Sometimes simply not being drowsy, hungry or full. It's also actually lot more relieving and uplifting than I thought too.

the hs football stadium in this tiny little town, i could literally throw a ball from our backyard and hit it.
and the team has won state before, and people get REALLY fucking excited about hs football in the texas panhandle.
So we decided that, fuck it, we would go to the game last night.
It was a hell of a lot of fun! We are following the standings and everything (it actually comes on the NEWS out here.)

We won 62 to 6 and it was a hell of a lot cooler than just watching tv for friday night entertainment

In the last couple weeks, I've had -

-A three-day weekend followed immediately by a five-day weekend, during which I saw The Glitch Mob in St. Louis and spent some time back home.
-Much-needed repairs made to my car. 3 of my 4 axle bearings were bad, one axle was bad, cruise control out, spongy breaks - ALL done, phew.
-A new fucking computer, finally! I can phase out my relic Sony Vaio from 2007! It's a 21-inch Mac desktop, specs perfect for my needs.
-Metal Gear Solid 5. Just...Metal Gear Solid 5.
-A new entertainment center that my mom bought at a garage sale and custom-remade herself to fit all my records, turntable, and of course TV.
-A NEW PUPPY OMGWTFSOCUTEFUCK. An 8-week-old Australian Shepherd/lab mix. I named him Sagan, and he's the best. He was the runt of the litter, and the last one to find a home after someone else changed their mind on taking him because he was "too much lab" for them.

Man. Shit's awesome right now. Just gotta keep up all the work and I'll be back on my way to working on a future for myself that doesn't involve apartment maintenance. (Although, apparently I'm the "good-looking" maintenance guy, so I guess that's nice!)

I went to visit a lifelong friend yesterday (he and his wife were my parent's best friends when we were growing up, so i've known him since i was a baby.)

Anyway, he has liver cancer and bone cancer. But he is facing it with an awe inspiring optimism and grace.
We talked at length about what the afterlife might entail, fear of death, etc.

I also got my first uhhhh bracelet? You know, the bracelets for causes or whatever that everyone wears? IDK what the kids are calling them. They are being sold to raise money for his treatments.

    http://imgur.com/uIPXslQ
They are one dollar, but we paid five hundred for ours.

If anyone is passionate about cancer and wants to buy one of the bracelets, let me know-it goes directly to this dude's treatment.

Booked our two week vacation for Hawaii in February. Been saving for a year or so, but had to go all-inclusive this time around...puuuuumped.

I decided to get a tally chart tattoed on my arm to mark my 2 year sobriety. This way the more years I stay sober, the cooler the tattoo will look!

Being told that i am permanently guestlisted for my other favorite band, Old 97s.

Now i figured as much, as i've known and supported them for 20 plus years, stopped counting shows at about 50, and have only bought tickets once or twice for charity shows. It's sheer luck-my dad worked with the drummer at the last job he had before their band took off and he was able to quit.

But hearing it put that way, "You're always on the guest list man! Bring it!" -It made my day

Another new bird for me today: an American Oystercatcher (lifer #492) that's been hanging out on the jetties north of the pier in Newport Beach, Orange County for the past week. See the photos on my Flickr page here. People on the Atlantic or Gulf Coasts might be familiar with this bird, while the bird's counterpart here on the Pacific Coast is the aptly named Black Oystercatcher, a specialist of rocky coastlines. The two species meet in Baja California, where they hybridize, and occasionally a pure(ish) American like the one I saw today makes its way into California. And then the birders rejoice.

Booked my first gig in a year and 3 quarters in January. Definitely excited, definitely nervous. The last 2 years have been a combination of devastating, triumphant and mundane. Music has always been the constant in my life whether listening or creating it. Playing some random show on a Monday might mean nothing to one, but to me it represents a lot.

despite sleeping in until 9:15 yesterday (we usually get up by 8 the latest), we got up, made a delicious breakfast (muffin-pan frittatas, first time ever), cleaned out our storage space in the basement of our apartment building (which we haven't organized/cleaned at all and have just been piling stuff into since we moved in here 3.5 years ago), decorated for fall, and just generally packed a lot of fun into our day, despite never leaving our apartment (unless you count leaning out the windows to check out the super blood moon).

    fall decorations:

Duder, I left the fund raising site up on my computer yesterday and didn't hit the donate key yet. GAH,

Congratulations - I read your synopsis. Pure gold - I actually know some schools in New England that moved physics up to 9th grade- I get it now. Totally worked. Good luck.

what up @icecream , how the hell you been?
I worked at Braums for some years and i really miss it sometimes, @Dra508 . People are happy to receive ice cream, and it made ME happy to give it to them, and also to try all the different ice creams myself.

I am cheered up because today is October first. Yes, i know it's cliche and sounds like a "goth" thing, but i seriously LOVE this time of year. The chill in the air feels as if everything has "quickened." It still gives me this excited little rush to feel it. At noon today, the sun was out and it was 59 degrees!

New company that I've been with for a couple of months actually has a holiday party. I can't tell you how long it's been since I've worked at a place that actual tried to give back, reward, appreciate their employees. Employee gift possibilities: Go Pro, Beats, or Fitbit. Wow

I have nothing against Renoir, and generally hate cultural protests, but that one made chuckle. For once it isn't born out of prudery or ignorance, that's refreshing...

I have an Art Minor and I dislike impressionism, but that made me laugh, yup. "God hates Renoir."

    Ahahahahahahaha this one is hilarious.
