Working title for now because he was prolific as fuck.
We had 29 Days of Bowie so it's only fitting we devote next month or so to Prince. Who's with me?

I didn't do the Bowie thing because it was just too depressing to me but fuck it, I'm in on this one. When do we want to start, and what should the schedule be? He was disturbingly prolific.

Since I feel like this is the thread to post these kinds of things since the Dead Souls thread is more general, this whole performance is legendary and Prince's solo is just God-level stuff:
I'll just go ahead and get one of his most popular and bad ass performances out of the way right now. EPIC guitar solo. AND WHERE DOES THE GUITAR GO AT THE END???
R.I.P. to one of the few musicians more diverse and talented than Trent. A true legend of music. Damn shame to lose him so young. And damn glad I took my mom and finally saw him live a few years ago.

I'm in. I won't write reviews like I did with the Bowie thing as that was too much for me towards the end as I found myself breaking down in tears after finishing *.
For real, this motherfucker was too prolific. I think we should really figure out if we want to try and cover all album-length releases or just his main albums, and if we want to maybe condense some discussions into the same day or if we should do all of them a day at a time.
MTV actually stopped playing garbage to play Prince videos. It's pretty great. Watch if you can.
Well, now would be the time to decide.
His legendary Halftime show (if anyone can find a higher quality version of this, I'd love to have it):

And personally I'm very cool with doing a day straight through the main 39 but it'd be cool to maybe condense a bit so that we can fit in some of the more noteworthy side projects. But I'm up for whatever everyone else decides.

I'm in for whatever you decide. I missed on Bowie but I'm not missing this.
I just hope it's the last one we'll do in a very very very long time with someone who just died.

Can we make a schedule of what we should listen to? I'm not sure if I have all of his albums or some of the bootlegs. Besides, does anyone know if those Prince-Miles Davis bootlegs are around somewhere?
I don't think we could do it in 31 days if we do it like 29 Days of Bowie.
We'd have to do multiple albums in one day to make it work.
My list looks like this:
1. For You/Prince
2. Dirty Mind/Controversy
3. 1999
4. Purple Rain
5. Around The World In A Day/The Flesh
6. Parade
7. Sign O' The Times/Dream Factory
8. Lovesexy
9. Batman/Graffiti Bridge
10. Diamonds And Pearls
11. Love Symbol Album/Goldnigga
12. Come/The Black Album
13. The Gold Experience
14. Chaos And Disorder/Exodus
15. Emancipation
16. Crystal Ball/The Truth/Kamasutra
17. Newpower Soul/The Vault
18. Rave Un2/In2 The Joy Fantastic
19. The Rainbow Children
20. Xpectation/C-Note/N.E.W.S
21. The Chocolate Invasion/The Slaughterhouse
22. Musicology
23. 3121/Planet Earth
24. Lotusflow3r/MPLSound/Elixer
25. 20Ten/PLECTRUMELECTRUM
26. Art Official Age
27. HitnRun Phase One & Two
28. Single-Only Songs (B-Sides and songs like F.U.N.K., S.S.T/Brand New Orleans, Something In The Water 2013 etc)
28. The Time Albums
29. Purple Proteges (Sheila E., Tamar, Ingrid, Mayte, Madhouse, Chaka Khan, and any other song he wrote/produced for other artists)
30. Live Bootlegs: Small Club, Sign O' The Times Rehearsals, Aftershows, Soundboard recordings, Birthday Shows, First Avenue.. any favorite live bootleg you choose.
31. Studio Bootlegs(Unreleased Songs): Witness 4 The Prosecution, Moonbeam Levels, Empty Room (1985), We Can Funk (1982), etc.
But I still can't believe we're doing this. I'm devastated.
I can't listen to any of his songs now, especially songs like Sometimes It Snows In April. 2016 could be the worst year of my life.

Prince covering "Heroes" last week.
Two of my absolute faves in the world: Joni Mitchell and Prince (he dedicated this to cover to his dad)

Still cannot believe this is has happened. I was just talking to my girl a few months back about artists that I have never seen live that I would love to see and try to see, and Prince was ironically on that list .

The 1991 MTV VMA performance of "Gett Off" is NOW HERE IN ITS ENTIRETY. Lawd almighty.
That is so erotically 90's and it hurts in all the right places. Who the fuck else could pull off a banana-yellow Greek orgy on cable TV and get away with it, let alone make it work?
