Buzzo's stories often have to be experienced live or on video. His dry sense of humor and deadpan anecdotes are often misunderstood, and when you think about what he's actually saying ($30,000 worth of damage to a brand new arena dressing room or Zombie trash talking), well, he's actually kinda telling the truth huh? Plus, why the hell should he be "thankful" in an interview 16 years later, how lame would a thankful interview have been? Buzzo's often been outspoken and humorously "bitter".

this is more like former nin member spotting, but i happened to tune into Directv's Guitar Center Sessions featuring Sublime with Rome and Josh Freese was drumming for them.

here's more info if you are interested: http://gc.guitarcenter.com/sessions/sublime/

An old tradition, going back to the first seven Queen albums... because critics would hear Brian May's guitar sounds and mistake them for synths (which has also happened to Tom Morello) they put that text on the sleeves.

I've always thought it's kind of cute how people feel a need to clarify what is real and what is synthesized on their recordings. Like the "extra real drums" on Broken (which are probably the only "real" drums on the whole CD).

Elite Gymnastics' James Brooks lists a NIN show as one of his favorite. The guy actually often mentions NIN and has stated that he wants his next album to mean to people what Pretty Hate Machine meant to him.

So, this is random & awesome & unexpected (and I just tweeted it at @ninhotline in case they hadn't heard yet).

Apparently Dave Sitek (TV on the Radio, Maximum Balloon) just started a label called Federal Prism and the first release is a 12" Picture disc from Telepathe* of their song "Destroyer" (which I believe is the title track from their upcoming sophomore album). The b-side is a remix of that track from Trent/Atticus/Alessandro. Awesome?? Check it out:

    http://federalprism.com/

*I've been waiting on a new LP from Telepathe since they released "Throw Away This", and the other samples they've released are just as promising. Hoping this means Destroyer's release is imminent!

I'd love to buy the digital release without dropping $25 on vinyl I don't care about.

Tell me about it. I'm so poor I can't even entertain the idea of buying the vinyl.

I know Atticus has individually remixed Telepathe before (I'm sure sheepdean has link for that on his FYAR tumblr), but this has to be the first time these 3 gents have collaborated on a remix. They all do fine work on their own, so this ought to be pretty cool. When was the last time there was a remix by Nine Inch Nails or Trent Reznor? There was the Zoo Station cover, but that was very much a cover.

Cool. Wasn't there a picture of Cortini in [supposedly TR/AR's] studio posted a few months back? Or am I making this up?

I remember this, too. I guess we finally know what he was up to! That, and I wouldn't be surprised if he twiddled a few knobs for the new Destroy Angels EP (or LP) - and *fingers crossed* has remix of them waiting to be released.

And here's "Destroyer" in its non-remixed form. Should still be a free d/l!

Well, vinyl+shipping is $42, which is a fucking lot of money for a single, even if I do like all artists involved. I might have to go whore myself out or something...

Well I just bought the damn vinyl. My stupid collector's mentality.

    woopay

EDIT: Well it gave me the download for the original song and the remix. The remix is AWESOME. It was still too much.

after consulting ninwiki (http://www.ninwiki.com/Trent_Reznor) i would assume that his remix work for U2's 'vertigo' in 2005 was his last remix work...
unfortunately the official wikipedia is an even better place to look: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trent_R...graphy#Remixes

and please also note the horrible misspelling of alessandro's name at the official site (http://federalprism.com/)

i checked a few places first, but is there anywhere to purchase/download the single on it's own without the vinyl? if not, would anyone care to share a link via pm for the remix? i'm willing to purchase a download, if i can, but if not, i'd still like a copy of the track.

hey, sorry this was not meant to be a flame. i for myself edit the ninwiki sometimes.
what i meant was that i did not find a listing on ninwiki which can be compared to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trent_R...graphy#Remixes
i.e. specific listings/pages/articles/whatever for TR remixes/vocal contributions/instrumental contributions/production credits/writing credits/..... on ninwiki there is "only" one long flat list..

yeah, what he said. I'm a fan of Dave Sitek, and obviously of Trent, and I will be happy to support what looks like a cool new indie label in the future, but there's no way I'm paying 25$ not including shipping for a single from a band i never heard about before today.
If anyone can DM me a link ill be beyond happy, and obviously, if an official download option opens, ill buy.

I clearly forgot how badass that remix was.

Also, good news: it appears the digital single will be released on October 9th.

    yup
The piano bit is sped up a bit and distorted. It also uses the distorted bass line with Trent's vocals in it. Other than the minimal drum beat, it's entirely pieces from the end of Right Where it Belongs.

So hypothetically, if Trent was ever like..."yo, that song is using my song" he could sue? Because that song is on iTunes?

I don't know how sampling works but why is he allowed to make money off of that? Unless of course the rights were cleared for the sample. 1st Round Records is Sam Adams (that Boston rapper kid) and I think he's big label affiliated.

Trent has a FUCK load of samples in his music, mostly on PHM, TDS and Ghosts. I doubt he's going to sue because one crappy song sampled him - hell, he may have given consent

How much of NIN's music has been used on trailers? I don't know how much control Trent has over the Interscope related stuff really... probably not a lot if the Lights In The Sky video was shut down so easily.
Good resource for samples by the way, here's a bunch of artists who have sampled NIN: http://www.whosampled.com/sampled/Nine%20Inch%20Nails/

I'm not an expert, but I believe that he stopped using so many samples because of how expensive had become to use them in the early/mid 90s.

If I remember well, he complained about how expensive was to use the sampler from "Fire" in "Lunchbox", and how he mostly wouldn't use samples anymore on his next albums beacuse of this ("The Fragile", "With Teeth" or "YZ" don't have as many samples as "PHM" or "TDS" afaik, and I remember when he explained how using a Public Enemy's sample in a Saul Williams song had cost them almost 10.000$). I would assume that these days he barely uses samples except if they are free, really cheap or essential for a song (bioshock/youtube sampler, Hussein sampler, Mothman sampler, etc).

I also remember how he said that he didn't mind if someone used a sample from one of his songs, but how it also depended of how much was used, because if somebody used a lot of "Down In It" (he cited this particular song) for a rap song with a guy just talking shit above his music, it would be very different to just using some sampled noise or something like that. I don't remember where I read all of these things, but I guess that it was in the articles section from The NIN Hotline.

My guess is that these days he wouldn't ask for money if he really liked the artist sampling his music or if the artist was a friend, but otherwise he should ask for money the same way he has to pay if he wants to use a sampler from someone else. 25 years ago the use of samplers was very different, this is why he used many more samples in the past.

Very odd. There were at least two posts talking about how the song sampled Right Where It Belongs. Nothing negative about the artist or video. just "hey is that...?"
I can't find them now. Is the artist deleting the comments? If so, THAT'S fucked up.

edit: yup. I had a tab open from a few hours ago.

I assume one of those posts is an ETS member since it was similar my original reply to R-Dot-Young. If so, can you confirm?

Haha nice catch! Busted it seems. I actually know Yonas on a somewhat acquaintance level (did some vocal referencing/writing for a little through the producer of his last LP). I tweeted at him out of excitement because I'm a huge NIN nerd and get excited whenever I know someone who likes NIN but didn't get a confirmation on whether it was the sample or not (clearly it is).

I didn't post on the youtube video, I'd be interested to see if it was an ETS member though.

That was an ETS member who posted that comment on youtube - I only know this because he was one of the guys who donated to TOIOU.
