Whenever I'm in a hospital at night time (like now) I'm instantly transferred back to the 90s and reminded of The X-Files and Leonard Betts.

New season confirmed.
TV Line is reporting that it will be ten episodes.

I sure hope they do a better job with consistency and prioritize the mythos over the standalone stuff. I mean yeah the filler/standalone stuff can be fun but that was only a necessity because of the 20+ episode seasons.
We only got fucking 6 last time and they couldn't resist dicking around, i thought with only that many episodes there would have been absolutely zero room for error but c'est la vie.
We get 4 more episodes. They better not be wasted.
They really need to fix the errors in the title sequence this time. Its disrespectful to the shows legacy.
I noticed Netflix no longer has The X-Files, aside from the DVD option.
except the mythology episodes in the most recent season were such a mess. the only GREAT episode was the one with Rhys Darby as the were-monster, which was a standalone, and was everything i love about the x-files. i really wanted to like the mythology episodes, but they were just frustrating.
The company that did the HD remaster claims they couldnt find out what fonts were used, so they guessed (incorrectly) and both the shows title and the actors and creators names are in different fonts than the original.
Plus the text at the bottom of the ufo photograph has a typo in it too.
Fox used this intro for S10, hopefully they fix it because it bugs me big time.

I WANT TO BELIEBE
10 sounds a lot better. More time to make sense of things. I think six episodes backed them into a corner. Loved the monster of the week episodes though.
I am currently working my way through season 4. Assuming I don't watch all the episodes before the new season, can I just jump into the new episodes or should I watch them in chronological order?
I find that, as of season 4, I much prefer the stand-alone stories. Some great stuff. I find the mythology arc to be often engaging, but plodding, frustrating and often anticlimatic.
I can't even keep track of it. Mulder's dad was murdered, his sister is missing, the smoking man is involved, Scully had some kind of an implant, there is an alien invasion imminent...
Did you watch the Fight The Future movie?
i share your frustration, however, i think they probably knew there was going to be another season, hence the "monster of the week" episodes where they didn't seem to belong.
I think it's going to be the hot ticket when it's all said and done.
edit: furthermore, ALL of the new episodes were "GREAT."
But i am a fanboy, so my opinion doesn't count for much. :P
They're at a point where they should just stick to Monster of the Week episodes in my opinion, it's ALWAYS been the stronger choice when it comes to the show. Mythology episodes have been the low point ever since they tied up the original Syndicate plot line in season 6's "Two Fathers" / "One Son" arc.
They could have UFO or alien based episodes but not make them tie into a Mythology arc. I love Davis and the Cigarette Smoking Man but to retcon his death and have his face replaced was a bit of a farce that even I thought was goofy and I usually overlook most on this show.
I'm still game to love and watch anything though. I just hope the Mythology episodes are on point. "My Struggle" arc in season 10 was weak, even compared to the wacky Supersoldiers storyline in Season 9.
I had somehow missed the "Dreamland" episodes until now, and wow, right up there with the best episodes of the series. Michael McKean owns those episodes in a way that not many guest stars do on this show (Clyde Bruckmans Reprose comes to mind.)
Interesting idea @Space Suicide
So after 6 month ive watched the entire series and both movies....
FAVORITE MIND BLOWN MOMENTS
(spoilers for a 20 year old tv show ahead)
1. E.B.E.
After Mulder takes Scully to meet The Lone Gunmen for the first time, Langley tells Mulder he "Just had lunch with the guy that shot Kennedy" and "He is old now, but he was dressed as a cop on the grassy knoll.". MIND BLOWN, one of my all time favorite documentaries is The Men Who Killed Kennedy, where they float the idea that a guy dressed as a cop fired the kill shot.
2. Jose Chung's From Outer Space
Mulder is in a diner with an Air Force pilot that is involved with an abduction program. When the military shows up to take the pilot into custody, Mulder frantically asks the pilot "What about the third alien?" to which the pilot casually responds "Who? Lord Kinbote?". MIND FUCKING BLOWN!!!
3. Field Trip
During Mulder and Scullys joint hallucination, Scully ends up in Mulders apartment with a missing couple, and Mulder tells her he has something to show her. Taking her back to his bedroom, revealing a Grey and telling her that "I abducted him!" Scullys reaction sells it and MIND IS BLOWN!
Oh, it's been confirmed. I heard rumors. I'm looking forward to it. There was enough good stuff in the last run to keep me interested. I liked their monster of the week shows better in that last run, than the alternate reality mythology, just because I worked so hard to move past that finale that basically proved none of they mythology was real. That took a long time to process. I was disappointed. But the new shows were good, otherwise.
11th season? Good! (but I'd still prefer Millennium...:-)
Hot damn. I sure am looking forward to it.
Also I think I read somewhere that they ARE gonna have more monster of the week episodes this time.
this starts wednesday it seems, the trailers are pretty good, there's hope.
Yeah I'm fucking thrilled.
There have been some low points in the past though, like the second movie.
But I'm still really excited.
