    Best album opener/closer?

Opener: The Way Out Is Through (I consider both discs of The Fragile to be two separate albums)
    Closer: Hurt

edit for clarification: i don't really think of Fragile as 2 separate albums but like... i can listen to one disc on its own and not feel bad about it, ya dig?

    Forum version of clickbait?
    *Bites anyway.*

    Opener: Mr. Self Destruct
    Closer: Right Where It Belongs

Runners-up being the two from Hesitation Marks (if anyone's interpreting that as Eater Of Dreams > Somewhat Damaged, remember to get a sober person to drive you home).

Zero-Sum is the best closer, Somewhat Damaged is the best opener.

    SD and "Leaving Hope."

Was tough not to pick MSD though. Amazing opener on record and on tour.

Somewhat Damaged for opener (and come on, Fragile Right is not its own album, can I say 28 Ghosts IV?)
Zero-Sum for the closer, it's my #1 nin song so that's easy

Also I predict RWIB vs Home fights in this thread

Agreed. My favorite shows have all started/ended with these. A Nin show without Hurt is like Thanksgiving without pizza.

This ones too damn tough. Pinion/Wish! MSD!! SD!!! 999,999/1,000,000!!!! EoD/Copy of a!!!!

Then Hurt and RWIB and Zero Sum and Black Noise...

Hate to sound like an over-joyed fan boy but TR sure knows how to open and close most his albums and tours. The best at it IMHO.

For a show id say Pinion into MSD gave the the biggest goosebumps. 2006 tour version of the "subtle" SD opener before it kicks you in the gut was incredible as well.

This is just too hard for me to pick...openers is impossible. But the final 3 notes on the album version of 'hurt' still gives me the same feeling it did when i first heard it. So fucking brutal. Best final MOMENT of any album. And I love 'black noise' too. Too hard to choose. 'Demon seed' anyone?

Shocked at the lack of Demon Seed!

Prrrrrrobably Somewhat Damaged/Demon Seed for me. But it's tough. Second choices might be Mr. Self Destruct/Ringfinger.

The alpha - Head Like A Hole
The omega - While I'm Still Here/Black Noise

To date they bookend the entire nin catalogue, good enough for me.

Okay, well Somewhat Damaged wins just slightly over Head Like A Hole for the opener.

For the closer I'm having to pick While I'm Still Here, and I'm including Black Noise in that regardless of my refusal to accept The Fragile as two separate records, or Home as the final track on With Teeth. If you don't mind I'll also give shout outs to both Zero-Sum and Demon Seed for being damn fine closing tracks.

I'm now getting muddled on how Pinion or The Eater of Dreams or even Hyperpower! come into this. I mean, they're not like proper songs, right?

I like to think of "Home" as the track wedged between "Sunspots" and "The Line Begins to Blur," (ala vinyl pressing)--because I think this was the original idea for track organization before deciding to omit the song from CD pressings. So, for me at least, I have never considered "Home" an album closer...until this moment when I read your comment. But the feeling still remains, and With Teeth ends in no other way in my mind than with "Right Where It Belongs." And please take this as a corroborative statement towards your point; not a refutation.

    Opener: "Somewhat Damaged"
    Closer: "Ripe (With Decay)"

aw man, nothing tops Somewhat Damaged as opener. that tension, the buildup, the gradually growing despair... it has it all. 999,999+1,000,000 and ATLITW also deserve a honorable mention tho.

about closer... I think that it doesn't get any better than TLBTB+BYIT+RWIB trio from With Teeth.
