We got the standard Fuji set list. SG started 20 minutes late and played a shorter set list. NIN played for the usual 1.5 hours. I'm glad that I had seats in the center at the previous show that I attended. The visuals lose some of their impact when viewed from the side.

Here's hoping for the other set list at the Hollywood Bowl.

Cold Cave: I didn't even bother. I purposely came late because of them.

Soundgarden: Just as I said in the Vegas review, tight band and great doom guitar tones.

NIN: Standard set but hey I'm glad Piggy was swapped for Reptile tonight. Both me and @FULLMETAL are disappointed when the drum set was moved off to the stage after being placed in the center and getting our hopes up.

even though didn't leave santa monica until 620, i walked in during soundgarden's opening song.

they are sorely missing matt cameron this tour. i mean matt chamberlain wasn't terrible by any stretch of the imagination but the drum parts on songs like "jesus christ pose" paled in comparison to the times i've seen them in past. interestingly matt fared best on the final (oldest) song "beyond the wheel" IMO. ben also had some issues with his bass rig or something because it seemed to cut in and out every now and again from my vantage in loge 6. chris' voice was intermittently stellar; maybe the tour has wore it down a bit. that said it was a good setlist for them - trifecta from superunknown in the middle - and i'm pretty sure they played "full" 75 minute set even though they started 15-20 minutes late.

anyway, onto the main event. the stripped down lineup did take some getting used to especially after the big band from last fall. speaking of the tension tour, there were 5 (!) different songs from the staples show i caught - reptile, closer, great destroyer, eraser and only. each was a highlight for various reasons. one note on "only" is that ilan seemed to have bass problems of his own during the beginning but the crowd around me was really getting into this one which made up for the temporary sonic shortcoming.

for a 90 minute set they floored me. i'm glad i opted out of trudging up to the lawn and weaseled my way into loge because there were plenty of empty seats and the sound/view was fantastic. although i couldn't hear ilan's cymbals well enough to my liking but that's pretty minor overall.

the patterns during disappointed and glitch overload of great destroyer were visually worth mentioning. excellent presentation, pacing, energy. everything we expect from NIN - can't wait for their return to the Bowl on monday!

man it's tough getting setlists after the show. vultures, everywhere.

anyway, those seats I got today ended up pretty good. Dead center, right behind soundboard. Also behind OC douchebags. Damn, Las Vegas aint got shit on OC in terms of doucheness.

Totally different experience dead center - the symmetry is awesome, stage setup and lights, awesome. A step down from Tension/LITS though imo, but still better than anything else out there. ohh yeah, Ilan on bass is fucking awesome.

Not so much disappointment, but my expectations deflated once they brought out TR's synth console before COA started.

From last night's show, they added "Reptile" in place of "Piggy" & "Terrible Lie" and added "Only" back before THTF. I would have preferred TDTWWA as I missed out on that one during my run for this leg. Otherwise, this was a pretty good performance even though I was off to the side.

I had a decent view for the TGD visuals, but a random security chick decides to ask me if I'm recording. That was annoying, especially since I was so far from the stage and she fucking appeared out of nowhere.

Anyhow, this wasn't the ideal show for me to go out on but I'm happy with the wonderful experiences from both Red Rocks shows and last night's gig at Chula Vista. I'll still probably check Ticketmaster for a last minute, normal priced Pool Circle ticket for the Bowl, but I'm resigned to the fact I won't see NIN live again for a long time.

Arrived at the venue really early, and same with last night in Chula Vista, wound up with free parking because the lot was wide open and no attendants in sight. Kristin was managing the pre-sale line again, and she always does a great job making the process smooth for people with pre-sale. No hassles with getting in, killed time and made new friends before the show. Walked down to the pit and was in row 3, dead center, with short people in front of me. Soundgarden was great again tonight, and I was really stoked to get "Gun" in the set after having "Flower" last night. 'Fuji' set, as was mentioned above. Something about tonight just felt better than Chula Vista. Perhaps it was due to being center as opposed to the angled position I was at last night, but I got into the show more tonight. Was happy to see "Reptile" again, always a welcome addition, but still holding out hope for TDTWWA in the next few nights.

After the show, Damian, the guy in charge of Trent's equipment (and he does a damn good job of it, especially with the ever-changing stage for this tour), personally handed me three guitar picks, a white, a red, and a black variant. They will go nicely with the pre-sale tickets and the autographed poster I scored last night when I frame it all. Huge shout-out to him for going out of his way and making this fan's night.

    You're talking about me right?

I apologize if anyone saw my fat ass while I was jumping up and down during both sets. I didn't realize my dress was that short.

I thought that the first half of Soundgarden's set was a bit sluggish. However, I think they redeemed themselves by the time they played Blow Up The Outside World. It was good to see Matt Chamberlain again as I have seen him drum for Tori.

NIN was on top of their game. Glad to see Reptile on the set. I think that was the highlight for me. I think it was a NIN kind of crowd as the crowd went nuts for the entire set.

    Alternative Nation's concert review.

Did anyone else have the tacos in the lawn and get sick??? I was in hell the next morning. I initially thought I was a lightweight for being so hungover on TWO beers.... but the other people in my group also got sick and they didn't drink.

Also, what's with the DUI checkpoint???? They CLOSED the 405 which led everyone to take the 605. Then they blocked off streets and forced you to pass a checkpoint. Hope everyone made it home okay.

they're doing a huge amount of construction at 405/22 interchange so when I saw the sign in Irvine that freeway was closed 10-15 miles north I took 55 to 5 back to LA.

as for the dui checkpoint, that's a brilliant revenue scheme/stream for whatever town nabs the drunk drivers (or CHP) but a slow PITA for anyone thinking they'd easily detour around freeway closure. glad I took alternate route that night...and stopped drinking earlier this year (for now, hopefully longer)

Hmmmm non of this happened to me when I left. Heck it only took me 5 minutes to get out of the venue and onto the 5.

Where do you park to escape the hell hole that is the Irvine parking lot? Obviously not the back, where the morons bring 4 lanes of traffic down to one lane for exiting. I always take the 5 back (though there was some construction on it).

Thanks! I'm an idiot. I usually stop there first because I try to get to Irvine early. I hate driving in stop and go traffic. I'd never considered leaving my car there.

I used to work at the spectrum and it's pretty common. It's like a 20-30 minute walk, which is waaaaaaaaaay better than dealing with the parking lot at Verizon. As a bonus you can post-party at the spectrum (if you like post partying with OC douchebags)

Definitely not the back, I parked on section 5. Which is about 5 aisles up from the road out. I got lucky and saw an open spot. When the show ended I went to my car, crisscross the sections and cut some dude on the exit to bypass the line and I was out of there.

And note I came into the venue around 7-ish so this was total luck.

Yep. I can handle the 20-30 minute walk, especially if it means my chance to exit the parking lot doesn't depend upon my ability to cut people off... I mean merge. I'm of the opinion "anywhere but Irvine" if a group is playing more than one show in the LA area, but I came to Irvine because I first saw NIN here, so I have some nostalgia.

I just turn right onto Irvine Spectrum, right again on Bake Parkway, then right on Lake Forest, and onto the 133 North to either the 405 or 5. Never had issues with traffic getting onto the freeway.

Same here. It took me 5 minutes to get to Irvine Spectrum from the parking lot as I thought I was gonna meet up with friends there (it didn't happen though). It did, however, took me longer than I had anticipated to get home; around 2 hours. There was traffic in Corona around 1 AM.
