Exactly lol. Everyone knows it's a sorta lazy blanket term but this is an internet forum. You could say the same thing for a 'metal' thread. It's an argument that's a bazillion years old.

Check out Desert Dwellers and Bluetech.
Yeah this song is sort of blowing my mind. I'm definitely in that purist crowd that only enjoys old-school Tricky. Anything after Angels With Dirty Faces is hit-or-miss at best, or just totally unlistenable, imo.
But damn, this song is so cool. It doesn't sound exactly like his old stuff, per se, but it's got darkness, style, atmosphere, minimalism, beautiful vocals, everything that made him so cool back in the day. Hopefully the rest of the album is like just like this.
Second single from Tricky's "False Idols" album dropped. Hey Love
SPOILER ALERT: It's awesome.
Tricky performing 'Maxinquaye' in its entirety with Martina Topley-Bird for the first time together in 15 years?
HOLY shit. I sure hope someone records this.

if by DA you mean dark ambient, well...yeah. NWW is UTTERLY FUCKING TERRIFYING.
As far as genre names, i once saw an interviewer ask Tricky what it was like to be an innovator of trip hop...something along these lines.
Tricky, none to pleased, responded "it's not trip-hop. it's ACID MUTANT.
This was like 12 years ago, and it STILL cracks me up.
I utterly ADORE tricky. I've seen him 3 times, and when you see him, he makes sure that everyone at the club gets a chance to chill and talk with him...or he used to anyway. he's just super cool like that. he's a down to earth guy, and his live shows are amazing.
As far as suggestions in this genre...Martina does solo stuff, but i'm sure most of you know that. In the "not quite trip-hop catagory," there's baxter, boards of canada and broadcast.
Like a lot of you, i quit hanging on tricky's every word after angels with dirty faces, but Maxinequay, PMT, Nearly God...these are some of my favorites of all time.
Here is my best suggestion on discovering new trip-hop, downtempo, ambient etc.
if you have a Roku box, there is a channel called Earbits with a mind-bending selection of radio stations that fall under the electronica umbrella (like dark minimal psy-trance...that's how freaking specific it gets.)
Click on the trip hop, downtempo, or ambient channel and enjoy.
if you DONT have a Roku and DO have wi-fi, get one. it is sincerely the best fifty dollars i've ever spent. It streams ALL KINDS of shit to your tv, including netflix, news, weather, games...and a LOT of the content (like earbits) is free.
Sorry i ramble so much, y'all.

Hell yes. Tricky returns to form. I've been listening to Juxtapose a lot lately.
Apparently Tricky does feel a lot more free not tied to Domino records.
He's announced new albums for January and May 2014.
False Idols is really really good. I actually didn't mind Mixed Race, but this blows it and anything since Maxinquaye out of the water.
I have and will always love this song...maybe because I have always been a fan of +Live and Ed Kowalczyk's vocals kill in this song.
A great track indeed, but for me, Blowback's pinnacle is Bury The Evidence.
I like the new Tricky album "False idols": he's still got his own touch.
New Tricky video using Instagram pictures submitted by fans. Caught mine at about :31 and 2:06 in!

They just announced Tricky's playing a show at the Granada here in town on Oct 16th. I'M SO STOKED. This is probably the best concert I have to look forward to, next to NIN in September. And the Granada's such a tiny venue, it'll be perfect.
Sadly, no. It was something the venue posted. They said they've been sitting on a couple of big show announcements that they were gonna make (one of the being Franz Ferdinand. Ehhh), so for all I know, there are probably other places waiting to make an announcement as well. I'm surprised it wasn't announced by Tricky's Facebook or anything. But hey, I won't complain. $20 is absolutely worth it. I'd pay triple that if I had to.
Time to reload my iPod with all my Tricky stuff and re-digest it for the next few months!
Handing out flyers for local venue = Free tickets to Tricky. YES.
You smug son of a...
Thanks for all the discussion, you turned me on to some new music

CANNOT WAIT.
Tricky announces new album ‘Adrian Thaws’ out September 8th, 2014.
Following the creation of his own False Idols imprint and last year’s album of the same name, Tricky returns in the fall of 2014 with a new studio project that shares the name he was given at birth: Adrian Thaws. “Calling it Adrian Thaws is saying you don’t really know me,” says Tricky of his 11th album. “So many times people have tried to put a finger on me and every album I go to a different place.”
Recorded in Tricky’s home studio in London, Adrian Thaws is a musically adventurous project and collaborators on the album include Francesca Belmonte, Nneka, Mykki Blanco, Bella Gotti, Tirzah, Blue Daisy and Oh Land.
Tracklisting:
1. Sun Down feat. Tirzah
2. Lonnie Listen feat. Mykki Blanco & Francesca Belmonte
3. Something In The Way feat. Francesca Belmonte
4. Keep Me In Your Shake feat. Nneka
5. The Unloved (Skit)
6. Nicotine Love feat. Francesca Belmonte
7. Gangster Chronicles feat. Bella Gotti
8. I Had A Dream feat. Francesca Belmonte
9. My Palestine Girl feat. Blue Daisy
10. Why Don’t You feat. Bella Gotti
11. Silly Games feat. Tirzah
