2020: A year to kick off a new decade in music

With 2019 in the bag, and may be one of the best years in music in recent years, let's look forward to a new decade of music.

What are some of the artists releasing new music this year you are excited for?

I'm always on the look out for new music outside of my "usual suspects" and usually use these lists as recommendations for what to watch out for.
Post your favorite records as they come out here to let everyone else know what's awesome!

For me, bands rumored to be releasing (or at least recording) new music in 2020 are:

-NIN of course. But, I don't expect a full release this year TBH, maybe a song or 2, but I think they will be writing/recording this year and release a full record next year
    -Night Club
    -Priest
    -Marilyn Manson
    -Imperative Reaction
    -The Offspring
    -Rancid
    -Foo Fighters
    -Covenant
    -ohGr

2019 had so many hyped releases, but for me it felt like a pretty weak year. Tons of great bands and albums I was waiting for that just sort of felt... “eh.”

2020 is looking good. Stuff imminent or rumored that I am really pumped for...

    Carcass
    Katatonia
    Scar Symmetry (I hope)
    Testament
    Sepultura
    Megadeth
    Gojira (I hope)
    The Ocean
    At The Gates
    Caspian
    Iron Maiden
    Stendeck
    Sons of Apollo
    Grimes
    Darkane (I hope)
    Deftones

The only thing I know for sure is coming is new Old Man Gloom. Can't wait for that.

Funny, I was considering starting a similar thread! Anyway, there's plenty of music I'm looking forward to and hoping to hear in 2020:
    • New NIN album (hopefully back to proper full-length LP again)
    • Puscifer – TBA (never mind, I guess it's slated for 2021)
    • Weezer – Van Weezer (I found their Black Album more than a little disappointing, but the first single from this one sounds like a return to form)
    • The Smashing Pumpkins – Shiny and Oh So Bright, Vol. 2 & 3 (yes, two separate albums are coming this year!)
    • Prof – TBA (local Minneapolis rapper on Rhymesayers label)
    • Green Day – Father of All Motherfuckers
    • Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross – Soul
    • Ashes Divide – TBA
    • Death From Above – TBA
    • Royal Blood – TBA (I saw these guys open for QotSA in 2017 and they were great)
    • Mastodon – TBA
    • Marilyn Manson – TBA (I'm not expecting much, but I'll check it out)

    Maybe:
    • Queens of the Stone Age – TBA
    • Tom Petty – Wildflowers: All the Rest (now that Tom's widowed 2nd wife and his daughters from the previous marriage have settled their lawsuit, maybe this can finally come out)
    • Cake – TBA (they've been working on this for several years now and it was at one point said to be coming out in late 2019)
    • The Smashing Pumpkins – Christmas album (they've done some work on this, but Billy recently said he felt the results were disappointing and he planned to start over, so maybe not this year)

    Probably not, but hopefully:
    • New Rage Against the Machine

I don't think Puscifer is coming out until 2021, unfortunately.

I thought about putting Green Day on my list, but putting Green Day on any list in 2020 just seems like I'm doing something wrong, lol.
I will give the record a spin when it drops next month, but I can't say I'm expecting much.

I wasn't aware they were coming out with new stuff! Add those to my list as well!

Well, shit. You're right, scratch that. I'll add them to my 2021 list along with Ghost.

Yeah, I guess I know what you mean, but I always check out the new Green Day because they were one of the earlier bands I got into. Dookie was one of my first 5 CDs. Their last album (Revolution Radio) was actually pretty good.

I totally forgot about the Hum album. Add that to the top of my list! The live stuff they have been playing sounds huge!

Marilyn Manson's alleged foray into "Southern/Country" on his new album with Shooter Jennings, against my better judgment

More additions of mine: new Ashes Divide and new Mastodon
I'll also probably check out the new Marilyn Manson, though I'm not expecting much from him anymore.

Haha, I get what your saying. It's a guilty pleasure for me too. Rev Radio really wasn't bad at all. It has a few really good bangers (say goodbye, still breathing, youngblood, troubled time). The new stuff just isn't grabbing my attention. The song "father of all..." sounds like a kia car commercial. It really doesn't sound anything like Green Day at all. Billie Joe is actually... singing. Vocals aren't doing it for me. I hope he still does some of his old whiny/screamy lyrics on some of the other songs. I heard the album is also super short, like 27 mins or something.

man...new Rage....if it is angry, aggressive and has the lyrics I'm looking for from Zach in 2020, would be an absolute joy.

Holy Fuck's Deleter has been my #1 for 2020, Code Orange might steal that spot for me tomorrow.

Pearl Jam drops in a couple weeks. Wasn't too crazy about that 2nd single, here's hoping the album is a little weirder.

Also looking forward to new stuff from Greg Puciato, Deftones, The Cure, NIN

I just heard the new Thundercat joint he produced with Flying Lotus, It Is What It Is. An amazing LP from top to bottom. Comes out officially April 3rd. Terrific guest spots from Childish Gambino, Kamasi Washington, Ty Dolla $ign, BADBADNOTGOOD... a whole bunch of great musicians playing together, and of course all those sick bass solos!
