I gave California a listen for the first time a few days ago, and it's bonkers, but in the best way possible. It's such an awesome record! I've been a fan of FNM for ages, but I've only just recently started to check out some of Mike's other projects.

"California" is among my Top 5 Patton albums (of all his projects...)
I like all the Bungle albums, but "California" is something else..

None of Them Knew They Were Robots and Ars Moriendi are fantastically wacky songs. Sweet Charity is one of the best Patton songs ever too, I think. I really like how the album is melodic, cacophonous, strange and catchy all at once.

"Pink Cigarette" is also an awesome tune; love that strange ending!

My Top 5 favorite "Patton Albums" (no particular order):

    - Faith No More "Angel Dust"
    - Tomahawk "Mit Gas"
    - Fantomas "The Director's Cut"
    - Mr Bungle "California"
    - "Mondo Cane"

I just recently purchased an original vinyl pressing of Mr. Bungles' second album Disco Volante. That was probably the first experimental record I ever really got into, and significantly helped set the pace for all the weird music I would delve into thereafter.

Just some absolutely warped shit going on within that record. There's a parallel groove on one of the sides that gives up a nifty hidden track in the middle of the album if you manually place the stylus on it. That was easily my favorite Patton period, when we got Angel Dust, King For a Day and Disco Volante all within a three-year span..
