Evil" video singing every single Interpol song. I guess it could be a result of watching that video an ungodly amount of times over the years (it's one of my all-time favourites)...

Yay, a little praise for S/T! Something about it, for me, I've almost always taken to...although it is the moodiest throughout. Or darkest.

And I only visualize the puppet for "Evil", who I think looks like Paul.

    Re: Interpol

I gave s/t a spin again today. There's a couple of songs I still like. But as a whole it's not nearly as depressing as it should have been imo.

The beauty of the Self Titled is how inaccessible it seems for the longest time but how it slowly starts to embrace you once you're in tune with it (much like a scared shelter dog ;D ). This is a record I've had in my iPod for over a year and been overall bummed out by, with the exception of a few tunes.

The two first songs of the album are still my least favorite (although, still growing), but everything from Summer Well, Lights, Always Malaise and forward is probably the best stuff they've recorded since Turn on the...

"The Undoing" might even be Interpol's masterpiece imo.

^ WTF The first two songs are emboldened! The fact that at least "Memory Serves" can fly by anyone's head has me staring into nothingness.

Other than that, I could Like your post very well. Cool dog story, brochacha.

That's inspiring, cause, Memory Serves is my least favorite between the two. The first one has already kinda grown on me; looking forward to see how-and-if Memory Serves develops with a few more spins.

anyone got Sam Fogarino's Empty Mansions album?
This song has a Marilyn Manson/Melvins vibe, I kind of dig it:
