Loved their first two albums, and to a certain extent still like those. Think they've been shiite since Thearte of Pain though.

I used to love them. I would have seen their farewell tour, but it was too far away. I am in the minority, but I feel that their self-titled album is their best work. Overall, I think that they play second fiddle to GNR and VH, in terms of 80's rock.

Controversial but I love them. One of the first bands I've gotten into and I still enjoy them to this day. Generation Swine is my favorite album aside from Girls Girls Girls.

Usually,I'd try and convince you with a Corabi Crue video but I'll say that after Generation Swine is when they started losing me as far as full albums go. I can probably find a few tunes I enjoy from New Tattoo and SOLA but as far as full albums go with a lack of filler,for me that ended with Swine. I don't think even their biggest fans will argue with them hanging it up now. Vince is,well still Vince and he's never been amazing live but some of these newer clips are rough by even his low standards. Tommy hasn't been into playing with Crue for years and is most likely the happiest for it to be over. Nikki was never known as a virtuoso but he can write some solid pop-metal tunes. Mick gets a pass for having a terrible disease and still playing every night at his advanced age. Having said all that,they are still one of my five favorite bands and I'm gonna catch at least one farewell show this year.Originally Posted by Krazy

If if you label them as a hair band, they're probably one of the best. If one labels them a hard rock/metal band they fall short of their peers.

I bought The Dirt on Kindle a few weeks ago when it was on sale for 1.99. I remember stopping cold in it's tracks once Nikki Sixx said he hated Jeff Beck the last time years ago when I borrowed a library copy, but I've been on an e-book jag lately so I thought what the hell. I've never really warmed up to the music, but I've been hearing about how good the book was for so long so I gave it a chance. I skipped through some of it, but I have to say I liked what I did read.
I have complicated feelings towards the effect the knowledge of one's personal life can have on their work. I really don't want to turn this into that kind of thread, but I have to say that in hindsight and considering the whole Cosby mess, I can appreciate the fact that each of them owned up to their failings as best as they could in the book, and don't make much excuses for themselves in it. And at times there is some heinous shit that they do, which is even more amazing to me.
Oddly enough, I think this will make me look at the music a bit deeper, whenever it comes on the radio anyway. I've not been inspired to dig any deeper I'm sorry to say, as Vince Neil's voice is like nails on a chalkboard to me. I do think Nikki, Tommy and Mick were a pretty tight musical unit and each of them talented in their own ways on their instrument and Nikki with his songwriting. For me sometimes the band rots from the head down, but they are sort of an exception.

You know something. I had a weird-ass idea about a film version of The Dirt. After seeing The Wolf of Wall Street, I had ideas that what if Martin Scorsese directed a film adaptation of that book. Here's my casting for the Crue. Leonardo diCaprio as Nikki Sixx, Michael Fassbender as Tommy Lee, Ryan Gosling as Vince Neil, Joseph Gordon-Levitt as Mick Mars and as Ozzy Osbourne, Robert de Niro.

David Fincher was attached to it at one point. That would have been perfect considering the subjects of his previous work. I think someone else has control of it now, and they want to cast young unknowns for the band. Which makes sense, it's not the kind of story that necessarily needs star power.

If you like Generation Swine, check out Vince Neil's second album, Carved in Stone from 1995. Unlike his first album, he went for a modern sound. It kind of sounds like the rap-metal that was popular a few years later, but was still very melodic. It's not a classic, but a cool album, and sounds a little like Generation Swine. It was produced by the Dust Brothers.

Saw the farewell tour a few weeks ago, it was fucking awesome. Highly recommend going if you can. Vince didn't sound too bad either.

John Corabi is releasing a live album of the 1994 self-titled album, in its entirety. That was their best disc, imho.

Came in the mail today and it sounds awesome. Corabi sounds fantastic, his band is good, the songs are played pretty straightforward but it sounds raw, just as heavy and organic. I loved the 1994 disc (one of the most overlooked albums from the 90's) and am glad that that album and era are being remembered and celebrated by this release.

When a band says "farewell" is it ever really actually "farewell" ? They always come back. As long as the members are alive, they will always be back. Regardless of the band. Long as all members are still alive, they'll eventually come back. The band's that truly do farewell tours are the ones that don't announce it and they just vanish, like Bowie did. His 2004 tour was never announced as a "farewell tour" he just vanished after that for like 12 years. He came back with a couple comeback records, but he never did go back to the stage.

The only Motley album I ever gave a shit about was that reunion one they did in the 90s that sounded like watered-down NIN. Saw them on that tour and the police showed up three times to try and pull the plug because of rioting, pornography, obscenity and general chaos. That was a fun show. Everything that came after was just bad theater and this is no different..
"We're breaking up" or "We're never touring again" are just melodramatic ways to say you're taking a break for awhile. Nobody breaks up or stops playing anymore. Anyone who actually thought MC was done touring or performing is a fool. Even the Dark Lord himself couldn't stay away from recording or touring for four years. Within 5-7 years TOPS, any band that breaks up is back in action. My Chemical Romance and Motley Crue are just two of the latest..
The Smiths are the only exception to the rule, and you can thank Morrissey for that. Marr, Rourke and Jones would reunite in a heartbeat. Morrissey is the lone hold-out, and rightfully so. Don't blemish a beautiful, once in a lifetime thing with cash-grab reunions and double-speak. The Smiths' music is timeless because we'll never get more of it and we'll never see the four of them in the same room again for performance purposes..
