I like some ska, I love a lot of punk... I like some ska/punk.

Sublime, to me, just sounds like music that's asking the listener why they don't have a goofy/ironic expression on their face.

(rings hands in sadistic glee) :-)

Jinai, you're too uptight. Their songs are fun. No, WERE fun. The lead singer DIED, it's like saying "I really hate Elvis." Except he's dead.

Sublime is like a time capsule from 1996.

I fucking can't stand Sublime. I get so sick of hearing that shit in the radio and hearing it from hipsters wanting to be Jamaican or some bullshit.

Isn't ALL Ska or Reggae listened to by people wanting to be Jamaican?

I mean, really, I've been in a crowd of people and this comes on ...

    And suddenly everybody's Jamaican

    And that's Irie, man

I think this might be easier to explain if you spent a lot of time in Long Beach. They're like a religion or a cult there.

    Aren't they from that area?

That tends to happen when a band is from an area.

Cheap Trick is from Rockford, so they're worshipped in Rockford.

I'm sure we can provide hundreds of other examples.

I guess... maybe it's just that "nggggggg, caress me down, after she pulled out my mushroom tip I didn't know she had the GI Joe kung fu grip, blaaaaaHHHHHHHH" song, and it just makes every goofy dude in the area w/ frosted bleached spiky hair suddenly look like they're having the best time ever and start dancing like an asshole.

People from the Los Angeles area get it... it was everywhere when he died. Someone dying doesn’t make their music great.

Btw, not liking someone’s music doesn’t mean you’re uptight

    Puke.

    @thevoid99
There was a meme going around with him covering a Pearl Jam or Nirvana song or some shit, and it said "POST MALONE WILL SINGLE HANDEDLY SAVE GRUNGE MUSIC" and I wanted to burn down the internet. Yes, teenager (probably) who saw that video and made that meme: This dude performing an uninteresting acoustic cover during his show is gonna save music.

He's playing a show in KC on my birthday (May 5, cinco de mayo, I know, I'm over it) and people I know that are fans of his were like "whoa, that's so lucky!! Omg you have to go!!" I think I'd rather shoot myself in the foot.

Nah, I always call Jinsai uptight, but he used to run a karaoke night so he’s overly sensitive to what I consider harmless fun music.

    Jinsai, that’s hilarious!

I’ve been around a bunch of NIN fans dancing like assholes, too. Testosterone-fueled injuries for everyone.

But all those dumb dirty (but funny) Prince lyrics were like:

    I'll give you head
    till you're burning up
    Head till you get enough
Head till your love is red
Head love you till you're dead

I just figure it’s fun and not Dostoyevsky.

I’ll take Sublime over No Doubt any day.

    I fucking hate No Doubt.

Although, I understand the mass appeal of No Doubt.

    Begrudgingly.

    yeah but

that yodeling kid from walmart, aka lil hank williams, actually goes pretty fucking hard.
    maybe it's a southern thing.

but it's pretty fucking weird, and a sign of the times, that a meme is playing Coachella.

So did Mozart and Beethoven. They never did anything this stupid and be exploited like that.

Idk dude I didn't even see the original video. I just saw a video of the kid onstage singing and playing old rockabilly songs and thought it was kind of cute.

I doubt he knows he's being exploited or has any opinion of walmart. I'd blame his parents for that aspect of it.

LOL - I didn’t realize there was karaoke Journey history here. Nothing wrong with fun music. I’ve only ever participated in karaoke once and I sang Dancing in the Dark by Bruce Springsteen but that’s neither here nor there

I don't really like his music but he's a really nice, cool guy. So if I ever hear his music, I appreciate it at least a bit.

That kid's Ellen appearance made cringe SO hard. If he or the parents aren't careful, there's a chance he could burn out before he even has a chance to actually grow up into an adult. And it isn't even a fault of the kid - more just the times we live in. From a meme to Coachella to a full-blown record deal in barely a couple months? Oof. What he does takes talent, sure, but...man, that kid isn't gonna be able to live a normal life now, no matter how you slice it.

Lets be honest, too - how much of the appreciation/fame for his music is genuine rather than ironic? Does anyone actually think "ah dude if the Walmart yodeling kid plays at the Sprint Center or whatever, I'm SO there?"

Edit: I've seen a couple videos now of other people going into public places (stores mainly) and singing loudly and obnoxiously in the same vein. For fuck's sake, if this starts to be a trend and I have to grocery shop and hear people SINGING and making videos in the aisles, I'm gonna lose it.

Yeah these things crossed my mind too. There's a good chance that once this kid hits puberty, he might wind up not being very good.
And people probably won't give a shit about him unless it's some kind of "where are they now" type of shit.
    Right now, you're 100% right. He's a novelty act.

Also, I totally agree about the "meme to Coachella" thing. It speaks of a bizarre future. I could just imagine " WITH APPEARANCES by: ANGRY HOMELESS LADY! FLOP CAT! 'what do you mean, bro?' KID! And BEER FART GUY"

I honestly hope the kid beats the odds. If he doesn't, wal mart should be required to pay for all his shit.

Also, maybe we should meet up in Oklahoma and see if we can become "Carl's Jr March of The Pigs Guys! " hahahaha

I guess I now have to google "Walmart yodeling kid" and find out why I should hate Coachella more than I already have come to. Fuck.

    Well, that was fucking annoying.

Ed Sheeran makes the kind of "music" that makes people hate acoustic guitars.

I know. And he and Adam Levine make me hate tattoos even more. What's the point of having all of these tattoos if you're going to sing lame-ass whiny songs to a bunch of idiots just to look tough?

His parents should look at what happened to Jake Lloyd.
