Also, it's been a while since the whole Manson and reznor friendship thing that I think they really don't need each other in their lives anymore.

    But whatever.
Couldn't agree more, but do think maybe, just maybe, TR is what Manson needs right now. TR getting clean and entering the most prolific period of his career could be the motivation Manson needs to sort some of his demons out, and them getting on speaking terms might be a good thing...long shot i know, but definitely not working on music together.

It's true that TR (or someone like him) would probably be a good thing for Manson right now, yes. But, that's because his career is in the shitter right now (this can't be argued, even if you enjoyed his last album, which I did) and just about anything would help to revitalize his career, but nothing would help more than rehab or sobriety at this point. The guy's a mess and has been for years. I remember thinking how bad he seemed a couple of years ago and he's gotten much worse since then. Conversely, Trent is enjoying a bit of a career renaissance right now and he's never needed Manson less (not that he ever really needed him). There was a point when I too was bummed that these two were fighting and I wished they'd bury the hatchet and become friends again and maybe even collaborate on something, but now Manson's such a train wreck that I just want him to get his shit together or fade away into obscurity and not take anyone down with him.

I agree, i didn't mean they should work together (i didn't really phrase it that well) TR is in the form of his life musically and the 2 are so far apart at this point a collaboration wouldn't work, i meant more that TR could be a catalyst to get Manson sober again is they were speaking again. But that would be a long shot at this point.

Basically Manson wasn't happy with the songs that he had so he delayed the Valentine's release date.

Wrote three more songs with one of them being "Heaven Upside Down".

"When Marilyn Manson teased a Valentine’s Day release for his 10th studio album, the iconic musician wasn’t messing with you. In an exclusive interview with Loudwire, the Antichrist Superstar revealed why the February release date didn’t come to pass and why his upcoming album, Heaven Upside Down, will be better for it.In July 2016, Marilyn Manson announced his new album would be called SAY10 and see a Valentine’s Day 2017 release. However, Valentine’s Day came and went with no new album, new song or even a statement from Manson, leaving fans completely in the dark. When we asked Manson about it, he revealed he wasn’t happy with the album when Valentine’s Day came around and subsequently wrote three new songs that ended up being some of the record’s strongest.

“If the record came out when I intended it to, when I thought it was finished back in February, it would not have ‘Revelation #12,’ ‘Heaven Upside Down’ or ‘Saturnalia.’ Those are three of the most key songs that really tell the story,” Manson explains. “Those lyrics were all written, but I had not found a home for them. Those three songs take place in the three places where if it were a film, it’s the opening, it’s the middle and it’s the ending. Then there’s the song after ‘Heaven Upside Down,’ it’s sort of the end title credits where it’s really surmising the story of the record, which is to be interpreted by the listener.”

Manson adds, “I wanted to draw people in sonically and lyrically. I’m glad. This record was meant to come out now, for whatever reason. Things had to happen in my life, everything had to happen for a reason for it to come out now.”

In May, Manson revealed that the album would now be called Heaven Upside Down. A release date has not yet been announced. Stay tuned for our entire interview with Marilyn Manson coming soon."

It depresses me so much that as brief as it is, that's the most articulate and coherent he's sounded to me in years in an interview.

The article was just a bunch of song titles (some of which a godawful - Je$u$ Cri$i$, really?) along with pretty generic descriptions typical for a lot of music reviews.

Cached view via google indicates that it won't surprise anyone the way TPE did, but is still solid. Throwbacks to earlier sounds with a punk feel. I might be able to live with that.

No pronounced Trump-bashing despite that first teaser

Full text for the leaked review:

The God Of Fuck brings back some old memories

Get everything Marilyn Manson related here

The Pale Emperor was roundly hailed as a success for Marilyn Manson. Between albums, he’d been following best bud Johnny Depp into acting, including a disturbing turn in US witch-hunting drama Salem. He wrote itsbluesy theme song with composer Tyler Bates, and the two made an album that cast Manson in the role of a sleazy Southern preacher. For those who thought he’d been lost in the wilderness since Holy Wood, this was him finding a path out. For those who had always loved him, it was another evolutionary stage of his journey.
On 10th album Heaven Upside Down, you can’t help but feel that Manson’s glancing back to the past. Throwbacks to numerous stepping stones in Manson’s career are given a punk feel – like the band have holed up in the Tate house again, or been rehearsing live for weeks to recapture the rawness of the Antichrist Superstar days. Revelation #12 is straight out of the traps with all the mechanical, riffy twitches of yesteryear and a primal howl. WE KNOW WHERE YOU FUCKING LIVE has all the white-hot intensity of Irresponsible Hate Anthem or The Reflecting God. SAY 10 – originally the title of the record – is a big, snarling anthem that’s built for stages. KILL4ME, a film noir snapshot of a messy romance, is the closest relative to The Pale Emperor, along with the title track’s bluesy swagger. The most satisfying marriage of styles isTattooed In Reverse – opening with a punchy, ‘So fuck your Bible and your belt’, it’s a no-fucks-given glam stomp with the most wickedly tongue-in-cheek pun on the record (’I’m unstable, I’m not a show horse’), and an electro-gothdancefloor interlude.
If The Pale Emperor was banger after lowdown banger, and predecessor Born Villain went back to basics, this one sits somewhere in between – still bearing Tyler’s mark but with a nod to other eras. If there’s a criticism, it’s that the album loses some momentum after the climactic SAY 10, when it becomes more explicitly about romantic relationships. Harking back to his break-up albums, Blood Honey is an unashamedly anguished gothic ballad, while closer Threats Of Romance maintains a laidback, Bowie-esque, piano-led pace as it glories in emotional damage.
Despite the violent trailer for SAY 10 hinting at some Trump-bashing, Heaven Upside Down is more like a roll call of Manson’s favourite concerns: corruption, love, mythology and Christianity, relayed by an unbridled torrent of wordplay. Disappointingly, there’s not enough here to cause another moral panic, though JE$U$ CRI$I$skates close to the edge of controversy with its eyerolling provocation – ‘I write songs to fight and to fuck to / If you wannafight then I’ll fight you / If you wanna fuck I will fuck you / Make up your mind, or I’ll make it up for you.
Ultimately, Heaven Upside Down is a solid album that shows the Double M can still do what he got famous doing: write biting, anti-establishment goth rock full of dark, playful imagery. People who came back for The Pale Emperor might lose interest in Heaven Upside Down, but fans who have followed him throughout will clutch this close to their black hearts.

"like the band have holed up in the Tate house again". Wait, what? Did MM do this too, or is the article writer confusing them with NIN?

Didnt they do Portrait of An American Family in that house?

Edit: So it wont be as good as Pale Emperor, but better than born villain. I guess Ill like it, hopefully.

I think Portrait was being worked on in the Tate house only when TR took over the production. Original Roli Mossman sessions were done in Florida.
Manson also appeared in Gave Up video that was shot at Le Pig

    From the liner notes:

Recorded at The Record Plant (Los Angeles), The Village Recorder (Los Angeles), Pig (Beverly Hills) and Criteria (Miami).

I really don't see how his career is "in the shitter" right now. His overall body-of-work is uneven, nothing too bad, with some gems, his last album was well received and he can still do good numbers playing clubs. You could have predicted his probable career trajectory 20 years ago and figured that's how it might pan out. For an aging rockstar who is frankly a relic from the mid-to-late 90's, he's doing alright.

His last work was fairly well-received... by most of his pre-established fanbase (including myself). But The Pale Emperor was basically the only good album he's put out in the last decade. The quality of his creative output has been steadily declining since GAoG (with the exception of TPE, for which Tyler Bates deserves much of the credit). He's lost much of his relevance in 2017. I don't see how that can be denied. Several of his recent tours have been co-headlined (Rob Zombie, Smashing Pumpkins, Alice Cooper...) as well because he doesn't have the draw he once did. I mean he played at a Casino that last time he was in MN, for fuck's sake.

Yeah, we'll see. Third time's the charm right? heh.

It's premiering on Zane Lowe. So get ready for a garbage quality radio rip for your first listen!
