The Fragile arrived a stylistic turning point, emerging at the point where the “alternative” sobriquet fell out of fashion and “indie” achieved dominance. Today, though, reservations about the lyrics’ outré confessionality and the music’s jam-packed, everything-plus-the-kitchen-sink gigantism seem positively quaint.
That pretty much sums it up.

i definitely think the best part of the new yahoo interview is this bit:

We’ve been f***ing around with 80 pieces of music, some of which may show up in some fashion here and there.

    Waaaaah

Trent Reznor says the “toxic environment” of social media has negatively affected music
    http://consequenceofsound.net/2017/0...ffected-music/

Blaming social media? The only music looking for the acceptance of social media is pop music. You don't make pop music? You want to make real art? Then fuck what social media has to say. And honestly, if you can't handle what the douches of the world who lurk on the interwebs have to say, then maybe you're in the wrong business. Is everyone suppose to hold hands and sing Kumbaya together? That's not the way the world works. Art always causes a reaction, whether it's positive or negative. I don't know what Trent wants to be, an artist or a pop artist? Cuz an artist wouldn't care what people had to say about their art and just did what they love and believe in. And the people who connect with what they put out in the world will connect with it. Ordinary people have no right to voice their opinion (cough free speech cough) on an open platform like social media? Trent, just say "fuck the haters" and "fuck pop music" and get on with what you do. There's plenty of amazing music out there today that is breaking boundaries and doing something different. I don't need social media to validate it. I can find it and appreciate it all on my own.

I prefer the AV club version of that interview:
    http://www.avclub.com/article/trent-...ocialMarketing

Because it calls him on being an asshole.

Also all the condecension about vinyl etc. Dude: you are an executive at apple music.

One time he had the good sense to use social media to enhance the album experience, Year Zero. what happened to that Trent?

I'd never seen this picture of Trent before. Doesn't seem like there are too many professional shots of Trent from back then.

This rant was so off-message when it comes to apple music I wonder if he is still an executive there?

You don't. You use the Walkman that it's sitting next to, natch.

never would have guessed I'd write the word "Walkman" twice in two days in 2017

Where the stars are to the right of the song title. Hover over it and click when you reach the rating you want to give.

I assume that "original iPod" nowadays is colloquial for any of the iPods that have the original jog-wheel(or faux-job-wheel) form factor. I think. I'm almost 40, so what do I know about kids these days. Aside from the fact that they need to get off of my lawn.
