The drum solo section sounded awesome. They did a good take on it.

Oh shit. I actually have a NIN-spotting to make.

I went to see this documentary called "The other F-word" today at the Gothenburg International Film Festival.
It's about punk musicians who've adapted their lives to parenting. Loved it. Well, half way through the film Josh Freese shows up with his little kids throwing diapers in the backyard. Check it out if you can, Duane Peters from the U.S. Bombs' story is pretty heartbreaking.
I actually JUST saw this. There are a few shots of Freese drumming for NIN and he mentions why he left (not enough time with his family)

    Great documentary, loved it!

Does anyone know if the SoS PDF is a DRM'd PDF, or a plain one? I ask, because I'd only read it on devices which don't support Adobe DRM (NExus 7, or iPhone, or my Linux laptop). If so I'll just plump for the print copy.

This is a video from the 'Sound City' documentary... it is a 30 second snippet of Trent's first musical memory.

This song is a tribute to Closer.
The band used the same beat and called the song "Más Cerquita" which means "A Little Closer" in spanish.

If you enjoy listening to music in other languages (and high pitched vocals) you might enjoy it:

At first I thought, wow, I thought that guy died a long time ago, but it's a different Bill Kennedy.

"There's nobody better at triumphant nihilism than Trent Reznor. I didn't have a backup plan. If I didn't get Last, I don't know what I would have done."

hah, i was wondering about that!
It was a great closer for that movie.

    He writes:

"At least NIN and their heavy-duty arena crew were nice to us and that whole tour, despite [sic] the rock and roll posturing horseshit was a cake walk compared to the next band we did a big wheel "arena" tour with, which was White Zombie..."

I read that too, i live in Sioux Falls, but i was 11 at the time, so yea i was waaaay to young. I dint get into NIN until like 1997, blows my mind to think my favorite band played here!! I did get to see Tool play the shit hole arena in 2002, though. So that kinda makes up for it. But still tho

    Agreed. It suits most perfectly.
Not really NIN spotting, but there was a poster for West Indian Girl stuck to a window - near the start of the same movie (Cabin in the Woods).

I stumbled across the following "interesting" article regarding Buzz from The Melvins' tour experiences with White Zombie and........our beloved NIN.

Music is subjective, but its hard to like the guy after reading what he says about NIN.

Except that links directly to the post, not the copy & pastery of theprp. On your point of whether or not you like him after what he said... it's all perspective I think. He makes a pretty good point about smashing shit, and I'm sure if you ask Trent today, he'd say basically the same thing. Extrapolating smashing shit on tour to having helicoptering parents is kind of weird, but as far as being 'heavily sheltered' - Trent grew up in western PA in the 70s. He's said himself, there wasn't a whole lot going on out there.

The 'synth crap' line isn't all that unusual for a west coast guitar player. Look at the liner notes of Rage Against the Machine's Battle of Los Angeles - "There are no synthesizers on this record." Whoop-de-doo!

haven't seen this before, but it sure is a cool thing of Trent to do:

And more soundboard audio of NIN with decent video, too, so that's always a nice find!

It seems like you're talking to the wrong person (or maybe I'm missing something?)
also, king buzzo can be a total prick, but he's a great musician. Melvins are awesome (and actually use synths quite a lot, despite being a guitar band).

I was more referring to the general tone of the blog post. He just sounds hateful instead of thankful that some pretty big bands decided to take them on the road with them.
