The only bright side of this is that this is all he can do. The rest of his agenda seems to be failing (border wall) and backfiring (healthcare reform). Pardoning Arpaio is more grandstanding from the reality tv president.

My mother was pissed about it. She hopes that the president gets killed for this shit. My dad and I were like.... "whoa". She usually never says that. She couldn't believe that sheriff handcuffed a pregnant woman and forced her to give birth. That riled her up.

I looked into it a little further, and no you don't need to be convicted or even tried to receive a presidential pardon: see Nixon.

I'm as high on the list of "I want to move north" as it gets - literally the only thing stopping me is that I'd basically be throwing away marriage, and that's not something I'm ready to do yet. But that should give you a sense of how much I loathe the way things are going here (and have been for longer than this administration).

That said: our democracy is not finished. Trump has completely and utterly failed to accomplish just about anything so far. And the things he has (minus Gorsuch) can be patched back up when someone with a fully developed adult human brain takes his place. He's making our country a cringe-worthy laughingstock. There's no question about that. But the majority of the actual damage he's done so far is temporary.
